QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 07:27 AM) Yeah that's a big difference between India and China. In India I was fortunate in that everyone there (basically) speaks English. In fact, everyone there spoke at least three languages - Hindi, English, and their local dialect. China, I don't know how true that is. Meanwhile, a lot of kids here in the States can barely speak one language, but that's another discussion. Yea, its an interesting discussion, but then again our country wasnt occupied by another country for years, which is really why they were taught the language. Still, when I went to Italy it was interesting to hear that many schools there require students to learn the basics of English, enough so they can talk to tourists. Im always impressed by those who know more than one language because I have only been able to learn one, and know a very small amount of latin.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 01:38 AM) I'm in Shanghai right now and its a beautiful city, but by yourself you will have a lot of trouble if you can't speak or know anyone (i.e. friend, translator, tour guide, etc) who speaks Chinese, imo. Hmm, Ill have to keep that in mind, my friend was saying that atleast in Hong Kong everyone speaks english, Ill have to make sure where I go I either have a friend along to help or english is common.

Relationship Advice Thread
Well, after putting it off another night last night, I finally made the call and ended it. I really hope I was sincere to her, and ended it in a good way, its the least she deserves (I wasnt mad at her, in a fight, jealous, or anything, it just wasnt right anymore). I told her it wasnt fair for one of us to not be in it 100%, and that nothing she did was the cause for it. I just wasnt feeling it lately, and I gave time and thought to the decision over the past few months to make sure it wasnt just a down moment, but really a lack of feelings for her as a girlfriend. I said I hope you understand why, and that these few years have been great and I wouldnt change a thing about them. I told her that I am open to being friends still, but she didnt know how that would work, and I was said I didnt know either but she is still a great person. Feels weird, but right at the same time.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) I spent a month in India on business. One of the best things I've ever done. Did you ever go out at night? As a 21 yr old at the time of the trip, Im going to be looking for some nightlife (which will be easy to find is my guess) to go along with the cultural experience, was it easy to go out and meet people? India is a place that I wouldnt mind spending a few nights, if not on this trip then in the future.

Where you met your significant other?
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) The basement at Kam's. Not exactly the basement of the Alamo, but it's pretty close. How did you get her off the floor? Not dissing your moves, but that floor is gross, stickiest floor you will ever step on.

Im really probably going to go, no matter if I get someone to go with me or not. Since I have friends who will help plan out the trip (giving recommendations on where to go, etc) I dont feel like I would be in too lost, and Im not one to freak out about traveling alone anyways. Also, tuition and room and board at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is ridiculously cheap, even with flight and books the total is under $9,000 for the semester, and combined with my savings from the semester and summer jobs I could plan a decent trip I believe.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) From everything I've heard about my China trip, traveling abroad when you don't have a ton of experience traveling is strongly not recommended. There are just too many things that can go wrong, and having some type of buddy system works the best. Makes sense. I havent even applied for the trip yet (the application isnt due for a few months for priority deadline) so I dont know if others would want to do a trip beforehand, so Im hoping atleast one other person going on the study abroad trip would want to do the same as me.

Have you ever gone to a game by yourself?
QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) I don't really want to start another thread...should I buy a good seat on StubHub or buy a decent seat on TM using a code for half off...basically i spend a few bucks more on TM but I know the Sox are getting more money this way than me buying tixs from someone with extras, thus helping payroll. any opinions? I go for the best seat, especially if the difference is only a few bucks (not caring who is really getting the money).

Anybody ever travel abroad by themselves? Is it recommended? I say this because I am most likely going to study abroad in Hong Kong Spring 2011, and I really want to explore Asia, possibly other places before the semester begins (it starts late, on Feb 1st so I would have about 3 weeks to travel, depending on how much I want to spend). I would go with someone but I most likely will not know anyone traveling there at the same time, and none of my friends will have the time or cash to do it too. I do have friends from Taiwan and other places offering to let me know where to go, and I have no problem traveling alone, just dont really know the whole international traveling alone thing.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) You're going on a first date with a girl. It's either a blind date or a girl you barely know. Where do you go?? For college dates, this one guy has success taking girls out during happy hours, so getting good deals on food and drinks, plus its a very social time. If he likes her after that, he'll take her out to a more expensive date.

