  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) I voted Tigers. I have to much hate for the Twins. Besides the Tigers have Magglio. O-E-O!! As for rooting for the NL, I can never bring myself to do that, though I too would like to see Thome get a ring. Agreed. There are only a few matchups where I would cheer for the NL.
  2. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) Agreed. I'd like to see Thome get a ring. I usually cheer for the AL in the World Series, but there are a couple teams where I would change, Seeing Thome get a ring would be tops, other years situations like St. Louis with Tony, Houston, maybe Pittsburg.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 09:01 AM) SS, that is an awesome post so many layers, so many ways to interpret
  4. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) Some sort of solar roofing shingle material is the first logical step to me. Definitely before roadways, I meant first step for solar roadways. I see a home application before US 94 or 35th St.
  5. For the integrity of the game, every team should play their best in these games. Anything less is a road towards professional wrestling. Having said this, Go Tigers! It has been a storied franchise, Detroit as a city could use something good happening, and I'm so burned out by Minny. And going into the playoffs, I will cheer for the AL Central team until they are eliminated. Overall, go Dodgers!
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) http://www.americainfra.com/news/solar-roadways/ I thought this was, while most completely impossible (price tag not withstanding), a really neat idea. Prices always fall with technology, unless that is already factored in. That is an awesome idea. But I am thinking about all the other factors that a roadway has to have. Safety, wet weather traction, snow removal, etc etc etc. Just amazing if it would work. Home models would seem like the first application.
  7. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) KW should realize the team he put together wasnt THAT talented. It was his mistake to rely on aging sluggers. Thome did pretty much what you'd expect, Konerko had a bounce back year, Dye had an extremely long dreadful stretch when you'd least want it. And you can throw a little blame on Ozzie for not moving AJP up in the order earlier. But really it's on KW. If you built for 2010 with your trades, say so. Dont hide behind saying the guys underachieved just to cover your own ass. What is that supposed to accomplish? You are correct about K-Dubya, but I'd have to add, there is plenty of blame to go around. No one is guilt free, no one had a career year, from the ownership group to .
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) The season is over now. Its a little different. Yeah, you are right, but the organization has been quitting for a couple weeks. That was my point.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) I understand that. But to bastardize it and have the government take over damn near everything under the sun is not what the founders had in mind for our country. So true. The founders may not have had in mind a lot of things. I'm not certain how well they imagines the US circa 2009. So the challenge becomes determining what we should continue to follow and what we should change. What seems obvious to us today, like women voting, was not obvious to them, or obvious to Americans when the changes were happening. If your point is we then should be very damn careful what we change, and only change, if at all, after a thorough debate, than I agree 100%.
  10. Let's see, The club is talking about shutting down a few players, but K-Dubya says don't quit. I see Thome out west, but K-Dubya says don't quit.
  11. I was just thinking about WalMart's role in this. It is probably the best policy for WalMart to always turn these over when they see genitalia. Imagine if they had not and later abuse was discovered? They would have been toasted, roasted, and burned at the stake for that.
  12. Really feeling, imprisoned by the way it used to be Left here on my own or so it seems I got to leave before I start to scream But someone's locked the door and took the key
  13. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Yea, because the Democrats have power, she has no purpose anymore. Exactly. And in the everyone does it, Republicans are looking for their version As for his films, I have no desire to watch current propaganda, not even for entertainment sake. Now I love some of the old cold war stuff.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) We can call this the geog-off contest. uff nicely played sir.
  15. This becomes a definition problem. Trying to develop (pun intended) a definition of what should be reported and choosing to err on the side of caution. Certainly most people will agree that it should not be up to a clerk at Walmart to decide what is, and is not, acceptable. So you give them some standard like "the pictures cannot show a child's genitalia" Seems easy enough. The clerk does not have to make a judgment call, they see a child's genitalia, and turn them over to police. Presumably, to someone with some training and judgment. Then you write a different procedures and laws that outline what should be investigated and what to do while the investigation is happening. It would be a nightmare to discover that a child was being sexual abused in the home while police were investigating, especially if they had photo evidence that something may have been wrong. We'd string them up by their genitalia. So standard operating procedure is remove the child(ren) while the investigation take place. Again, erring on the side of caution. A series of common sense procedures add up to this mess and a nightmare for one family. Everyone doing the right thing, and it ending up all wrong.
