  1. I believe superstition and tradition dictates we continue the positive game thread.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 15, 2008 -> 06:43 AM) Going through the regime only benefits the regime and doesn't help those who need help. Giving aid to make ourselves feel better about the situation when we know very well that the aid will just be confiscated by the regime doesn't make much sense to me. Direct air drops might be another solution. Bypassing the regime may be the last ditch effort. But they control the military and could just as easily control the supply that way. Sadly, the most efficient way to save lives is buy off the government with direct US aid in exchange for the humanitarian relief getting through.
  3. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 15, 2008 -> 05:34 AM) Yeah, I remember not too long ago when that used to be called the Loser Line and everybody above 10K was considered a freak. Now, 10K to just over 11K is considered the epicenter of coolness but anybody much above that is still pretty much a loser. I know. It's funny how social standards change around here but I always seem to be right there in the heart of the cool zone. I can't really explain it either. So very true. Especially when Pachorkin's Curved Law of Coolness is factored in. B) 10,000 - 11,200 Cool 20,000 - 22,400 Cool X2 30,000 - 34,200 Cool X3 40,000 - 46,400 Cool -X2 50,000 - 69,200 Cool -X3
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 15, 2008 -> 06:10 AM) But they won't. They'll just keep hording it for themselves or selling it on the black market. They're not going to give out the aide for free to those who need it. That leaves cutting off aid. Tough decision. Survival comes in threes. Three minutes without oxygen, thee days without water, and three weeks without food. I'm not certain there is time to put together a solution that goes around the regime.
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:19 PM) I think we should airdrop aid packages, each containing rice, some of those fabulous UN biscuits, an AK-47, a few hundred rounds of ammo and a map to the capital. What, you don't like American made M16s? Pinko Commie bastard
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ May 14, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) 10,000!! Just realized! meh, slacker. Welcome to the club It wasn't that long ago that 10,000 posts meant something around here.
  7. QUOTE (The Beast @ May 14, 2008 -> 05:25 PM) Leadoff hitters are overrated. You are only guaranteed one at bat with no one on and no on out. So to a degree, I agree.
  8. Seems to me the priority should be get on base stay out of a double play have some speed to possible steal second or grab that extra base. Make the pitcher think when you are over there. Call for more fast balls, etc. Now of all the managers in the MLB, who would be most likely to make what would seem like a stupid baseball decision and go from his gut? Ozzie.
  9. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) Well because I dont agree with Grand Jury's. The entire premise of the Grand Jury is that it is supposed to be secret, so secret that the information is never to be seen by the public. Because of the "secretiveness" you are not allowed to use the 5th amendment protection of not incriminating yourself. Thus Bonds was in a catch-22. He could testify the truth, have it revealed and have his legacy tarnished. Or, he could deny it, and let the govt prove him wrong. Its easy to say that "Oh if only he told the truth." But that simply does not assess the situation of a grand jury and being forced to testify without 5th amendment protection. The facts are the govt promised that it would be secret, the only reason you dont get 5th amendment protection is because it should be secret. So please dont say that I defended perjury, I attacked the Grand Jury proceeding and showed that it is no longer "secret" and therefore Bonds should have had 5th amendment protections. If Bonds pleads the 5th, he never is charged with perjury either. Just he is not allowed to plead the 5th in a grand jury proceeding, if he does not testify he can be sent to jail. The only reason that our judicial system allows this is because grand juries are supposed to be entirely sealed and secret. /shrugs But maybe people on the board think its fair that Bonds was forced to testify, promised that no matter what nothing he said would ever be released to the public and then have the transcripts released. To me, that just goes against our entire judicial system and process. If the govt makes a deal predicated on a fact, and that fact is not true, then they should not be able to hold the other party to that same deal. Now, if the transcripts are never released and Bonds perjured, it would be an entirely different fact pattern. But as the facts are, he was right that the testimony would not be kept secret, and therefore right in his refusal to play by their rules. Why should Bonds have to follow the rules when the govt doesnt? Why should Bonds follow the rules? Wow. You really do not know why someone should follow the rules?
