QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 07:22 AM) If the illegal immigration and drug trades that are happening in their front yards weren't happening, I kinda doubt they would be as worried about the recreational stuff. They should be at O'Hare to stop the drug trade. The tons and tons of drugs that America is addicted to are not carried across the border on people's backs. They are shipped in via truck and plane. Echos of Reagan "Tear down this wall!"

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) No way in hell we wanted to see them again. About how I feel about some of the border watchers I meet. They can not understand that the river is a recreation area for people that live here. More than once I've watched them fidget and I get real nervous.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) In Big Bend, I'd think it was a mountain lion. It was. I said big cat, I should have been clearer. Before I leave the border area I would love to see a Jagurundi or Ocelot. I've been on a couple observations with US Fish and Wildlife, but never have seen one.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 04:16 PM) In other news, the government is also releasing large jaguars near the border to help with the illegal immigrant problem Way cool. The closest I have been to a big cat was at Big Bend a few years back. It was on the other side of a notch as we were backpacking. One of the Scouts spotted it.

Playboy: Santelli's "Tea Party" rant pre-planned?

typical liberal media trying to keep the real news away from the American public. -
Discuss . . . and yes, the best comments will fit somewhere in a homework assignment

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) I've backpacked in the country near the border. The Malpais Borderlands area, SW NM and SE AZ. Its rough terrain, there is very little water, and it can be slow going. With a motivated, well-equiped group, it takes upwards of a week to a week and a half to get from the border to I-10. These guys have to also travese similar distance on the other side, and they are not at all well equipped. I am not at all surprised that there are so many fatalities. McAllen to Corpus in 2 days is hauling ass. Talk about fastpacking with light gear. Much like the underground railroad helped escaping slaves, there are ranches and homes where travelers can find food and water. I can almost hear the echos of Ronald Reagan standing at our border and yelling "Tear down your wall!"

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) well, why wouldn't we criticize him after 4 weeks in office. He has run by far the most reckless presidency in our history. See, feels good doesn't it

Amazing [/size] In 1972, Joe Miller was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Tulsa Junior College . On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Joe approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee, inspected the elephants foot, and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Joe worked the wood out with his knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to Joe, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Joe stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Joe never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Thirty years later, Joe was walking through the Tulsa Zoo with His family. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Joe and his Family were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Joe, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man. Remembering the encounter years later, Joe could not help wondering if this was the same elephant. Joe summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing, and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Joe 's legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly. Probably wasn't the same elephant. This is for everyone who sends me those heart-warming bulls*** stories.

That is actually tougher than I thought. Since we seem to be thinking players only, Thomas, Fisk, Aparicio, Fox Tough calls Joe Jackson (too controversial) Baines (character ++) Ozzie (player/manager ++ controversy --) Veeck (if we expanded) Chuck Comisky

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) I don't necessarily believe every right and punishment for adult should be pushed up to 21. I believe that all should be at the same age regardless if it is 18, 19, 20, or 21. Those who can be punished as an adult should also receive all the rights of an adult. If someone can join the military they should be able to drink. If someone can be charged as an adult, they should be able to vote. We have too many different ages that define adulthood. For example, if the set age was 19, I think all 19 year olds should be able to vote, drink, join the military, and be tried as adults. We shouldn't be able to say that someone should be trusted to act like an adult and give them the same privileges that other adults get to enjoy. While I don't usually see things as just black or white, this is one of the few cases I do. Either you are an adult or your not; rights, privileges, and punishments included. And drive a car? Drop out of school? Be President? How about the maximum age to join the military? Border Patrol? It seems unreal to think that all these dissimilar activities and privileges, would be grouped together. Instead of activity A should have this minimum age because of this, the logic is well if we're going to call someone an adult, they should have everything at the same time.

Lawyer claims abuses at Gitmo worse since Obama

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) It also only takes 1 overzealous lawyer to make s*** up in order to try and foster the exact kind of outrage you see here in order to help his client's prospects. All you have is allegations, no proof. That too. -
Obama promises $2T in budget cuts over 10 years

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) In a lot of cases, I'm game for that. In some cases, I'm not. Our farm subsidy system is an absolute debacle of the highest order. It makes us all less healthy and wastes $100's of billions and is an environmental killer. Care to explain? How does keeping land from being developed, or left natural instead of being planted, harm the environment? -
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) To me, it just seems odd that at 16 we are legally allowed to drive a 2-ton lump of metal on wheels up to 70 MPH. It would be quite easy to take a life if done irresponsibly. At 18 we are legally allowed to purchase and own firearms. It would be quite easy to take a life if used irresponsibly. But yet we have to wait until 21 because we might drink and drive and kill somebody. People are given opportunities, and this age group has succeeded in some, and failed at others. It would seem more odd to bundle all this and suggest there needs to be one age for everything. Then do you pick the youngest age that some of the people can handle everything, or the oldest age when the majority can handle everything? Different laws and responsibilities for different ages. Dude, back to the matter at hand, we had High School girls pimping out their friends. How cool is that. Hey Myron, I can get you some. What are you looking for?

It seemed like Obama was getting bashed earlier than most Presidents. IMHO after 6 1/2 years of Bush supporters getting bounced around, they can finally be on the offensive. There seems to be a lot of pent up energy.

I was expecting this to have turned into an Obamathon of bashing. Let's be careful in painting too broad a path. It only takes a couple guards to make this seem like an epidemic. -
Obama promises $2T in budget cuts over 10 years

If you spend a trillion or two "early" in 2009 as a stimulus, doesn't it make sense you could at least cut that much?
