  1. From what I can tell, the arguments boil down to: Constitution vs. Emotional Uprise Am I wrong? Am I missing something on either side?
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Seriously, am I the only one that sees why the people of New York wouldn't want this? Building a mosque (not a community center. It's a community center as much as a catholic church is a community center. Do you really think catholics or jews or athiests will be welcome with open arms?) near ground zero (which as I stated above, is not some 10 foot square plot of land, but encompassed practically all of lower manhattan) isn't slightly disrespectful to the worst attack on american soil? Just a little? Really? Isnt it slightly disrespectful to the First Amendment denying US Citizens the right to worship on private property? I do understand how people who were directly effected by 9/11 would be upset by this, because it would be much more personal and emotional (not saying it isnt for other people, but its a whole new level for those who lost someone close to them on that day). That said, I really wish these people would realize that in order to prevent these type of events we cannot continue with the current relations we have. How we change that Im not sure, but I do know that very few are happy with where we are at currently.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) It's not the greatest of comparisons, but it makes sense to me. These guys, purposefully or not, want to build a center to worship their religion, which was the basis for the attacks, on the very spot where the attacks occurred. Just like wanting to place a monument to celebrate the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. It lacks all common sense and social tact, and IMO the people who don't like the idea are completely justified in thinking that way. You do realize that Christians have killed in the name of their "God" before too, does that mean we should restrict their ability to worship freely for what a few crazy people did (and really, religion was an outclause for them, just like how some Christians who were murderers in the past did, they used "God" as their excuse for their f***ed up actions). And whose to say that the mosque is built to be a common place for free religion and understanding, much like a monument would be there to honor those who had fallen due to the horror of the past, but iis marking the progress (yes I know, that dreaded word) of the people and how we have remembered and learned from the situation.
  4. QUOTE (SnB @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) it's not often that a 7-3 road trip ends your season. Well, when you blows games early in the season, then lose games to your biggest rival in the 9th inning and give them a huge boost, this is the result. Where no matter what you do, you got outplayed throughout the whole season.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) Damn, check out this dividend http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=AGNC (i don't think it's always that high but yeah... that's a lot) Google Finance is showing that they indeed have paid a dividend of $1.4 since the beginning of 2009.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 11:20 AM) Wow. It's the same as someone using Tea-Partiest in a derogatory way. **Dodges Kap's almost guaranteed shot at me for even mentioning Tea Party**
  7. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:28 AM) It's another example where Kenny exhibits defense is the least of priorities when it comes to players. I never understood this acquisition at all. I guess he was one of those guys who use to hurt the Sox. Well he's still doing it. Note to Kenny: No more players from losing organizations especially the Royals. If a player has talent, I dont care where he comes from. But the Sox have to evaluate talent better, that's the bottom line. Stop looking at what a player does against us, and look at what he does against everyone. Their theory that he could be a decent defensive 3b blew up on them, and that's a huge question mark to go into the season with, especially when you are weak at DH and LF to begin with.
  8. Agreed, we probably would have to eat part of his contract, and what a terrible player evaluation on him by the Sox. The Sox probably wont make a move because of his salary, in their opinion it wont kill them. It will effect how the rest of the roster plays out and our flexibility in FA and trades.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) I would think we would just simply dump Teahen or trade him to the Pirates and pay all but $500,000 of his salary. If not dump Teahen ... can the White Sox justify keeping him and making him a once a week guy? It's obvious no matter where you put him, he is not a good enough defensive player to be on the roster of a so called contender. Who cares about the money? Just dump him or demote him to a Sunday lineup guy. I am assuming the answer to my question is we have to start Teahen because of his salary, just as we had to keep pitching Linebrink cause of his guaranteed salary. I'm saying after the Deadspin story reporting the Sox and all teams making zillions of dollars, eating Teahen's salary should be a no brainer. Money is in every decision, baseball teams have a finite amount they can spend or are willing to spend. It's a business, for better or for worse, but it is. Still, a player has to fit the model of the team, thus Teahen on the Pirates makes little sense unless they feel they can improve his game enough to trade him later. They want to go young, and while Teahen isnt really that old he doesnt really fit their MO right now (atleast from what I can tell). A team that may be interested in the offseason is the Yankees, where they can take a risk like Teahen, just like Swisher, and put him in a utility role which really favors him more.
