QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 03:25 AM) That's a contradiction, Russ. You need to pick one or the other. Either you're okay with being friends and can handle the boyfriend thing (since you broke up with her), or you distance yourself, move on and admit that you can't be friends with her. Yea I see what youre saying, I guess Im fine with being friends with her but Im probably taking s*** the wrong way.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 12:55 AM) I wouldn't be surprised if Sale is on the team as the closer for 2011. They will need one next year and I don't think they will buy one. I would be 99% surprised if Sale is NOT a starter next year. We need him in the rotation for the future, and even being the closer will only hurt him. If he proves he cant handle the innings as a starter, then the Sox will have serious discussions of moving him to the pen fulltime.

Relationship Advice Thread
My ex from senior yr in high school through my sophomore year in college (I'm a junior now, we broke up about a month before summer) has now been texting me alot after we barely spoke since the break up. I was the one who broke up with her (long distance year round is a b**** and we grew apart) and she hated me for it but I don't know if she is just trying to be friends (which is fine with me, I never hated her just didn't lvoe her anymore) or if she is trying to f*** with me because she texts me stating that she's gonna be on my campus, so I say lets grab dinner or something (said it like any friend would) and she says ok, but then texts me and says her boyfriend is the one driving and she doesn't know about planning, mind you she never told me she had a boyfriend (not that she needed to but it seemed like she made it a point to tell me that she was coming to town but wouldnt see me and that she has a boyfriend now). Honestly I just want to forget about her now but she keeps texting me about how shes going camping with her boyfriend this weekend.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 07:24 PM) Good. I was starting to get worried. I never wanted Jackson under any circumstance. Although I will concede he pitched well for us in the 9 starts or whatever it was. I felt that with the Peavey injury and the Sox still having a fighters chance at that point that getting a starter was a good idea, and Jackson is a big time arm to acquire, but I've already stated my distaste for what we gave up. My thinking was that Jackson probably would atleast be competent underneath Cooper, but probably the same as Hudson overall the rest of the season, but I saw Hudson staying and Freddy going to long relief because he looked cooked. Than after the season you evaluate your pitching staff and trade one of the higher salary guys, whether it be another dump of Jackson (because apparently you can find a sucker of a GM to take on that salary even when the pitcher isnt doing well at all) or someone like Buehrle.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 07:05 PM) It's like we're dating or something. Have we disagreed on one aspect of this trade? Throw in fathom and we can have a 3-some. I think the only thing we've differed on is that I believe you stated that going after Jackson at all was a bad idea whereas I believe that he was a good target if you got him as a salary dump only. But I think our mutual love for the Phillies organization makes up for that.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:48 PM) It's going to take more than a year because Hudson is dirt cheap for the next 6 years and there's no guarantee will be able to resign Jackson after '11. You also have to factor in the opportunity cost lost with the additional $8 million Jackson has next year. If that detracts from the Sox being able to bring back Konerko or another FA than you have to account for that.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) You know better than anybody how I feel about the trade. We've been tag-teaming this abomination since it happened. I was just responding to Sqwert's claim of what the trade meant for this season. Haha yea, it was directed more towards Sqwert.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) How was Hudson MLB ready with us? We walked the park everytime he got a start. Maybe because he never showed a tendency to walk a lot of batters in the minors, and was clearly jittery in his first few starts.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 11:20 AM) It made sense only in that Jackson has been around a few years and Hudson is a rookie. So it was just automatic to naturally think Jackson could help more. It sure as hell couldn't have been based on Jackson's performance to that point. Yes, I know. Coop saw something he could fix. Yadda, yadda. Then Coop should be put on notice (I know he won't be) if Jackson doesn't have a career year next year. Trading Hudson for Jackson was a mistake. Trading for Jackson without any salary relief when he should have been considered a semi-salary dump and giving up your best young MLB ready starter is ridiculous. Acquiring Jackson wasn't that bad of a move, it's the fact that what we gave up and got in return (no salary relief) will haunt this team this offseason.

