So how exactly are they taking control of people's cars and forcing it over the speed limit? Magnetics?

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) Slap Shot, The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke... His Oscar nominations stretch all the way from 1959 with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof to 2003 Road to Perdition. The Color of Money / Hustler was a unique twist as well.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) what a weak list so far. Weak how?

Cool, a win on national TV, trust me, that ain't often it seems. Time Warner fixed my signal shortly before game time or else someone would have had a very pissed off customer on the phone.

At one time the most a speed limit could be lowered in one step was 10 MPH. That was to prevent "speed traps" where limits would drop from 55 to 25 in an unreasonably short space. I imagine in your example that lowering the limit 20 MPH would create more of a hazard. Also, any reduction should catch drivers attention and keep them more vigilant, a bigger factor, as you noted, then the actual speed. So would you suggest not lowering speeds in construction zone? It seems that more then just construction workers are killed in work zones. http://www.herald-review.com/articles/2008...ate/1034205.txt

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) That was a golden opportunity to use this icon You disappoint me Tex you're killing me.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 10:57 AM) Educate me then. Also, Tex, remember your stance on that lady that leased a car that she couldnt afford and there were discussion of a government bailout and you cried saying it wasnt her fault, the salesmen tricked her. You sleigh me. I sleigh you? Sorry, I'm not Santa.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 10:02 AM) Well, since youre an expert on the years of highway data, physics, construction, traffic levels and road design Id like to hear the genius behind having the exits for Harlem and Austin on the left side of 290. Im not talking about Texas so to cop and use excuses like this doesnt prove anything. Illinois has enough problems with corruption and taking money out of the peoples hands to give to the government is bulls***. Unless you operate every aspect of your life crime free, and I mean everything, jaywalking, speeding, not using turn signals etc youre a hypocrite for defending this. Now, since youre such an advocate for ILLEGAL immigrants maybe you should take a page from your own book, if they didnt break the law there would be no problem, even though you disagree with the law. Well then based on your logic, we have no one that can defend any laws since everyone breaks a law once in a while. For the record, I advocate for a guest worker law that will allow immigrants to come to the US and work legally based on available jobs. So what qualifications do you have that allows you to have an opinion on speed limits? Since you break the law, you can advocate getting rid of the law? Break the law, pay a fine. Don't break the law, don't pay a fine. But I guess some people in Illinois can't help themselves, they have to break the law and then the evil, corrupt government you elected there capitalizes on your weakness. It's not myyyyyyyyyyyyy fault, the government made me do it and now they are taking my money

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) Ha, what?! Are you assuming the Royals only play hard against us, and roll over for the Tigers and Twins? Put some blame on the team that's dropping games to such a crappy opponent. Exactly. And there is a chicken and egg thing happening here also. The Royals play with confidence against us, because they beat us way to often. They beat us way to often because they play with confidence against us.

It seems that it takes catching lightening in a bottle to win a championship. 2005 saw a rookie closer perform beyond all expectations. Doesn't matter who we roll the dice with, the available options are all fraught with more questions then answers and all a longish shots to be productive. Fishing farther up the food chain for a more proven SP will result in digging a hole somewhere else. Here's to getting lucky

BA and AB, both on the list, are a great contrast. For those that prize on field accomplishments, they probably wonder why AB is not higher. For those that place a high value on off the field factors, they are scratching their heads and wondering why someone who basically was an expensive, ungrateful, whore in a Sox uniform, could even make the list.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) Sun-Times' Chris De Luca thinks Kenny will make a push for Jarrod Washburn... Chris De Luca wrote: With few suitable in-house options, look for general manager Ken Williams to make a strong push for veteran left-hander Jarrod Washburn. Washburn - a pitcher who was on the Sox' radar before the latest Contreras injury - reportedly has cleared waivers. Washburn, who turns 34 on Wednesday, is 5-11 with a 4.76 ERA in 23 games with the Mariners, including 22 starts. Yea!

