Capitalism: A Love Story
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 08:21 AM) Forget it, he's rolling... And I should have added, the Dems would do the same thing. I don't like propaganda, and my impression of Moore's films are at about the same level as 1950s era Cold War propaganda films. So I will stay away.

Treasure or Trash?
A couple laughs, a couple sighs. It's tough to screw up too much with one liners. The fan in me circa 1980 would look at this line up and think about 2010. The K-Dubya era fan in me thinks, why bother? There's going to be some major changes in a third place team.

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) I don't think he meant ALL agree, I think he meant the people in here who can think for themselves. And again, I will say it isn't going to happen. Partisan opinions will start flying. And I agree this was as much about Bush as it was about Obama.

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) Hopefully we can all just agree that it was completely unexpected and premature. Not going to happen. Hordes of REPs are figuring out how to mitigate the "damage" and use it to make him look bad. Meanwhile hordes of DEM strategists are figuring out how to maximize the award to their advantage.

Capitalism: A Love Story
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) if he does it, puts it in his movie and writes it off as a business expense, what else can it be? Like I said, the GOP is awesome at this. If he donates anonymously, Kap and SS can slam him for being a hypocrite. If he lets people know, Alpha can slam him for using it as a publicity stunt. Awesome No matter what the poor bastard did, he was wrong

Of course as Americans we must trash this as much as possible. I can't wait for the right wing attacks.

Decades old war monument in peril
Then if we agree that each religions or countries symbols could be insults to another person's religion or nationality, does that mean we should ban all symbols, or learn a little tolerance and allow them?

Capitalism: A Love Story
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:47 PM) Yeah, he 'anonymously' paid off the bills, and then put that fact into the movie. No publicitystunt there. The site is called Moorewatch.com. Here is a link to the post omn that site detailing some of the history around that donation. http://www.moorewatch.com/index.php/weblog...ecord_straight/ So let's see, if he doesn't tell anyone, we hear from Kap and SS he doesn't practice what he preaches, if he does, it is a publicity stunt. I have to hand it to the GOP, they sure know how to discredit someone. Brilliant strategy.

Decades old war monument in peril
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Eh let it stay. Scalia is an idiot, but it wouldnt be the first time he was completely ridiculous. I would say that a cross would be one of the most insulting symbols to put up to honor a Jewish person. Really? I would think any Muslim symbol would trump it. After all Jews and Christians share the Old Testament. I would believe, if you are going to make a mistake, a cross would be the least offensive of the world's religions. And it is even an easier choice in reverse. A Star of David would be perfectly fine for any Christian, it reflects our common history.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) Definitely Old Town. It was full of shops and neat little arts and craft type places. And you had the Earl of Old Town, Somebody Else's Troubles, the Quiet Knight, the Old Town School of Folk Music. It was a pretty cool area. Thank you, I was half listening to a show and they referenced Haight and it started me to thinking . . . The names started to become familiar from stories, especially Piper's Alley.

Of course you make perfect sense. I was thinking more in the abstract. How about this example Is this a symbol of God's covenant and should be taken down or is a Gay Pride symbol and left up? Who should decide? There are an awful lot of non believers that have crosses on their tombstones.

Gun Toting Soccer Mom shot by husband
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) You need way more deatils than were available at either of those links. Did husband shoot her with her own gun or his own gun? If it was his own, it would seem that in this case, having one didnt help. Althogh not having one wouldnt have helped either, so it would be a lose/lose situation all around. I don't see how her having the gun increased the probability at all, if the hubby had his own and was intent on killing her anyway. Did another story come out saying she was shot with her own gun? Your post seems to imply that. I've seen many stats that suggest having a gun in your home leads to increased gun incidents compared to not having a gun in your home. Which is about as obvious as having a car increases the likelihood of having a car accident.
