  1. Interesting how the game and society has changed. There were all sorts of stories of Babe Ruth running out between innings to grab a beer, showing up right from the bar he was in the night before, etc.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 08:06 AM) 20,000, b****es. I'm actually pretty certain I shouldn't be proud of that. Just don't put it on your resume . . .
  3. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) Chinese press alleges an all female lesbian city in Sweden. Hmm, I would have thought some of our male posters would have found that link first
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) Baseball is designed to entertain. Trying to be objective as possible, the game tonight was just more entertaining. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 07:49 AM) "As a baseball fan" its last night's game, no doubt. I think people here are unable to separate the Sox fan from the baseball fan. Obviously, as a Sox fan, I preferred last year. what they said. But having said that, this really is more a situation of would you prefer a world class Cabernet or Chardonnay.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 08:24 AM) Unless he wins the big one, the rest of his career. And deserving so. I think it would be more fair to focus on his 0 fer the weekend than the off field stuff. I'd be very surprised if he is in a Tiger uni next season. And they will have to trade him for a deep discount.
  6. Zzzzzz the Tigers season.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) Heh. That was my 20,000th post. Glad to see I haven't lost my edge.
  8. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 10:58 PM) I was responding specifically to Tex suggesting that he was essentially incapable of taking offense at the site of a symbol. Come on Jim, you know I can work up some righteous indignation and take offense to anything And I thought your point was excellent, and SS reply to be even more so.

    isn't this something your dad should have explained?
  10. Unbelievable game today
  11. She was such a huge part of the South Side Hitmen summer. http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/news/art...mp;ymd=20090128
  12. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) Prognostication or just wishful thought? Quiet wish. Philly looks tough
  13. Overall I'd like to see the Dodgers beat the Yankees in the WS
  14. Minny proves again they know how to win
  15. Knack for getting the K
  16. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 12:00 PM) That is a separate discussion — which symbols offend which groups. Jumping immediately to the extreme example: Could you walk past a swastika and remain unoffended? If not, is it because of the history of inhuman brutality represented by that symbol? By extension, could you not understand if the descendants of those many ethnic and religious groups who suffered centuries of subjugation at the hands of Christians didn't get all warm and fuzzy on viewing the most sacred symbol of their historic oppressors? Great point. However, looking over the tens of thousands of Churches in America, In God We Trust on our currency, etc. etc. I find it hard to imagine this one cross tilting the scale.
  17. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) The kicker, though, is that this was built without the ok from the previous owner. So what, exactly, makes it historically significant? Just because of the length of time it's been there? The way I read the article, it was placed there without government designation as a monument. It is unclear who the owner was during the time the monument was erected and 1994 when it transferred to the NPS. I took that to mean that if he had sought government "permission" it would have been designated a monument back then and there would not be an issue today.
  18. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Damn, i'm not sure if i like us picking up thornton's option. He wasn't even on the 2005 team. and fixed.
  19. Kooks are abundant here. And btw, life sucks today.
  20. QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 6, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) LOL about Probert. That brings back some memories. I never heard it confirmed, but I swear I read somewhere that when Probert was asked how he could stand with a BAC of .35 he said it must have been all the coke.
  21. While it probably was not intended, the irreverent comment does lead to something. If you do not believe, than this simply is two sticks forming something akin to a trail marker. Presumably, if you are a believer, it means something more. Can't both people simply look upon this for what they believe and allow the other to exist? I walk path various symbols of other religions, civil groups, societies, etc and do not feel offended or threatened.
  22. QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) The problem is that Cabrera isn't a "boy." He's a 26-year-old man with a wife and a kid at home. I'm sure that I was at 0.2 once or twice back in my mid-20's, but I wasn't married with a kid, nor did I get into a physical altercation with a woman and end up in the slammer. Cabrera needs to grow the f up. exactly. Detroit should start the Bob Probert DUI Hall of Fame. I doubt anyone will top his .35
  23. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,225671.column Sad day.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) http://news.aol.com/article/herman-thomas-...sex-with/702052 When people abuse their power, we all lose. What a shame.