White Sox targeting Carl Crawford
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) Has it occured to anyone, through all the anger, that PART of the reason we fall short on free agents is that the team is willing to pay what they see as the value of the player, and not overpay? That its an organizational philosophy? Because I find that much more likely than the idea that they do it for publicity. This team has been upper echelon in payroll for 5 seasons in a row now, its not like they don't spend money, so it seems silly to try to "fake" interest in signing people. People here seem to be letting their frustrations with the results of 2010 color their judgment. The whole publicity stunt thing just doesn't make sense. I'm sure it's a thought that crosses their mind. I doubt Kenny would have someone throw a rumor like that around, I don't see him wasting his time with stuff like that but I'm sure that if they did miss out on someone they would want people to know that they tried to save grace a bit, just look at the Torri Hunter situation.

Roy Halladay throws a no-hitter versus Cincy in Game 1 of the NLDS
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 12:19 AM) Halladay is a superior pitcher, but I wouldn't suggest that Peavy is a mediocre pitcher by any stretch of the imagination. Peavy's injury was brutal to the Sox, but if he comes back and remains healthy next year, the Sox are going to be dangerous simply because of how much pitching they have. I think we learned from this past year that the on paper the staff may look great, but they are as streaky as they come.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 12:05 AM) Does Loyola, Roosevelt or DePaul offer night classes or continuing education classes to get a certificate or Master's degree that would be conducive to your employment or family situation? I believe DePaul offers weekend and/or night classes, I could be confusing their schedule with NW's though.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) We simply can't get FA quality players. We lost out on Tori Hunter, Miguel Cabrera, Chone Figgins, Matsuai, even an aging Vladimir Guerrero. The only way we can get quality players is the way we aqcuired Thome, Rios, Peavy, or Carlos Quentin (not so quality Griffey Junior, Manny). Albert Belle was the last stud we go in free agency. Hell, we couldn't even get an older Johny Damon. Free Agents just don't come here. No, we didn't have the tools to trade for him.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) Go to a school where you can get a graduate assistantship. I'm getting 66% of my tuition paid for in the first year, and if they invite me back to be a GA in the second year, they'll pay 75% of year two's tuition. All for 10-12 hrs per week helping a professor with research. You probably have to give up your fulltime job then, and that's pretty costly by itself.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (pktmotion @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) Re-Sign: Konerko,Putz,Vizquiel, Castro, Jones. Bye: Kotsay, AJ, Jenks, Garcia. Explore trade for Jackson. He was dominant while he was here, which had to raise his value.(plus short-term deal, Boras ) if not then Floyd, don't trade Danks.* Explore trade for Quentin, Santos, or Thornton. Sign high end (RF or DH), low-end(RP) (completely interchangeable) my thoughts: Adam Dunn & Randy Choate *Wish we could get a mulligan on a Peavy and get Cliff Lee The number of years committed will be dramatically different. You're still down a catcher, and you're payroll is still incredibly high.

Financial News
The stock of the company I worked for over the summer went from around $100 a share to $120 in the past few months. I just got into investing this summer and apparently I missed an opportunity staring right at me.

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) Martin was tied to alcohol and excessive partying. After watching him last year though, I want no part of him. Yuck, well that ruins it for me unless it was stemming from him wanting out of there (which doesn't really excuse that behavior as a prof. baseball player but I would take a one year risk with him).

Trade Candidates for Kenny this offseason
If we could get him at $2-3 million a year for 1 or 2 years, I wouldn't mind him. His defense has still been good and if offense may recover a bit in the Cell. Even still, his offense wasn't much worse overall than AJ's and his defense would be better.

Rick Hahn
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) Even the Yankees will bring up young players through their system as they go. I think quite a bit of their bullpen is home grown, Philip Hughes, Robinson Cano, and Brett Gardner are there too. I think it would be smart for about the next 2-5 years for the team to cut spending on the MLB team by about $5-8 million and use that money on amateur players and finding ways to develop them into quality MLB players. The Sox haven't drafted and developed a star player in a really long time (Beckham could certainly get there, but he is definitely not a star player at this juncture). I brought that up a few months ago and got slammed on here for that. The Sox have been drafting much better recently, but they need to invest more in not only the draft but in development too. An international presence would be nice too (not just Cuba).

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) It ain't easy. At least I worked somewhere I could get part of it paid for. Im hoping the place I interned with last year and will be back again this summer will hire me fulltime because they cover $5000 a year, and anything over that they cover 50%. Helps out quite a bit.
