  1. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) I don't think Dan Hudson will ever mow people down like EJax. Jerry Reinsdorf even said the trade was "a no-brainer" on The Club. So don't blame KW if you are unhappy with the trade, blame the collective body of highly paid men in our front office. I like it so far, next year could be special. Hudson probably wont ever strike out hitters like Jackson does, but that doesnt mean he isn't or can't be as good of a pitcher. And I would never trust Reinsdorf with player personnel decisions, that's not his job. And if the staff really did think it was a no brainer than I firmly believe that it should be a no brainer to clean house.
  2. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Sep 18, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) Earlier you said that pitching 'while in pennant race' is as garbage as 'he is doing it in the NL', how about Javy Vazquez, isn't he a perfect example of both? Some can't handle the pressure, while I'm not saying it is the case with Hudson it very well could be, we'll never know. Or maybe some players need a few starts to get used to MLB hitters. Really, Hudson didnt get hit all that hard, the defense behind him was pretty bad and between that and his walks and a few dinky hits he gave up too many runs. But he was throwing pitches that werent getting hit hard, and he was missing quite a few bats too. To me, that shows great potential, and at the time it was very reasonable to see that he was a rookie who didnt have the usual control that he has had in the past.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) Max Scherzer is sick. He's completely dominated since his little demotion to the minors. Couple that with Austin Jackson, an AL ROY candidate and spectacular defensive CF, and I think it's safe to say the Tigers killed that 3-team trade. I ripped on my friends from Michigan who hated that trade. They did the whole "Oh, Granderson is our boiiiiii, he is our Tiger," routine that I hate. I would trade anybody on the Sox if it meant getting better, end of story. Do I like certain players more than others? Of course. But the team >>>> any individual player.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) The Phillies are amazing. They've become the modern day Braves. They've got a stacked ML roster and somehow a loaded system, even though they've traded for 3 aces in the last 15 months. f*** the Twins. The Phils are the team I wish to emulate.
  5. QUOTE (jhonnydanks @ Sep 17, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) some of you need to revisit the thoughts you had before 2005, when you would give anything for just ONE world series title to cherish in our lifetime. go crack a cold one and pop in the DVD. there will be another season, there will ALWAYS be another season. it didn't work out this year, what can you say? i'll have kenny's back for life. sure he did some things good, some things not so good, but he tries to give us a chance and i can't fault him for that. don't stop get it get it I'll let you hold onto your glory days, meanwhile when you're on your couch watching Nascar dreaming of that last TD pass you threw Ill be in my nice comfy house, with a great wife and awesome job.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) Working near Camp Pendleton this week. Artillery shells going off in the background is a bit unsettling. Do you try to sell lemonade to the tanks as they pass by?
  7. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) Is that where they have the Marijuana and hookers!? wear protection my friend......wear protection.....like eye goggles and such from the weed smoke......you know what I mean... weiorjlkdsgjoi
  8. Alley almonds. Pretty good episode, not their best but still very funny.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) Good thread, guys. But I will say if the MVP is going to go to a player from a non playoff team then it's Miguel Cabrera without hesitation for me. He's been better than Konerko at, well, everything. 100% agreed, I just used Konerko as an example throughout my posts.
  10. Just got an offer to go to Rotterdam, netherlands. Soo happy i got that offer
  11. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) Which is basically what Rex just said. You would have been fine if you were clean in the first place. It was a violation on long distance phone calls I believe, which may be the weakest violation. Was it wrong, yes, but I would guess 95% of schools would have some sort of tiny violation like that and to be called out wrongly by some sleazeball for something Illinois obviously didnt do is wrong.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) That's really my only regret from college, that I didn't look into one of those programs for a semester. Why did you apply? Ive only been legitimately out of the country once (I went twice to Canada but I dont count that) and that was to Italy before my senior year in high school. Ever since than I have wanted to study abroad, and everyone I have talked to said that it was their best time in college. I applied to Hong Kong, Rotterdam, and London, so any place I go to will have English speaking people, while also having a vast different culture (London less so in terms of culture, but a much more international experience than Urbana).
  13. So Im usually a pretty patient person, but Im freaking out over the Study Abroad application I turned in yesterday. This year will be the first that not everyone who applied will get to go due to high demand and I really want to know where, if at all, I got into.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) Simultaneously or one at a time? Theyre all doing that awkward together wave that you see on local commercials.