  16. QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Like I said, on the outside it seems nice and dandy... enough so for some folks to carve an actual happy lifestyle out of it. I have nothing against them. That's why we're here. But it doesn't change my opinion one bit. You call it hatred, sure I may share some dissent for those who brainwash, personally I find it a disgusting tactic to get one to submit themselves to a religion. The bottom line for me is that NO one single person can act as an authority of God. LDS acts as if they are the best of the best, Gods greatest children and Gods favorite. They feed this kind of propaganda to the youth to keep them within their circle for their whole lives. It is a giant scam and a giant lie, of the greatest magnitude possible! Think about it... what greater a scam then one based on a religion that people entrust their faith to? Religion is one of those things which is seemingly right and just in a world of confusion and hypocrisy. People turn to religion to help them get in touch with God. It is a sought-after service. So what better a way to scam people? Earn their faith and trust with the "words of God", and then you can perform any wicked, evil act you wish, on behalf of God and Jesus Christ. I'd be willing to wager that God and Jesus were not Mormons. I'd be willing to wager that when it is all said and done, in a just world, those who do evil things in the name of God and Jesus Christ are resigned to go to Hell. It's not hate, to me it's logic. And those who carved out themselves a happy life.. be they Mormon, Christian, Atheist, Buddhist, what have you, will find themselves also in a happy place after life. I'm more so focusing on the exploiters, the wealthy, those who use God to benefit themselves financially. As I said originally in this post, I share an extreme dissent for those kinds of people. Sorry for the confusion. Sure you don't.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) Thanks for the well wishes!!! So when is the baby due?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) And yet, which President gets remembered as a bumbling fool for falling down the air force 1 stairs? President Chevy Chase
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) Whatever house my wife and I buy, it will have a basement, and I will eventually (if its not already there) wall in a small room that will be the "offices" for my non-profit wilderness outfit. The walls will be entirely covered in maps. World map, US map, divide trail map, Quetico map, all full of tacks and notations and markings for where we have been and where we want to go. Other than maps, it will have one big beat up table in the middle to lay out navigations, and a beer fridge. That's it. gawd I am ready for that. Anyway, as it is we actually have some cool historical maps as decorations here and there, which fortunately my wife also likes. Awesome room to drink a few beers in.
  20. QUOTE (Wise Master Buehrle @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:22 PM) This is true, outside of SLC there is a bevy of national parks and forests, all beautiful of course. The beauty of nature is untouched by the ugly Mormon religion. Interesting that none of the Mormon friends I have have nearly as much hate as you. And I find hate to be the most destructive of all emotions.
  21. America was feeling like giant losers on the heels of Vietnam, Nixon, Ford, and being held hostage by Iran. Reagan came in, literally wearing a western hat and riding tall in the saddle like a cowboy, and made made America believe we could kick ass again. #1 feat of any President since I can remember. And for that I ranked him #1. He also taught both parties to spend, spend, spend. Started the anti-judiciary and anti-journalism movements for the GOP. Carter is far underrated for getting all the hostages back alive. Today, they would have been dead.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) I'm a geography nerd, I love maps, My gf and I were just discussing decorating, I hesitantly mentioned I really wanted to decorate with topo maps of some of the places I've been or want to go. She thought it was a great idea One caveat, she wanted new ones, not the annotated, used ones form the trip. And we are planning on framing them, not just the bachelor pinning to the wall.
  23. Reagan did more positive and more negative than any of the others. Overall, I placed him slightly head of a couple others.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) I'd suggest that New Mexico, Montana and Colorado beat Utah in that category, maybe Idaho too. Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and the north rim of the Grand Canyon . . . A case could be built for all that you mentioned. And a tip of the cap that you stayed land locked.
  25. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Yeah whatever. I just threw that out there. So forget everything else and just go to The Pie. What do you expect from a Mormon? I kid because I care™