  10. Ill be keeping this post in mind in about 3.5 months.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) Isn't that a really sad state of affairs? Only in Amerikkka, my friend, only in Amerikkka. Listen, I got this billy club, I say we hang out by some inconspicious places with some sort of signs out front of churches and schools that day. Let's see what kinda action we get, kapisce? We gots ta take care of what's rightfully ours. Like it isnt true for Muslims either, who are being threatened and cannot go to their places of worship too. It's gotta stop on both sides. Period.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) bumping this thread because I liked it. I ended up selling this stock for $268. I got tired of it going up and down, it'd go up into the high 260s (peaking at 273 once, its all-time high) every time Apple released a new product or had some news but then it'd go right back down to 240 or so. Since they don't pay a dividend there's no point in me sitting around waiting for it to appreciate, especially when there have already been 2 points where I could've sold the 5 shares for the same gain. Still, I made 15% or so on that in 6 months (gotta check my math but I think I'm close)... much more than it would've been if I had it sitting in a savings account or even the mutual fund it was in. I just decided to buy a bunch of Verizon shares instead... I had no idea that they paid such a huge dividend. I blame Y2HH for not telling me this, frankly. Now at least the 2 companies I have are actually doing something, BP used to pay a really good dividend but that was before it literally went up in flames and had to suspend dividends to pay for all the damage. It'd be silly to b**** about this (but of course a lot are). Vz is one of the stocks that I bought in my first stock purchase and has been great. Dividend is nice and has pretty steadily gone up.
  13. Anybody get Kane and Lynch 2? I loved the first one, but Im heeded by the shortness of the game, probably just gonna wait til it's like $30 or less.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) Milk steak, boiled over hard. Wih. A side of jelly beans, raw of course.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) I cannot believe what already went down. I f***ing love this program. So I jsut caught about 3/4 of the show. Oh. my. god. Im going to be rusty on names so feel free to correct me/fill in names where I forgot. But, Im a bit rusty from last season, but jeez this season may top last season which was one of the best seasons of a show ever IMO.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 11:53 PM) Wow. They have 300 level Badminton? Dont hate, it's a real major, a piece of paper says so!
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) I will. I usually sit in the 2nd row, but walked in a little late. Was right behind you in the retro Sox tee if you saw me. Uhh, Kidnt. Yeah, funny dude, but I'm not taking anything from his classes. Exactly, he just rambles on the whole time. He says we cover alot, but really he just talked alot. His whole class can be condensed into about 15 minutes.

QUOTE (Disco72 @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) Nobody posting yet on Sons of Anarchy? Wow...what a season opener! Some stuff I never expected. This season looks absolutely incredible. WTF!? How did I forget that it was opening! Well, that ruins my night, now I have to wait for it.
  20. Just have them watch the very first episode, "The Gang Gets Racist." Honestly, it's my favorite show of all time (Im only 20, so give me a break oldies). The characters are just amazing, especially Charlie and Frank. I love how Charlie does mostly improv, and how Danny Devito apparently doesnt exist anymore, just Frank Reynolds.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) That'd be it. Figured it was you. Yea if it was all the way in the back thats definitely me. Say hi sometime, be nice to meet another Soxtalker in person. What do you think of Kindt? He cracks me up, but an hour and a half of him just talking about the same thing over and over just drains me.
  22. bigruss replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
Definitely depends on what level you are talking about. There are some who pretend to be, just for the attention/wave of support. There are some who actually make quite a bit of sense. And then there are some who are crazy. So basically they are like any other political party.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Someone is creeping soxtalk in my class right now. Hmm, which class? If it's BADM 300 it may be me.
