Flowers, Lillibridge and De Aza helping the Sox win
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) What does Katie Upton actually do? Model like a goddess

Technology catch-all thread
Motorola is a terribly run company from what I've heard. One of my coworker's girlfriend worked there and they promised her coming in out of undergrad that they would pay for her MBA, 3 years later they kept denying to do any such thing. She left for Wrigley.

Flowers, Lillibridge and De Aza helping the Sox win
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 11:00 AM) I was alarmed yesterday when I got a Jimmy Johns sandwich and it was 6 bucks. It used to be 3.85 That is alarming, and then I see your avatar and I realize that I don't need food, I need Kate Upton.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 08:56 AM) Leave it to Y2HH to paint large swaths of people with a broad brush. I'm just surprised he didn't say something about how Apple users are all a bunch of popularity followers, so it makes sense that liberals buy them

Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:34 PM) And these moves drove the Dunn/PK signings. So it could really hurt us...but it could pay off as well. I still haven't written off Dunn/Rios/Peavy as being reasonable producers over the next few years. The only one I could see really coming close to earning their salary is Dunn, I just think Peavy will have too many arm issues (leading to injuries or lack of consistent good pitches) and Rios, well I thought he was garbage a year ago.

Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) Yeah, but these types are usually overseen by some pretty intelligent baseball people. Who would serve that role for Hahn? See that's a tough question to answer as a fan, since I don't really know the unsung baseball geniuses throughout the league, but I'm sure there is a good list of people that could work well with Hahn.

Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 10:05 PM) A genius as it pertains to the business side of the game. As for his knowledge of actual players and how to build a baseball team, I don't think any of us have a clue what he knows. Which is why I said that it's hard to find information on the ast. GMs. Still, look at where some of the best GMs have come form, they are smart guys who have business backgrounds that can learn the baseball stuff. Look at Daniels down in Texas, bright guy who had little to no baseball experience. Hahn has more experience and would probably have a smoother transition.

Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) And I don't get this fascination with Hahn..what the heck has he ever done? Is sounds like the same foolishness with Paxson. Neither of these guys are qualified to run a sports organization. It's harder to get information on assistant GMs and the impact they have on their organization, but from all accounts Hahn is a genius. And I take it that you haven't looked around the league and where some of the best GMs have come from.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) I was just thinking, GW Bush looks like a really good president when you compare him to Obama. be honest, did any of you think Obama would be this incompetent? I thought he would probably suck, but i had no idea it would reach these historic levels. To be fair Obama has done some things very well in office. Beyond that, I'm really not sure if it's just the current political climate or what but he can't seem to get much done at all. I do think he gets a ton of blame for stuff he really has no control over, but he has been a disappointment. But that's what happens when you come in promising to change everything to be better, of course you won't meet expectations. He was always a guy that was going to talk a big game, with the deliverables lacking.

To Sequel or not to Sequel
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) Speaking of s***ty sequels, Bridgette Jones 3 and Austin Powers 4 are a go. Dear God. They seem to be able to pump out bad movies and yet ones like Arrested Development take forever to get made.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) Well, this should be interesting... http://muse.adobe.com/?trackingid=JAWWD Sounds like a beefed up iWeb but for PC, I like it a lot and a ton of student organizations/start up companies will be looking to use something like this.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) Maybe compared to Ozzie, but the reality is not really. It was more of a shot towards Ozzie.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Do you realize how much your post is a perfect portrait of the polarization that is killing American politics? On what planet is being a "moderate" equivalent to not having a spine? Far as I am concerned, if an individual is willing to stand on their beliefs on issues even if some fall left and some fall right... that takes a heck of a lot more courage than simply jumping into the pool and shouting "see how I am a better version of all these people who feel the saying way!!!" And being a foreign dignitary for the United States, sticking with the job regardless of who the President is, takes a lot more courage than jumping ship out of political weakness. Seriously, this drives me batty, and your view that anyone who isn't lock-step with their party is somehow spineless is a PERFECT image of a major cause of our current political problems.

Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 11:49 AM) This is a funny quote, because this is pretty much what was said about the Agon rumors, yet you keep ripping us for posting it. I know people have kinda joked that Marty is actually Cowley, but is this actually true? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 12:10 PM) You'll never hear him say that until he is out of a job. He knows the definition of professionalism atleast.

Changes Looming If No Postseason
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 05:14 PM) Where do I sign up? I'm still holding out hope for an Ozzie for LoMo trade. LoMo kinda scares me with his twitter fascination, that could get old real quick. But at the same time, he seems like he's a good kid, apparently does a lot in the community down there in Florida.

Indiana State Fair stage collapses
Holy hell, that stage fell on a ton of people. I really hope the casualties are not as bad as what I think they'll be.

Hurray for civility...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) In other words, why is everyone pounding on Alpha for this, when the same thing happens here every single day and nothing gets said because the left wing agrees with it? Please, the liberal posters on here have been told countless times that Palin isn't a real option, they get slammed by the conservative posters daily. Both sides need to recognize their faults, and how hypocritical they are in every single topic I see posted here.

Hurray for civility...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) I'm just saying if you expect a courtesy, you probably should engage in it yourself. I don't follow, since this should be directed more at Alpha than me, atleast the way I'm reading it. I don't really think Palin has a chance, I was just saying that as an analogy for how ridiculous that line of thinking was, for both sides.

What bugs/creatures/whatever freak you out?
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 08:25 AM) A former co-worker got bit by a brown recluse spider. A f***ing spider bite. Moral of the story? Shoot yourself in the head if you get bit by a recluse. His arm is still f***ed up. Holy f***, I keep wishing that second photo is photoshopped.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:33 AM) To me, creepiest bug ever title goes to the Tarantula Wasp. Bad enough it is a wasp big enough to win a fight with a tarantula, and worse that it can also give humans a painful sting, but that's not the kicker. When a female Tarantula Wasp has eggs, it attacks a tarantula, paralyzes it, and then lays its eggs inside the tarantula. Tarantula wakes up, goes about his life, and the baby wasps slowly eat their way out of the tarantula eventually killing it. Yikes. Wow, talk about a bad relationship.

Hurray for civility...
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:33 AM) I've ready very similar posts on this board actually... And how frustrating is that for conservative posters? How stupid do you think posters who write that are for believing that?

Hurray for civility...
QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) i don't know how this came up - but she's not gonna run. she's making way too much damn money doing book tours and "trying to decide" to run to actually do it. But a small minority like her, and that one opinion columnist said she would run. So I figured everyone thought she was running!??!! EDIT: Im trying to show, probably in a poor way, how a biased media and a small minority does not equal the entire group they are in.

Hurray for civility...
FIne, I'm greatly concerned that Palin will be on the ballot. Conservatives swear to me she has no chance but the liberal media keeps saying that conservatives love her, so it must be true for all.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) At what point does 'most' matter? If it is 20 million, but that is only 5%, does that make it ok? After 9-11 you saw mass cheering in Muslim communities around the world including here in the US. As for Yahoo commenters, they are 99% trolls anyway just looking for a fight. Just because there are idiots out there that fall under one group doesn't mean you should blanket the whole group! Or should you start advocating that it's okay for liberals to think all teapartiers love Palin!!11!!
