  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) The college isn't forcing those degrees on them, so they shouldn't get pissed at the college, they should get pissed at themselves for paying to learn a useless skill set. I don't feel sorry for people like that. They fall into the "love what you do no matter what the drawbacks are" category of bulls*** that I hear spewed all the time. If you love what you do that much, don't complain about the money...and if you do complain about the money, it means you actually "love" money more than what it is you ended up doing, so maybe you should have thought about that before. People have poor planning skills and no future mindset, and that's their own problem...not societies. Society has created opportunity, a whole bunch of opportunity, just because you chose the wrong one in terms of what they pay, "because you love it", don't then turn around and blame society for creating "too much choice" for you. After all, you could have been lucky enough to have been born in China, where you could work at Foxxconn building iPhones for 2$ a day, instead. I was going to post the same thing. You have every right and freedom to go after the major you want to (well, as long as you qualify), but don't go complaining if you chose an obscure major that doesn't have much in job perspectives. The school should have resources available to tell students what to expect, but ultimately it's up to the students to actually take this info into account.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 09:33 AM) I agree, I've never once used my actual degree. It's in the IT field, which I'm in, but my degree is in programming, and I've never once programmed professionally. That said, my core knowledge is still in IT, and marketable. Your degree may not matter once you have a job, but it sure as hell matters when applying for jobs.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) If I could steal any GM in baseball if have plucked the Rays. And I believe Friedman said 'no'.
  4. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) Occasionally I get the feeling people here have a beer or two while posting, as well J4L: That's why he is an awesome poster.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) ChiTribRogers Phil Rogers Ricketts' spending on draft and international players in June/July/August was a game-changer for #Cubs. Theo probably declines otherwise. If Epstein is given the money for that and has a $100mm+ payroll then he'll succeed.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 10:02 PM) How is Unser not everyone's favorite SOA character? You know this is just going to lead to his death, but he's selfless in about every situation I can recall. f***ing Juice, I can't believe he went that route with it. But yea, Unser is the guy that helps everyone but is probably the biggest sucker because you just know he's gonna get killed by someone. This was an episode to remind the viewers that these guys are bad, you may root for them but they are bad people.
  7. I went from bad phone to worse phone today, as my old one died on me (Samsung Intensity 1). Now I use my dad's old LG phone, and I miss my qwerty board. Can't wait to go fulltime and have my company pay for my phone...
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) Ay, NOBODY is complaining about him being a boring interview. This was all brought up by Greg posting how he wants to buy his manager a beer, and also posting that he loves Ozzie because he's at least entertaining.
  9. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/post/1...-with-a-useless Um, Classical Studies? Just what the *ck DID you think you would get a job doing? http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/post/11300019170 Ok, you are complaining that you pay too much in taxes, and want (tax) money help rom the government, who has to tax people (you and others, the rich alone wont cover it) to spend ANYTHING. So, should they raise your taxes? And, you are 26 and already making $52k a year, STFU already! There are others, TONS with misspelled words that can't be attributed to fat fingers typing like me, and so on. Yea I gotta agree here, you are free to go after any major you want to (or can go for) but don't go complaining if your degree doesn't intrigue recruiters. And that second one, your paying $1000 in rent!? For a place over 30 miles each way from your place!?
  10. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) I could see AJ end up with Ozzie in Florida, they have a good relationship, he handles pitchers well, they have been looking for someone to solidify their catching position since the inception of the franchise, and they will be bumping up the payroll to move into the new stadium. PK could end up in LA for either team, San Francisco, Seattle, or one of the teams that misses out on Pujols/Fielder. It is a common percpetion that PK only wants to go out west, but if he has the chance to win it may change his mind. The Giants would be the best fit, though I am not sure the Sox and Giants match up that well so a third team would probably need to get involved. They just spent big money (for them) for their starting catcher in John Buck.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Management that I work with would prefer that people keep their facebook private in order to protect the company. EDIT: And when I'm hiring someone I prefer that their social media sites are private. I wholly agree, but you know how some people think....
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) The answer is apparently nope, but #28 is pretty damn close. The number 28 is close, the votes aren't though.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 03:08 PM) I think it would be awesome. If Paulie is in the field, then how does he call for a pitcher to warmup? Or to replace a pitcher? I also think there would be a ton of jealousy/fighting that goes on over Paulie being in that position.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) LOL. Not a chance. Recruiters that have spoken to business organizations here at U of I have mentioned that there could be some concerns over people "hiding" their personal life, but most of the younger generation recruiters know this is commonplace now and dont worry about it. But to say that no recruiter would think twice about it would be silly, just because there are some stupid recruiters out there.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) I'm totally OK with KW hiring a Yes-man. FO and on-field management being on the same page is way more important than some kind of ego-driven micromanager. Ventura won't be a "Yes-man" it's not in his personality.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 9, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) So it ND back in to the rankings this week? 4-2 record. Wins over #23 Michigan State, Pitt, Purdue, Air Force. 2 losses came to South Florida and #12 Michigan. Nope, and not even that close.
  17. AJ f***ING JENKINS. He may have had bad coverage on him in this game, I dont know since Im just listening on the radio, but he is a flat out playmaker.

QUOTE (NIUSox @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) Ron Swanson is the best character on TV He is the main reason why I watch the show, it's good besides him but he makes it great.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:50 AM) I keep thinking this as well. I feel like Juice could go to Jax/Clay, tell them everything about the cop and his being informed he's half-black (little white lie like he didn't know). I don't think they'd care, but who knows. Remember, as much as we like the Sons, they're very bad dudes! I'm really enjoying the show on the whole, though, per the usual. I don't think they'd care because they would do what is best for the club, which is obviously throwing the police off base and not having Juice go behind them and causing drama with the Mayans. They are bad dudes, but they are actually quite smart. Juice is in a similar position as Jax was last season, and he needs to work with the club to f*** with the cops, not keep this s*** secret.

So Im trying to plan a spring break trip for a bunch of seniors, and we thought South Padre Island, TX would be awesome to go to, so I found a great place on the beach for a reasonable price but when I emailed them for more details they said if we need a parent present, even though all of us would be 21. Im trying to keep the costs low, and renting a house seems like the best choice, but any ideas on how to convince them or alternatives for us?
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 01:33 AM) How many years ago was that? I thought he was good this year. Had decent numbers, not great. He's definitely worth being our starting rightfielder next season IMO. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 11:33 PM) No knowledge of baseball economics whatsoever.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) I don't think it's fair to call the guy a headcase. It seemed to me he actually tries when he's on the field unlike his zombie-like teammates (there are some exceptions; Pierre, DeAza hustled a lot IMO). He hit 24 homers with 77 rbi in 118 games. Not great, but if Rios put up these numbers he'd be worshiped. Carlos had .340 OBP and .499 SLG. Compared to some guys on our team he was Albert Pujols-like. I agree we probably can't get much for our all-star but he's not a bum either. Do you know what a headcase even is? Hint: a guy who punches his own bat during a playoff push.
