  1. In terms of dating a person with children, my current girlfriend's biological dad was in prison for most of her life and what she does remember was him being an asshole to her mother, so she didnt have a father until her stepdad came into her life when she was around 10. He is a great guy, and she loves him (and so does her younger sister). Problem is though, he didnt want to be an enforcer early on in their first years living together, as he didnt feel it was his place. In the past two years though he was starting to bring out his opinions more and trying to enforce them and be a real dad (gf is at college now, and her sister is a senior in HS). Well, this didnt go over so well with her sister or her mom and now they are divorced. So my advice is if you are going to be put in the position of a father figure, make sure you have the ability to have your say. I dont expect kids to just forget their real father and replace them if they dont want to, but alot of drama can come up if you dont position yourself early on in your ideals and rules.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) Sounds like you need new friends! Haha yeah if my friends didnt know about the movie I would show it to them. Ill be at a meeting or something and a scene will pop in my mind from it (or another classic like Young Frankenstein or Airplane) and Ill mention it and only get blank stares, then Ill ask if anyone has seen Blazing Saddles or whatever movie I quoted and they will say no.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) I'm 24 and all of my friends know and love it. I also voted it #1 in the comedy poll. Huh, well its probably like 8/10 people I ask will say they havent seen it. Probably half of those havent even heard of the movie.
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) How is Kotsay a bad contract? Wasn't he the only one productive for a couple of weeks last year? A few good weeks does not make a player good. Kotsay is a decent bench piece and 1.5 mill isnt terrible, but it could be used in better ways IMO.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) Forgotten? No way. It was voted the best comedy of all time on Soxtalk recently. I am amazed everyday by the number of people my age who have never seen Blazing Saddles. My generation as in the current college/high school people.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Shouldn't it be "Hedley Lamarr"? Cant fit that in the alloted character amount.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) Blazing Saddles? Yup. A forgotten movie in my generation, its really sad.

So my dad and aunt are really into the whole trivia thing and go to bars to play once a week (they play under the name Hedley, bonus points for anyone who knows the reference) and I always have a blast when I play. I recently started to play 1 vs. 100 also on Xbox 360, that is also quite fun. Anybody else do the whole bar trivia thing or play 1 vs. 100?
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 01:26 PM) I really can't wait for this show to be aired in the US. David Cross, Will Arnett, and directed by Spike Jonze. It will be phenomenal. link to youtube video They have embedding disabled. Hell yes.
  12. Wow, Im having a blast following Teahen through his twitter, he seems like a great guy and his dogs are hilarious and very cute.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 01:55 AM) BA had a nice prospect chat with Jared Mitchell today. I just submitted a question to Jared as it is still going on I think. Hopefully he can answer it, but I'm not holding my breath... I really like his responses, hopefully he pans out because not only would his talent be great to have on the team but he seems really down to earth and seems to have a good personality.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) I have a program installed that pays me a few cents per search as long as I appear to be using it normally (and not just like repeating the same search over and over). You just earned me about $.15. Whoa, cool. How did you get that?
  15. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) Pierre hit .308, put up a .365 OBP, and stole 30 bases in 380 ABs last season. Thanks for playing. Wow, just wow. Look at his month by month splits, he is not that player, he had one really good month and then was back to his career averages.
  16. So just throwing this out there, if you could would you have signed Damon at 2 yrs 14 mill earlier in the offseason and not traded for Pierre, stick Damon at leadoff and resign Thome or another DH with the money you would now be spending on Damon (someone like Nick Johnson)? I would like that lineup alot more, even though the Damon in LF would be pretty bad.
  17. Back in the day the team would supply bats, and I fell in love with this one that my team had. My coach jokingly promised me that if we repeated our championship then he would give it to me. Went 6 for 8 in a three game series to win that championship, including 2 triples. Only had 8 official ABs because the first game I went 2-3 with those two triples, they walked me the rest of the way. That same week we had an allstar game and blasted a homerun to take the lead. Two years later, we played at a park that was a rectangle with two fields at opposite corners (Ridgeland Park in Oak Park if anyone knows it). This was a conversation my mom and dad had: Mom (really excited): He hit it on the infield! Dad: Umm, why is that so exciting? Mom: I mean, the other field's infield, he walked to a homerun!

QUOTE (SnB @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) Murphy's in champaign wins my approval for best burger ANYWHERE. Just went there last night for the first time to grab dinner with some friends, got the Megaburger and fries for $5. Good burger but not the best Ive had. Very solid though.
  20. Ive actually been digging Lays Baked Southwestern Barbeque chips. Only problem is that I eat way too much of them whenever I get them.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) One bag of salt and pepper chips, one bag of salt and vinegar chips, and the soda/pop of your choice. Touche.
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) If he stays healthy this year and puts up good numbers he should be able to land a multi-year deal next offseason, there's a big difference between 37 and 38 in major league baseball. If he takes that 2 year deal it'll be the last of his career, a 1 year pact worth equal annual salary sets him up for an opportunity for one last multi-year deal after proving his worth away from Yankee Stadium in 2010. Of course there are nice neighborhoods around Detroit but living in a place where the major metropolitan area is a war zone is a huge turnoff and I would understand if it were a deal breaker for his wife. Hell, for all we know his wife doesnt like going to the cities or it isnt a priority and she is just fine in a suburban area. Really not trying to pick a fight on this topic, just stating that location may not be as big of an issue as stated.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 06:07 PM) Is there anything better than a bag of sea salt and cracked pepper potato chips? I think not. Two bags of it, and a Coke.
  24. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) Given that Johnny's already made ~$100M in his career, I'm thinking $5M-$7M and spending 1 year in Chicago/Atlanta then finding a new home for the 2011 season and another ~$5M is FAR more attractive than $14M and living in that s*** hole that is Detroit for 2 years. If you go 20-30 minutes outside of Detroit there are extremely nice neighborhoods, you just wont have a nice city nearby. Locations like Grosse Pointe Park are right next to the city and have a lot of wealth, and places like Ann Arbor are under an hour away to Comerica Park. There just isnt really a good place in the city, atleast not for a multimillionaire.

So its still a bit away, but I am thinking about studying abroad Spring 2011 (my junior second semester). My options seem to be: Hong Kong Singapore Seoul, Korea Melbourne, Aust. Sydney, Aust. Vienna, Austria Paris, FR Dublin, Ireland Milan, Italy Rotterdam, Netherlands Oslo, Norway Barcelona, Spain London, England Manchester, England I chose this semester because I dont want to be off campus for my senior year and first semester junior year is pretty important for landing an internship. I currently have an internship this summer with Grainger that may extend into next summer, but I am also an RA and want to come back for atleast the first semester for next year. That said, it looks like I am limited to that semester to study abroad. I am looking for a cultural experience. These listed places are the ones offered through the college of business, so that I can keep up with classes. So my question for you Soxtalk community, has anyone traveled to these places? Any experiences studying abroad? Working abroad? Anything would be great. I want to get a head start on the process since there are so much complications taht go with this (classes, the RA job, my business fraternity that I could probably be VP External if I stay, etc).
