  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Jalapeno shakes don't have the same ring, now do they? Does McDs, BK, and the rest offer jalapenos? Everywhere down here you can get them.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) American and United definitely both do that. I know because I had status with both, when I was travelling almost every week at my last job. Is that new? I always had gold status with Continental and I do not remember that. The last time I flew weekly was around 2002.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) Yeah, I am sure there is no reason why the Dem thread is a couple of thousand posts longer than the Rep thread... Outside of yourself, most of the top posters are the same in both threads. Hell, I have more posts in the GOP thread than the Dem. Kap has more in the Dem than the GOP. Its a mixed up muddled up shook up world
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 07:32 AM) And until about 2001, I voted for far more Republicans for office than Democrats. It wasn't until the GOP decided to abandon financial restraint and the protection of individual freedoms - once the cornerstones of that party - that I was forced to vote more often for Dems. Its not because I liek the Dems, its because they are currently the lesser evil. I'll also add in trying to remove any checks and balances from their power by attacking the courts and the press.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 07:41 AM) Ah ok. But I still haven't heard any reasons why their system is better for a frequent business traveler. As I mentioned, for short notice travel, I wasn't stuck with a center seat. I wasn't aware of an airline that held back seats like you mentioned. That is a better system no doubt. But the carriers that I routinely traveled, Continental and American, do not do that. SW attendants are the best of any airline I've flown. SW's safety record is the best in the industry.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) In theory, yes. But those seats always seem to be taken by people choosing to pay a few extra bucks at check-in for the better seats or standby passengers for other flights. But then the seats they switched from would be empty. Continental and American will sell out their flights as soon as possible, never holding any seats back. That's kind of cool of Delta.
  7. Traveling team, league championship game, one out, bases loaded, me a .275 hitter. I was too slow to move out of the way of an inside pitch and got plunked. Umpire rules I moved into the pitch (I did), does not award me the base. I didn't even know that was a rule. Two pitches later I crush one that drops in just over the shortstop's head.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) I think they keep economy plus seats open on United for those with status. They also allow those checking in on the day of the flight to upgrade to any available economy plus seating. Interesting, so if no one checks in, they would have empty seats?
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) That is simply not true. Sometimes they do not want to allocate the money in their budget for a college graduate, so they simply do not respond to college graduates who apply.. I was thinking about this, they also would not respond to the high school diploma with 10 years experience, who would ask for more money.
  10. Funny how many people that have said f*** Boras, the Sox should never sign a Bopras client, aren't so worried now.
  11. Not matter where Damon lands, I LOL with Boras and how well he does his job for his clients.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) Shamrock Shake time at MCD's I hope they bring them down here, sometimes we pass on those promotions.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) I have status with United. I rarely have trouble getting economy plus seating even if I'm booking within 2 weeks of the flight. Which seat are you trying to get? Does United hold back some seats for Economy Plus flyers? I was always on either Continental or American if I wasn't on SW. Every seat on their planes are up for grabs, first come first served, and up front aisle seats fill pretty quick, followed by the windows.
  14. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:03 PM) or maybe parents didn't put up with their crap. And that is certainly the correct treatment in many cases, probably the majority. But, much like we use to lock up people who needed mental health treatment, or even call them possessed and killed them, some individuals are suffering from a condition that cannot be controlled by behavior modification or parents getting strict. For those cases, medication can help them to be more successful in life. I agree it has been overdiagnosed, and many kids wound up on meds that should not have. but there are still cases, IMHO, where it is the appropriate path. But to say that about everyone is like telling someone with depression to suck it up and just be happy.
  15. All of those are excellent ideas that should be explored before meds.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:00 PM) Thanks for the input, Tex. Sounds like he took a look at some surveys that both parents filled out as well as some teachers. But to make the decision without his mother present seems incredibly strange to me... I think it really is a very individual and personal decision, so I agree that multiple opinions would be a good thing. Who is the boy living with? I would think the parent who lives with him the most should have a lot of input.
  17. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) question then, how on earth did kids ever grow up BEFORE this era of "drugs can fix all your problems"? They dropped out of school. Moved from job to job when companies got tired of their inability to focus.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) That's part of the problem for me. Why do I want to waste an extra 2 hours of my life at an airport if I don't have to? With United I can show up just as they're boarding and still get a great seat that I selected 2 weeks earlier. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather have a little extra time to spend at home with my wife and dogs then to stand around at an airport terminal. You must be flying some unpopular routes if only two weeks out gets you a great seat. That was never my experience. Two weeks out and all the aisle seats from the wings forward are gone. And an hour or at most 75 minutes was enough for me to get a low enough number to get the seat I liked. The only time it doesn't work is when you are connecting and have a quick connection to make. That sucks when you are on SW.
  19. I have seen some kids make incredible improvements when they are placed on a proper drug regimine. I am also certain the drugs have been over prescribed, and of course not every kid is a candidate. I would certainly want a second or third opinion before entering the treatment. I'm not certain how someone can just look at all kids and say none should be treated. Not every kid who is hyper can control it, no matter how much you punish them. For those kids, properly diagnosed and properly treated, a treatment regime is literally a life saver. At least for my students, the Doctors follow up almost monthly with a questionaire asking about the student's behavior, attention, school work, etc. They seem to be closely monitored with the goal of using the lowest dosage possible, including zero.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) LOL OK pal. When you have to fly, sometimes 10-12 times per month, you start to enjoy perks like: - getting to select the exact seat you want when booking travel - getting extra leg room in business class or economy plus sections - getting free upgrades for traveling so much - being able to show up right before boarding and not worry about having to sit in the last row next to the bathroom When you spend tens of thousands of dollars on travel and live out of a suitcase then yeah, I want a little better treatment. How far out were you booking to select the exact seat you want? I never had more than a week or two and aisle seats filled up quickly. The seats on SW gave about the same leg room as other carriers. The free upgrades are nice, I actually prefered the free tickets so I could take family and friends on some trips. I have had to sit in the last row on an American flight from Houston, because I was flying last minute. It actually worked out cool, no one was next to me and I could stretch out and take a nap :-)

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 08:18 AM) It's obvious a lot of you are not business travelers. I was for years, and had just as many bad seats on other carriers because I had to book at the last minute. With Southwest I knew if I arrived early enough, I'd get the seat I liked. I always thought that gave the edge to the frequent flyer over the once a year vacation flyer who books six months out and grabs the really good seats. Even though I qualified for Admirals Club every year I rarely used it, I prefered hanging around the crowds.

And Rex is so right. Having someone ooze into your seat just sucks. I travelled a few times with a coworker that as soon as the safety talk was done would request the seat belt extender that the fligth attendants hold up to demo how to buckle and unbuckle. I would always pray we had adjoining aisle seats.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) When you become a frequent traveler your views will change immensely. For a few years I was on a flight every Tuesday and back home on Friday. I also flew Southwest a ton of times and liked the experience. They had the only window seat I liked. (I am always an aisle guy). The first foreward facing row offered a ledge against the side where I could prop up my foot. Because the first row faced backwards, it filled up last and many times no one sat across from me. I appreciated their flight attendants and staff. I would say overall they were my favorite with Continental a close second.
  24. rex, congrats, you did get some traction for this at least among soxtalk. You are a damn fine political operative.
