  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) I couldn't believe that the ST people rejected the new terms to keep it open. A pay cut is better than no job at all IMO. Has anyone seen any data on what the turn over rate is when companies have these cuts?
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) Its not a good sign for the long term viability of manufacturing. I agree there. But as you and I have discussed before, the way to cut into this is to get onto the leading edge on some things, not trying to protect aging industry in state. I am weeks late coming into this but manufacturing is near and dear to me. In the "good old days" the jobs in manufacturing were well paying, middle class occupations. Now we expect those jobs to provide about the same standard of living as enjoyed by those workers around the globe in developing economies. I fear it just will not be worth saving manufacturing jobs when they will pay barely minimum wage.
  3. I really cannot believe it is October and this thread is still alive.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) I feel for you guys who weren't around at Old Comiskey when parking and ticket prices were cheap. Steinbrenner ruined it for all fans. Used to be baseball was really affordable before he decided to try to sign all good players (and some mediocre ones) at whatever the cost. Other teams point to the White Sox as villians. Believe ity or not, at one time the highest paid baseball player was on the roster and he had a clause where he would remain one of the three highest paid players. Crazy but true.
  5. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) i was watching the game. it was a stupid move to give him an ovation from the screaming crowd of 50 who were there for a day game against the dodgers. I had to go back and read this again. well played
  6. Not too subtle. There will be blood
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) You all can't stand the fact that the town halls, etc. and the MAJORITY OF AMERICANS DO NOT WANT THIS s***. Kap, everyone knows what occurred in those town hall meetings was more a reflection on which side was the best organized and funded to have their people there. Demonstration are never a great way to judge popularity, especially when many people attended to fight shadows because of the gross amount of misinformation that has been spewed. They don't want death panels! They don't want socialism! They don't want what the GOP radio network has told them.

    Teaching Abroad

Isn't teaching abroad the same as teaching aguy?
  9. Maybe someone needs to sing the alphabet song?
  10. Jim, that is a fine documentary.
  11. Hello again, I've been away for a while. FYI, education systems suck.
  12. Different seasons, same results
  13. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) The more I think about it, the more I believe Ozzie's little outburst was simply him venting after a bad game at the end of a disappointing season. I don't think the fact that there were TVs on and people watching football had much to do with anything. If it wasn't this, he would have found something else to blow up about. ding ding ding! Great point.
  14. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) but I think I would be so pissed about going from 5-0 up to lose 12-5 that I'd say something to the effect of, "I don't want to hear that football "stuff,"" and turn it off myself. I agree with almost your entire post and I agree with others that believe the players on the field owe it to the fans to play hard the entire game. I disagree that a player has to be pissed for very long after the game. It is a long, 162 game season, and even in the best of times, there will be 70 loses. Imagine coming home pissed from work 125 days out of the year? (I'm comparing 50 weeks of work to a baseball season). That is probably not how to remain confident and focused for a season or a career.
  15. better cancel da evening, family going home instead.
  16. And my opinion could really change based on who was involved. Perhaps someone like AJ should set a better example, but yo question his competitiveness would be crazy.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) Obviously you paid no money to watch last night's game. The people who did deserve a better effort, and if you are so unmoved by getting embarrassed that you can't wait to watch a college football game, I hope they find the door for you. This is a player's job. I don't know who was watching games and Konerko's quote that the TVs were already on, indicate to me that the players actually had them on during last night's game as many are in the clubhouse during the game. Perhaps its being blown out of proportion a little bit, but Ozzie has every right to be pissed off. I prefer guys that hate to lose myself, not guys who say, well we can't win so who cares. I hope incidents like this help management weed out the riff raff. You make a lot of great points. But I will stand by my thought that I would rather have a guy that plays 100% when there is something to play for then drops to 50% after the team is eliminated, than some guy that plays 80% all the time. And of course we all want guys that play 100% all the time, but I really do not believe there are that many guys like that. Plus, who knows maybe a few guys in management have bets on the Twin winning the division.
  18. In no particular order . . . There was strong support around here for the team to shut down almost every player with any value to avoid injury, see what the youngsters can do, etc. While it may be a nice indicator of the competitiveness of the players, some of these guys we already know how competitive they are, especially when there is something to really compete for. So to label, for example, PK or AJ as quitters is an awful stretch. I prefer a player who is competitive when there is something to actually win, then lays down, over a player who is the same half ass all the time. Young players better be all out all the time. Games are won on the field.

    Lyrics and Meaning

My father married a pure Cherokee My mother's people were ashamed of me The indians said I was white by law The White Man always called me "Indian Squaw"
  20. Zoolander was only funny in spots.
  21. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) f***ing ridiculous. People who use aesthetics as a reason for not wanting wind turbines are just f***ing selfish. If these could be built, it would do wonders for the environment and is renewable, but you want a good view over lake michigan. ridiculous. What are lake shore Condos selling for? If you owned an asset worth $750,000 that would drop to $600,000, how happy would you be? It may be selfish, but people don't want their property values to decline. There are some real hardships in owning real estate that is declining in value.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 26, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) This I almost replied with that same joke. OMG, I might start repeating myself like the old guys around here, BigEd and FlaSoxxJim.
