QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Sure, they are forced to submit them. but to hold onto them until youget a few thousand, and then into those insert the ones you know are fake but otherwise have regular names, and it is easy to get a bunch to slip thru. if the people are busy looking for Donald Duck, they are going to miss John Jones. That's why the woman in Ohio waited to turn in over 200,000 registrations at one time, to hide the ones they really want to hide. Because the checking process is different based on how many get turned in. Pretty damn sneaky. Or maybe wait for someone to turn in 200,000, then sneak in your little fraud list while everyone is busy on that big list.

Let's think why people are volunteering. I know of people helping out on campaigns because Their Pol Sci 101 Prof offered 5 points extra credit There was a cute guy that asked There was a cute girl that asked Believe they should "be involved" Political ideology When someone then does something really stupid, is it really fair to blame the candidate? They each have tens of thousands of volunteers, mostly faceless and nameless. If y'all really want to try and make a judgment call about the candidate because some moron with a clipboard and an campaign button does something beyond idiot level, suit yourself, but I hope most people can get past the b.s. and really look objectively between the two candidates, and vote for the person they believe is the best for America between 2009 and 2013. We actually have a pretty damn good choice this time between two damn fine Americans. I'd be proud to vote FOR either one. For once this shouldn't be about plugging your nose and voting for the lesser of two evils.

2008 World Series - Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Texsox replied to knightni's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) Have either of those two won a World Series? I was originally going to root for the Rays (to have another team win it all before the Cubs), but it'd be hard to root against two guys that have been around that long. Damn good reason to cheer for the Rays. I usually follow this heirarchy Sox > Al Central > AL Pennant Winner. About the only NL teams I may pick over any other AL team would be the Astros or Cardinals. -
I was so disappointed in 2000, this year I thought it was a successful, fun season. I believe the biggest difference between the two seasons was 2005. In 2000 I thought that could be the last chance for me to see a Sox World Series in my lifetime.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) but hopefully that is true. That I haven't posted? I was just thinking, when we had two pretty s***ty choices, like the last election, when the debate and conversation got to the stupid petty level, no big deal because quite frankly that's probably all they had. But this time I think we have two pretty damn good candidates once the b.s. is cleared away. But all we seem to know is dealing with piss poor candidates and we're back to crap discussions. (and I miss this in a broad sense, not just Soxtalk)

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) Interestingly he's gone FAR beyond anything I've done and I've toned it down in the last month. Then I do apologize, you chased me out of these discussions weeks ago and I hardly ever read a thread in the 'buster.

QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Who cares? He "dogs" it at a hall-of-fame caliber. I don't care if he takes a dump in the outfield every game if he posts a .900+ OPS, which he's done pretty much every year of his career. I really just can't understand the Manny Ramirez hatred going on in this thread. I guess I believe you can take one without hating the other

QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 09:20 AM) I commented on the jersey because I like wearing jerseys. That's what the thread was about. And my comment was enjoy them now because when you get older, most of the time, they are going to look silly. But my opinion was changed and I acknowledge when that happens. There are guys in their late twenties, thirties, and older that can wear them most of the time. They can wear them to work, out to dinner at their usual restaurants, when they are hanging out at the sports bar on a Wednesday night for Hump Day, watching Sports Center at home, you know, most of the time.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) I'm not trying to change your mind. I just don't know why it matters to you what someone else chooses to wear. I'm not certain why someone cares what I think about what they wear, but that seems to be the thread Why else post a picture of a new outfit? You thought enough to criticize the bottom.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 20, 2008 -> 07:16 AM) That's not where this started. It started with you saying you think it looks stupid. So the discussion is about what others think at some level. My respect for my mother isn't based on wardrobe, never has been. You are forgetting I added MOST OF THE TIME. But of course some people do not understand what that actually means or did not read that. And respect was a very poor choice in my post. But I am certain y'all would think it was cool that mom is still wearing a mini skirt and halter and dad wears platform shoes with that leisure suit and getting his hair permed. Fashions change, and as they do, stuff starts looking silly. The jersey fashion will go away, as has every other fashion throughout history. But I will admit I was wrong. Y'all have convinced me there are guys over 25 with lifestyles where they can wear jerseys most of the time and not look silly. They can wear them to work, out to dinner, on dates, etc. and they look great.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) I'm officially dubbing this the "Alpha Dog needs to vent" thread. I'm dubbing this the Alpha Dog became Athomeboy thread and enjoying the irony of you finding fault.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 18, 2008 -> 05:48 AM) I see a lot more adults wearing jerseys than boys scout uniforms. Oooh, that stings

