QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 02:48 AM) White Russians are fantastic...as is a good bloody early in the morning...now I'm getting thirsty... Adding Bailey's makes girls' legs buckle. I have been enjoying some gin and club soda with lime lately too.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 18, 2011 -> 02:31 AM) Hey Russ, what are college kids drinking as shots and mixed drinks right now? Do people still drink Jaegermeister? Red Bull and vodka? Jeesh, I haven't been to a college bar in so long... Tequila, vodka, rum are what we do shots of. We mix those plus whiskey too. Jagerbombs are really popular, I just think it's way to pricey for what jager is. Red bull and vodka is definitely still out there, but most just mix with coke or other pop. And I make white russians or bloody marys for girls all the time that don't like liquor or beer much. Works wonders.

f*** yes Illinois, way to show up on defense. We got a ton of help from ASU with their penalties and their kicker, but I'll take it. Offense needs to work on turnovers though.

Put together your Soxtalk coaching staff
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 16, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) If J4L was a beer vendor, there would be no more beer left to sell... I was actually thinking of this very same topic the other day... I'd make Kalapse the GM, with Balta as assistant GM and CHW42 as assistant assistant GM. My manager would be Fathom, with a pitching coach of Rock Raines and a hitting coach of DocSox24. 1st base coach would be Gingerkid and 3rd base coach would be Lost. Sqwert and Qwerty would be my play-by-play and color men, respectively. Russ would handle player development along with J4L. Steve would be my VP of marketing. Throw yourself in there too, you honestly strike some of the best conversation out of me on this board.

Axelrod and Reed showing they belong
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) We're going to need at least 1 extra bullpen arm next year if no one else is signed if we want to move Sale to the rotation. Or hell, even if we want to stop the rotating door of Gray/Bruney/et al.. There's no good reason to trade Sergio just to try someone else out as the closer...Crain + Santos + Reed + Thornton makes for one possibly monstrously good setup/Closer group. That's assuming the Sox see themselves as contenders next year.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 13, 2011 -> 03:05 AM) Enjoy it while you can, Russ...nothing beats the good ole' college days when you could get s***face plastered for less than the price of a pizza... Haha it's so true. This alum comes back with 6 shots of tequila, and goes "this costs as much as 1 shot of cheap tequila at some places in Chicago." But my body needs a break, I've taken one night off the past week and a half, and I can never seem to have just a few drinks, it always turns into a rager.

If an assistnant is worried about upsetting the boss over big safety concerns then the head coach should be questioned anyways.

10th anniversary thread for 9-11
I was in 6th grade waiting for school to start when we first heard the news that the first tower was struck. We went into class not really knowing anything but every class had the news on and the teachers were speechless, it was really unsettling seeing that. I do remember going home and kind of being exited that something had happened, mainly because I was young and to me at the time living through something on the scale of Pearl Harbor just intrgiued me, well my mom put me in place and that was the first and only time I saw my dad cry until his mother died this last year. I then realized that as intriguing as rewriting history books may be, this was not something I ever wanted to happen during my lifestyle. I matured a lot that day, and even more when we went into Iraw and my dad told me about his friends leaving for Vietnam. He knew I could have friends going overseas and possibly not coming back, it was a tough but life changing conversation.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 10, 2011 -> 06:33 AM) Don't feel too bad. This chick was willing to have a one-night stand before she even asked you, so she obviously isn't so innocent. And any girl that thinks a solid relationship will start under those circumstances is an idiot anyway. After talking to her more and my roommate about her, I feel a lot less bad, she was just a complete dumbass, I have no idea how she even turned in an application to go to school. My friend told her to entertain herself while he went to the bathroom, and points to his protein shake bottle that has that metal ball in it and said it was fun to shake it. She said she was going to just talk to me while she waited, but when he went to the bathroom he heard her actually shaking the bottle.

Rum nigt (5 guys split a handle of rum) is awlays a drunk night, then beer bongs after. But now a roommate who hooks up with chicks every night brought home a freshmen (we're seniors) and she was asking me when we were alone if he was a good guy and doesnt hook up with chicks, well i told her yes he is a good guy to wing him, but this is all he does. I feel so bad, shes so young and innocent and i just straight up lied to her for a friend who honestly is an asshole to girls (but surprise gets a ton).

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 08:02 AM) You are looking at this purely from a natural price perspective. If you look at the greeks, you will see why share price and risk do indeed have a relationship. It is not nearly as simple as you are making it. Now, for a very small time investor, these sorts of analyses may be over the top and not worth the time. Actually, for truly small investors, the problem of share price is mostly about brokerage cost recovery than anything else. Which Optionshouse.com helps out with quite a bit

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 03:46 PM) For traders, share price is considered a part of risk. There is more risk in a share of google versus a share of BAC because of the sheer dollar amounts at play. Otherwise 0-1 type Delta options trades would be considered the riskiest of all, even though you are only better a dollar or so in all likelihood. Yea there's definitely more risk for an investor like myself, where I don't play with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, I have like 12k invested now (which I think is pretty damn good for a 21 yr old, thank you internships!) but I tend to invest a few k each time, and when a share price is even $100 a pop then it gets much riskier for me. I have pretty much been going for decent growth companies that pay good dividends, with a few riskier companies mixed in. I would like to see some return in the short term to help build the portfolio while also having some high reward candidates too.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) Ford would be undervalued if they didn't have 98.5 BILLION in debt on the books. That said, they have been paying that down, but that's a LOT of debt. As it stands, it's valued properly...and I'm a shareholder and have been for close to 10 years -- first I bought in at 9.99. I later bought in at 2.17 or so. Wish I had bought more of the 2$ ones in hindsight. MMM is a great stock, but it's paying a rather low dividend at it's current price. If you want an investment opportunity, invest in one of the many tobacco companies, Reynolds American (RAI), for example, pays a near 6% dividend at a P/E of 16. These are what I call "moral" stocks, however...while I have no issues with investing in tobacco companies, I won't invest in any big oil companies...because I despise them, despite knowing that it's a bad business decision on my part. The reason I tell people tobacco companies are a solid investment with a long term outlook is because China is getting hooked like the US was in the 50's-70's...only there are over 1 billion customers there, compared to what we had here. Hmm that is a bit concerning but at the same time I am loving their ability to grow internationally, so I think long term it's a solid investment. MMM's dividend is a bit lower at that price, but is still solid, plus they do a ton of business with the company I work for so I like to have confidence there I'll have to look into that, I currently am less morally aware in my investments and more into making money. I have a decent chunk of my portfolio in BP, so I guess that tells you how much moral thought I put into it. I would rather make some money now and grow my funds and then be a bit more conscious of the products later.