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 14, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) I don't care what y'all say, those 4 popped collars look badass. Plus they are green. Wow. Like cosmic for here.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 14, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) I saw that picture and was like, wow, he kind of looks like me. I looked just as ridiculous with my popped collar too and it was all for nothing as Krod shut everyone but Quentin down Would that be you on the left or right?
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 14, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) That may be the catalyst of the whole thing, but the charges are because he perjured himself to the grand jury. If he doesn't lie, then there's nothing to charge him with. How someone could defend perjury and blame it on a book is beyond me. Celebrity status buys you many things in America. If you can kill, why not shoot up? Betty Ford clinic was a career move for some people. Rappers get street cred. Bad behavior sells. An all-drug league would outsell a no-drug league for fans. Well, at the minimum the TV ratings would be higher for 600 ft HRs and 103 mph fastballs then "clean" play.

  15. I borrowed a buddies USB record player and converted all my old vinyl. Then did the same with my CDs and cassettes. If my mom hadn't have sold off my 8-tracks, the count would be even higher. 3,000 songs 14.35 GB 8 days worth. And I'd guess almost 100% legit. I do have some bootlegs (thanks again) and some odds and ends.
  16. Thanks for posting that, it was a great read. In a bit of irony, a crappy article, full of half truths, mistakes, and lies actually sparks more cobversation that one that nails it the first time.
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 14, 2008 -> 10:52 AM) No its because the govt gave Bonds immunity and he refused to play their game. He didnt believe that the grand jury testimony would be secret, and therefore if he told the truth it would be leaked. The govt promised Barry that it would be secret and there would be no way anything said could be revealed. Funny how that worked, I swear there was some book of shadows thing. No, it's because he used drugs. No drugs and none of this happens.
  18. The bigger the name, the bigger the accomplishments, the bigger the denials, the bigger the hubris, the bigger the target.
  19. QUOTE (thedoctor @ May 14, 2008 -> 09:44 AM) i'm sick of talking about the white sox. oh, wait... We even have that covered. There is almost no subject we have not talked about in one of the forums or another.
  20. Paranoia? I started the thread for the exact reason you see in post #1. There are a bunch of topics everyone is sick of, but we keep going back to them. Maybe if we all agree, we can simmer the stove, and move on to something else. And yes, there is also a big picture. Some damn good posters VOLUNTARILY have stopped posting and when we ask why, we here it is all the negativity and beat to death topics. So as Mods, we will continue to try and build a site that works for the majority of people. As a personal note, we have unlimited space so it seems there should be room for everyone. But sometimes it would be nice to tell people to go to their rooms and quit pissing off their brother.
  21. A lot of posters have written to us with the opinion that our regular game thread is often times too negative. Too filled with the tired old complaints and clichés. So if you want to hang out in an alternate game thread, have fun, and just enjoy the game while chatting with fellow Soxtalk posters, this is the place. If you are a half empty, complaining, enjoying having your negative predictions come through, kind of guy, there is the other one. Look over the tired, beat down topics, those will be off limits here. Maybe we won't have anything to talk about except the quality of the beer we are drinking, but that may be more fun.
  22. QUOTE (farmteam @ May 13, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) Yeah, I see where that can get confusing. I guess for people outside the culture, it's hard to understand. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I guess I can understand where he's coming from, and that's why I'm on the minority in this one. I happened to be thinking about this as I was walking tonight, and it is surprising you posted. While I think you missed the mark, you actually were close to a very good point, or perhaps this is more what you were thinking. He didn't hack in to see what info he could steal and use for financial gain, he had a specific bit of information he was looking for, and he probably was not going to gain financially from it. But just like the thief who breaks a window and enters a business. It just doesn't matter if he broke in to polish the silver or to steal it, the first crime is breaking and entering.
  23. That is great news. I think the team really screwed him over. I hate he's wearing a Sox of the wrong color cap in the HoF