Relationship Advice Thread
So, its been about 2 1/2 years, and about 2 years of that long distance, and Im ready to throw in the towel. Problem is, she isnt and I have noooo idea how to do a decent break up. Any past experiences to help out? I dont want to be an asshole, but at the same time my heart isnt in it anymore and I dont know how to say that without being a douche (I mean, its been over 2 years and now to say my heart isnt in it just sounds bad to me). Pile on the fact that we never see each other, neither during the semesters nor during summer, except for a weekend every two months, it just sucks and Im ready to move on.

4/20 games
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) I know I am being stubborn, but until I see significant improvements in that K rate (28% k-rate is actually worse than last year) I cannot take him seriously as an offensive player. Yes, I understand that I will be ridiculued by overlooking his extra-base hits, great average thus far, ability to walk and stolen bases, but I do not have faith he can do any of that at the major league level with such a poor contact rate. Flame away. Totally agree, I just think of Chris Young. He has lots of potential, and is a very exciting player to have coming up, but he will struggle mightily at the ML level if he doesnt cut down on strikeouts.

What would you do...
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 10:34 AM) Ok so here is the deal...I just started playing in a baseball league here in San Diego, bunch of cool guys and we have a blast after the game drinking some cold ones. Just recently the guy who is gonna put up the uniforms decided we should use Cubs uniforms for our league play, he's not even a Cubs fan (at least that's what he says). Would you guys continue playing with this team even if you have to don those awful uniforms or would you quit? Getting your money back and joining another team with less offensive unis is not an option, too late for that and 75 bucks would go down the drain.I have tried talking to this guy about getting another uni to no avail, so I'm in a bind...My brother also plays on this team and he is a die hard Sox fan and he says we should quit, I'm tilting toward his way of thinking. Your thoughts... Just play baseball and enjoy the game, once you let things like that get in the way of the game are you truly a baseball fan? Just heckle the guy for ordering them all year, so when your bullpen falters you blame them on the unis, but seriously, play the game if you really enjoy it.

Custom Jerseys
QUOTE (The Baconator @ Apr 18, 2010 -> 02:46 AM) If it's in Champaign, go to Te Shurt on Wright St. They have everything you'll need, and they screen print anything you want. Not sure about if they do stitching on a jersey, but I do know that they do all their stuff for super cheap. Yea Ive used them a few times, but wasnt sure on jerseys. Ill have to check them out instore as their website is under construction.

GT: White Sox @ Indians, 4/18, 12:05, CSN
C'mon, theres no way in hell we would trade Rios or Peavy unless blown away by an offer (which is highly unlikely). If anything, this team would be restructured once again, but also once again we are going to be hampered by a thin farm system, and contracts to bad players taking up too much salary (Pierre, Teahen, Linebrink, thats what, about 15-17 million?). We have good building blocks, but weve handcuffed ourselves in alot of ways that could make it hard to restructure or rebuild.

Custom Jerseys
Im looking into buying custom jerseys for my staff of about 25 people next year, but have no idea which places do a good job. This will be in the Champaign area so I am guessing it will be an online order. We are on a budget for this so any advice on a good, but not overly expensive place would be great. In case you want to know, I want to design them with Black and Silver colors, with "Illinois St." on the front. No names will be on the back and numbers arent needed (to save money and they arent used as a uniform really, just a staff shirt that I think would look awesome). Thanks!

Growth of Unpaid Internships May Be Illegal, Officials Say
QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) Then how would you add any "real world" experience into acadamia? For business it is quite easy to do so: Case Competitions Presentations/Q&A sessions with managers in workfield Office visits Job Shadows etc... Some of these can be provided by professors, others by the actual college or student groups.

Leno going back to Late Night
I actually think those two will fit in great together, and as much money and following as FOX has, I could easily see them interfering with Conan's work and not allowing him to do what he wanted. And you know FOX would f*** it up somehow just like any other good program they have.
