According to Sun Times Kotsay wants to be back
A player would be an idiot to say they would *not* want to play somewhere. I usually ignore all this talk.

Mauer pitch tipping
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) I think it'd be dangerous to do it this series, as even putting anyone on base is a threat that can keep the Twins alive. Maybe at this point, you are happy with just sending the Twins home for the playoffs; maybe you get them next April (or May, whenever they end up playing each other). I don't think you do anything about it today. Perhaps. I see a couple September call ups starting something with Twin regulars, which would be an awesome burn.

The Democrat Thread
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 08:28 PM) Or spend the rest of their life in the Federal Pen at Marion enduring a living hell. The innocent people who get executed at least get put out of their misery. I have never thought of that. An innocent person convicted is a nightmare no matter the punishment. But I still oppose the death penalty

Just the strangest story I've read in a whlie...
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) I still want to know how the hell this little town in Montana managed to set up a prison and do business with a private CI/LE/CT whatever agency, without having to go through the state government for licensure. That can't be legal. The explanation I could come up with is all they did was lease them the facility. Cities lease out facilities all the time. The prison/jail was financed through bonds. I wonder if they thought they could land a State or Federal contract once they has the facility in place.

Financial News
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) It is a lot less than if they shutdown. no doubt. I was just curious how companies do after they go through something like this. I could see this just slowing down the inevitable. The better skilled employees bail to maintain their income, those that are left are bitter, replacement workers are not at the same caliber as those that left and are "poisoned" by the bitter employees who remained. Or Restructured and streamlined company returns to profitability. Those left behind realize how important it is to work hard to maintain profits. Company is a success once more.

Just the strangest story I've read in a whlie...
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) all of them are misguided. edit: we already have terrorists in US prison...see original WTC bombings. And I agree. We have terrorists who committed their crimes on US soil. The sticky part comes in the definition of soldiers and what jurisdiction they fall under. There are compelling arguments for both. Defining an Army just isn't as easy as it once was.

Anti-terrorism seems to be one of the few true growth industries. And a shining example of privatizing and outsourcing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 08:30 AM) I couldn't believe that the ST people rejected the new terms to keep it open. A pay cut is better than no job at all IMO. Has anyone seen any data on what the turn over rate is when companies have these cuts?

Financial News
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) Its not a good sign for the long term viability of manufacturing. I agree there. But as you and I have discussed before, the way to cut into this is to get onto the leading edge on some things, not trying to protect aging industry in state. I am weeks late coming into this but manufacturing is near and dear to me. In the "good old days" the jobs in manufacturing were well paying, middle class occupations. Now we expect those jobs to provide about the same standard of living as enjoyed by those workers around the globe in developing economies. I fear it just will not be worth saving manufacturing jobs when they will pay barely minimum wage.

White Sox Parking- Is my math correct?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) I feel for you guys who weren't around at Old Comiskey when parking and ticket prices were cheap. Steinbrenner ruined it for all fans. Used to be baseball was really affordable before he decided to try to sign all good players (and some mediocre ones) at whatever the cost. Other teams point to the White Sox as villians. Believe ity or not, at one time the highest paid baseball player was on the roster and he had a clause where he would remain one of the three highest paid players. Crazy but true.

Healthcare reform
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) You all can't stand the fact that the town halls, etc. and the MAJORITY OF AMERICANS DO NOT WANT THIS s***. Kap, everyone knows what occurred in those town hall meetings was more a reflection on which side was the best organized and funded to have their people there. Demonstration are never a great way to judge popularity, especially when many people attended to fight shadows because of the gross amount of misinformation that has been spewed. They don't want death panels! They don't want socialism! They don't want what the GOP radio network has told them.