  15. QUOTE (BearingPro @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) Not many home grown players in the line up tonight. I want kids drafted and taught to play baseball the correct way...bunting, fielding, situational hitting, running bases. It's difficult to teach castoffs the "White Sox Way" when they bring baggage with them. Individual talent exists but the players need to become a team, doing whats right when its required. If you are happy with the State of the White Sox , I'm happy for you. I want more. I could give a f*** if our team is was homegrown or all acquired. We do need to keep drafting well (our past 2-3 drafts have been good, but they need to continue to improve), so that we can keep guys our trade for stud players. If we have to draft a Longoria to get a player like that, fine, if we have to draft well to trade for a guy like that, great. Bottom line is that we dont have much bullets to fight with right now and we dont have good replacements for expensive/old players.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) I told my stepdaughter that if my car is still in good condition when she is old enough to drive (in 3 years) then she can have mine and I will buy another but she has to find a way to pay for the increase I'll have on my car insurance. Get a job, do extra work around the house, something. Depending on the state, that can be a s***load of money. But yea thats fair IMO. When living in Michigan my brother's insurance was about $2500 a year for his first few years, and he was a good student and everything. Im still stunned by that number.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) I don't care about the bulls***, "He's only in the NL argument." This Hudson story is sad. One of the few prospects we have worth a s*** in recent years and bam, we trade him for another pitcher who makes way more money. Stupid s***. As much as we b**** about the same things on here over and over ... bunting, Kotsay, Thome, Jenks ... I'd be all for thread after thread lamenting the loss of Hudson. Oh I forgot. We don't care because he's only doing it in the NL. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78783 J4Life and I, plus a few others, have been arguing the whole time that losing Hudson will come back to haunt us big time, mostly because of the expense of Jackson and losing the cheap, quality 4/5th starter that we need to balance out the expensive rotation.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) I'm asking if you're seriously holding it against Rush Limbaugh (and the way you did it) because he jokingly says she has ass-ets? And that she's booty-licious? So a major pop icon can write an entire SONG with that line, but god forbid the Evil Conservative One says it! And I dunno if I'd argue that she was asking for it, but come on. She dresses like that in front of 50 or so 20-30 year old, uber-testosterone filled football players. What did she think, they were going to be awed by her reporting skills? GMAB. Doesn't mean what they did was appropriate, but you she should have had common sense to know what kind of reaction she was going to get. I do hope we hold our political talk show hosts to a higher standard than rappers and other artists.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) Well, to each their own I guess, but I see the MVP as the player who is the most valuable to their team, and if your team didn't make the playoffs, then you couldn't have provided THAT much value to them. Miggy just doesn't add much value to a team, I see ur point now.
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) No, the point is right now they are a lock for the playoffs. But without Cano, they are barely in a playoff position, and fighting to make it. That's quite a difference. But whether the Sox are 7 games out or 13 games out doesn't really matter because either way they have almost no chance at the playoffs. Your comparing teams more than players then.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Then the problem you run into is one of positioning/defense as well. That all ties into how much value does this player have, and if they are a stud defender than of course they bring more to the table. It's like does this person steal bases too, or can they make it home from second on a flare to the OF. And you'll have that problem whether you think the playoffs ties into it or not.
  22. And if you dont know how well a team would perform with said player, than wouldnt the raw stats then be the best way to determine how much of an impact that player really was.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) You see, but that's the whole thing about it. You don't KNOW the Yankees would still make the playoffs without Cano, just like you don't KNOW the White Sox would be crap without Konerko. But in the end, Cano's team is making the playoffs, so you can assume that he helped them get there. You can only assume that Paulie helped the Sox keep the division close until the final couple weeks of the season. But one of those guys is playing in October, and that's Cano. And actually, if you want to use statistics, Cano has a 6.2 WAR, which means they would theoretically have 6 less wins without Cano. Take 6 wins away, and that leaves the Yankees only 1/2 game ahead of the Red Sox for 2nd place, and only .5 games ahead of the Red Sox and White Sox for the wild card. So in fact, without Cano they would be fighting for a playoff spot. Did you just prove my point? Without Cano the Yankees are stil leading the Wildcard, without Konerko the Sox are 13 games out. So why exactly does it matter whether the team actually makes the playoffs? (And Im not saying Konerko deserves it over Cano, I just dont think it should be contingent on playoffs).
  24. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Without Miguel Cabrera, the Tigers are fighting with the Pirates for the top pick in next year's draft. Exactly, making the playoffs doesnt show how much value a player added to the team.
  25. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Not really because some players are more valuable to one team over another. For instance, Manny Ramirez had no value to the Dodgers anymore because their team was tanking, while he was extremely valuable to the White Sox, Rays, and Rangers. Manny was not becoming a better hitter by coming here, but he was valued more our team than the Dodgers. So how is Cano more valuable than Konerko?? Without Konerko we're crap, without Cano the Yankees are still in the playoffs most likely.