It's not what people think, it's what you become comfortable in. Believe it or not but some people do change as they grow up. Some people don't. Hairstyles, glasses, shoes, cars, clothing. Some people even keep calling other people names like they are in third grade at recess. If you are the type of guy that wants to look like he's perpetually 17, go for it. I never said anything about what people think. My point is you change as you get older. Fashions change as you get older. I'm certain y'all would respect your mom's if they wore halter tops and miniskirts like they did when they were in college.
-
QUOTE (The Critic @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 11:09 AM) That's a different argument. Those are specific situations, not an across the board age-based ban. I would argue that a 21-year-old would look silly wearing a jersey to talk to a lawyer. And I will MOST DEFINITELY wear a jersey and shorts when I take my grandkids to the zoo. Book that. You probably will and maybe with your hat backwards and cool shoes. It also depends on your kids. Some kids are uncomfortable when dad or grand dad starts looking like a college student. So why don't you think we see more older adults wearing jerseys?

murcie, great analysis.

I will probably see it. I am hoping for an over the top parody, anything else will be too weird for me.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) First experience getting drunk: Heineken Brewery, Amsterdam. Beat that Not certain if it was my first, but 7&7's so bad I asked this girl to stick her fingers down my throat so I could puke. To this day, I can not stand the smell of whiskey. For a long time my favorite was a nice chilled vodka, neat with a couple olives. Shots of tequila, no problem. Gin and tonic until the sun comes up. But whiskey even after 30 years.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) Exactly. Someone please answer this for me too. That would be impossible, they are both incredible athletes and two of the best playing right now. To to try and prove one hasn't produced is silly. To rephrase my comment, in deciding between two of the greatest to ever play the game, I'll take Alex being Alex to Manny being Manny. That's not to discredit Manny, but if I'm betting $30 mil a year, I'll take A-Rod being A-Rod.
-
QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) There is a time and place for everything. Obviously I would dress for the occasion. But, I could still picture myself at the age of 75, at a sports bar wearing my old beaten Thomas Jersey. I could too, when I was 25.
-
Yeah, maybe 25 was too young. But at some point in most guy's lives, they look silly wearing a jersey. Maybe it's while taking the grand kids to the zoo, maybe while meeting with their attorney about retirement planning, maybe at the PTA meeting, or their kids music recital. But it does happen.
-
Very nice. IMHO someone over the age of 25 or so looks stupid most of the time wearing one, but it does look pretty cool.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 07:09 AM) Manny Ramirez is a douche bag. He loafed this season with the Red Sox who have only paid him about $120 million. It was so bad, his TEAMMATES told management he needs to go. He gets "motivated" playing for a new contract, and suddenly he's a better player than ARod? Please. Barry Bonds was awful in the post season until later in his career. Frank Thomas has had 2 post season series where he failed to get a hit. It happens. ARod is a superior player. Manny could have been right up there with him, but he was the one who chose not to. He is pretty awesome when he wants to be, but that isn't everyday. He even took a couple of Septembers off with the Red Sox with mystery injuries. God help whichever team opens the bank for him this winter. ^^^^ With A-Rod I know he's going to give me max effort every night. With Manny, once he has the cash guaranteed, I'm not certain who is going to show up. Advantage A-Rod.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) No No No No No No No It is the CURE, NOT the CAUSE. Who wrote this article, Steven Glass? This is scary, two references so far, I'm wondering if no one else is catching it.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 06:16 AM) I am giving all the credit in the world to Savard here. His interviews on the subject have been nothing but respectful and classy. I gove him a lot of respect for that. Obviously my local news is much more focused on High School football, so I'm not seeign any of the reports.

QUOTE (mreye @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) Judging by all the "How do I talk to a girl?" and "Should I ask a girl to go on a date?" threads, no one here needs to worry about this.
