Sox sign Putz
From a journalistic stand point I have no problem with the way Joe covered that story. I cant say I would be happy as a fan if that rumor actually bumped up the price by a million.

Tigers, Cubs, Royals, Giants Join Sox As Teams Interested in Pods
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) To be fair, all the teams are in cities that are currently feeling the effects of this "economic downturn." Some, like Detroit and Cleveland have been feeling the effect for years. Kansas City is just a small market and Minny is only going to be boosted by the new stadium. Money wise, the White Sox should be destroying all the other teams. If you go by attendance, the White Sox should actually be a middle of the road salary team, not top 5 or so like we are.

Yanks, Tigers, Dbacks Agree to Trade
I cant stand Tiger fans. I went to high school in Ann Arbor and all my high school friends are crying from this trade. Here are some comments on facebook I saw: -The Tigers just lost their two best players (Seriously!!!?????) -I am crying nonstop for a year. -I wouldnt trade Granderson for Babe Ruth, he's my effing Tiger. I understand them losing one of hteir favorite players, but Tiger fans for the most part are completely clueless about baseball. I have fantastic stories about going to Tiger games and the stupidity of their fans. Whenever a ball was hit in the air the whole section I was sitting in would jump up as if it was a home run, then as it landed in the infield they would sit down dissappointed, all the while I would be laughing my ass off at them. I was at an Angels at Tigers game in 2006 and it was the 9th inning and K-Rod was pitching for the Angels trying to close the game out. I was standing up along with others cheering for the last out to come and this lady behind me exclaimed that "she wanted to kick [me] in the head" since she couldnt see the game. Her husband fortunately told her to stand up, its the end of the game (I know that a lot of wives taken to games may not know these types of things, but I couldnt believe she actually said that).

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) I don't buy that rumor for a second. JJ is filthy good. But he's not THAT filthy good. I wasnt quite sure but two sources came out with the same rumor, so you never know. I just dont see the Marlins turning that down though.

Holy s***! Marlins offered Smoak and Perez by Texas for Johnson and apparently declined it. I would be all over that move. I cant believe the Marlines didnt accept that.

Roy Halladay in a White Sox uniform???
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 09:52 PM) It could be used as a smokescreen as was suggested earlier in the thread. If people think he's working on a Halladay deal, they may miss what he really working on. He does like the "under the radar" approach. Fewer Sox big deals get leaked before they actually happen than any other team IMO. I'm sure he's just ressponding exactly how he would like every other club that is asked potential deals with the White Sox to respond. Even though Putz is a FA, I bet KW isn't so happy Thornton let out his interest. White Sox interest was already documented in the media. No big deal to me.

2009 Cubs thread
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) supposedly tampa and the rangers not involved....don't be shocked if its us....especially if KW is scared by matsui's asking price pulled this gem of the NSBB though...pretty funny... Wow. Please tell me that trade is sarcastic, no one can be that stupid, not even a Cubs fan.

Quentin for Crawford?
Do people not realize just how overpaid Crawford is going to be?

Free Agent Tracker
QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) Thats what I thought when he signed with a then 49-113 Tigers team, and VOILA!! they were in the WS 2 yrs later!! He was also a serviceable player back then. Now he is just baggage, especially as he offers little as a backup.

Hideki Matsui
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:42 PM) Just because one isn't excited about obtaining aging, injury proned, poor defensive players does not mean they want to put players out there who are simply not Major League talent. Just because I don't see a Jay Bruce (or whoever) ready to be pluked by the Sox doesn't mean I'm going to be excited about these guys Williams is bringing in whose best days are clearly behind them. I know his thinking (I think) ... the AL Central sucks and this probably isn't the time to go into a youth movement given that factor and the fact we do have a great starting rotation. Still am not excited about the geezer patrol. I would not be excited about any player being broguht in that is subpar. But its not like we are bringing in geezers who are way past the ability to contribute. Either KW brought in guys for roles such as Vizquel, or if he brings in Matsui its because he is a very well balanced hitter who would contribute alot to the lineup. What young guy that the Sox could actually get could do that? Not every move is going to bring in a stud young player in the making unless your losing talent yourself.

Hideki Matsui
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) Well I was hoping the GM would figure that out. Because we can't find a Matt Holiday to put into our lineup we choose instead to get older, slower, worse defensively? Just not excited about players whose prime was 5 years ago. Fields was young and athletic, you want him back starting for us? He would possibly be the worst starting third baseman in baseball. I prefer good players who are athletic, but those guys are hard to acquire and are rare.

Hideki Matsui
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) BJ Upton is the best one off the top of my head, and he'd cost quite a bit even after coming off of two rough seasons. Exactly, at Upton's possible lowest value he would still cost a ton in prospects.

Hideki Matsui
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Can Harold Baines still hit? Hell, I don't know...I thought we were going to get younger, more athletic, faster, less injury proned, better defensively. Granted if Matsui can give you 500ABs, he should be a productive hitter, and our starting rotation is definately ready to compete for post-season, even if the rest of the team isn't. Who is young, good, can play defense well, and isnt impossible to obtain? Im listening...

Quentin for Crawford?
QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) I can't believe those of you who are saying no to this type of deal. Everyone b****es that we don't have a leadoff hitter and the best leadoff hitter with so much speed and SB potential becomes available an some of you say NO! Are you crazy, the guy is only 28 years old. He is a much better bet to give a 5 year extension than it would have been to get the "great" Chone Figgins or swapping bad contracts and getting a Juan Pierre type. You want to give a 5 yr contract worth possibly in the 15 mill a year range to a player who is really overrated? Go ahead. Im happy youre not the GM. Also, I dont remember seeing ANYBODY from this site who proclaimed Figgins as a player worthy of a giant contract. In fact, many people stated that he would be a good player for us next year, but there are many concerns over his age and speed regression along with the amount of money having to be given to him. TCQ has, IMO, much more value than Crawford when including $$$.

Peter Gammons Leaving ESPN?
He's better than alot of people on ESPN, but still favors the Red Sox a ton. I still hope he winds up in a news outlet after this though, he seems like a really nice guy.

Yanks, Tigers, Dbacks Agree to Trade
I can only think that Arizona is foreseeing a long string of injuries for Scherzer and to take advantage of his trade value now. Plus, Jackson could do very well in the NL. Still, quite a haul for the Tigers even though they lose two of their most promising young players. They still have a strong core to build around though.

Sox mentioned to have interest in Padilla
How can reporters get away with these types of rumors while places like SoxNet.net get slammed when they have legit inside information and reported the information professionally? I just dont get how a baseball reporter can be given credibility for what they write when they go ahead and report this. To me, it just shows that baseball reporters have a false sense of ego and really dont know much more than the average Soxtalker.

Sox mentioned to have interest in Padilla
Found this on mlbtraderumors: I dont go for this place for analysis or opinions but they do a solid job compiling rumors. I believe in this one the Sox most likely asked in case of Freddy going down or possibly a bullpen arm. Still, I found this laughable.