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 08:26 AM) There is a difference between differing opinions and infighting. Every office place has differences of opinion. But to have "cliques" and inward wars is trouble some. It's when two sides are trying to push agendas and they collide. That's when you start to see leaked memos and such. Exactly. Careful hiring of people all with the same agenda prevents that. Also, hiring subordinate personalities who will not "rock the boat" is a good preventative strategy. It worked wonders for Bush in the past two elections.

Thankfully there are no diversity of opinions or thoughts in other campaigns. Get a bunch of people who all think the same and go from there.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:37 AM) So do the entire KC Royals team. They are a disgrace. They fold vs. the Tigers and Twins at home and they'll kick our ass at least one of the games in the upcoming series, maybe 2. What a joke they are. You gotta win against the weak teams.

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) Any chance we wait and see if Beltre is put on or clears waivers? It seems that most teams put their entire roster on waivers and see who clears. It gives them the most flexibility and may hide the player(s) they really have available. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb

Sounds like Bill was her most senior advisor, seems like a smart move since he won two campaigns for the same office.

The issue I have here is the poor reliability of Time Warner internet and telephone. I finally am back on line after being down for nearly two days for a wide area problem. No Olmpics opening at my house. Prior to that I was down for a day for a local problem. In April and May I was without service for an hour or two every day. Always between eleven and two. They could not find the problem. I was gone June and July, so who knows what it was doing. Then I come back in August and the problems start again. Their "free" phone (bundled) is too expensive compared to a regular phone that would actually work. I burn up so many cell phone minutes calling to try and get this fixed. I'm going to look at the Direct TV bundles, or I may just keep my cable tv, that seems to work most of the time and just switch telecoms.

Instead of an arbitrary number based on years of highway data, physics, road construction, traffic levels, and road design. Let's use a number based on how fast people want to drive and to accomodate the people who break the law. ah sure. Once people are comfortable with 70, some will go 75 or 80. Still others may not be comfortable at those speeds and will continue to drive 55 or 60.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) I'd be VERY curious on this race thing. I still stand that while Bill Clinton is not a racist, he used race to try and paint Obama as "the black guy." It is not beneath the Clintons to use ANY tactic they think might work. It is not beneath *ANY* politician to use ANY tactic they think will work.

some posters focus on playing accomplishments for their favorites. He's a love him or hate him guy. I pulled for him in a Sox uni and then stopped when he left. I believe all of my top 20 I would cheer for after they leave, just not against the Sox.

According to the Dish Network website, the package includes Comcast Chicago which they claim carriers the Bulls and Sox subject to blackout.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 11:36 AM) If more Soxtalkers had taken the time to make a list maybe a player at #2 on someones list wouldn't be weighted so heavily. And no I didn't submit a list either. I've followed the Sox longer than most of you have been alive and to single out favorites over a 40 year period made me think I'd submit the list then go "Oh damn I forgot" insert players name. Once you're on the Sox you become my favorite unless you show me you don't enjoy being a Sox ( Cabrera, David Wells). In all these lists, I have never seen someone on fewer lists higher ranked then someone on more lists. It seems that the first sort is number of lists, then the tie breaker is higher ranked. But looking at the tie breaker for players on 4 lists, BA with Heads placing him #2, was a few players behind Wilbur Wood whose highest ranking was #3 on mine. In fact Wood was ahead of The Milkman who had a #1 ranking. So just one person ranking some very high does not make as much of a difference then people are thinking. BA 4 lists highest #2

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 04:06 AM) This whole concept is rather stupid IMO because all it takes is one person to love the player and he is top 50 so I don't know why people are putting so much thought into the argument. No one is going to agree with the list because people like players for different reasons. Read the list, laugh at how terrible it is going to be, and move on. I'm not certain why you think it takes just one person for a player to make the final list. It actually took three, and BA was on four. If more people had taken the time to vote, perhaps it would have taken even more appearances on lists. But as soon as we picked favorite it generally eliminates guys you did not see play. So Jackson et. al. are not listed. It's also rather insulting to Knight who put in weeks of work compiling this and putting it together. This is the third or fourth list he has done and every one has been very popular.
