QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) Illinois Loyalty is awful, too. Some posters aren't too bad, but man the high and low of emotions over there is just terrible. That Kramer dude is a very solid poster though.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) Oh boy, here we go. No one has changed their crystal ball prediction to UCLA since the 3rd. 4 people changed to ILL between last night and this morning. Up to 64% as of now. Waiting... Over at IL they are pretty much saying it would be a shocker if it wasn't Illinois, I'm thinking it's us but crazier things have happened.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 07:06 PM) WTF? As a security technologist, I cannot comprehend this mentality. ANY device containing personal information, of you, or of others, absolutely requires security/passwords, and then some. The first and second rule when a knowledgable thief steals someones smart phone is 1) pop out the sim and 2) disable wifi. And if it's already unlocked/unguarded like yours is, I now have infinite time to browse around it for useful information. Yea you need at least basic security on your phone such as a passcode to get in, that'll at least deter common thieves to a point.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 05:00 PM) I hope Ulis goes to Iowa or MSU. I could see low PT for him at Kentucky. I've seen the occasional rumor that Ulis and his camp believe he is a one and done, I would put that as unlikely to happen.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) Ulis to announce Fri between Iowa, MSU, and Kentucky. Sounds like Wildcats favorites. Snider expected to announce his choice soon after. MSU really needs Ulis to commit, but he probably goes to UK. I think he has a chip on his shoulder and wants to take UK's offer, rather than go to Iowa or MSU where he won't be recruited over and probably have a much better career. Things look good for Snider and Illinois, but no guarantees with it. Hopefully he feels more comfortable going to Illinois with Groce rather than go a 1000 miles from home to be around Alford.

Job Hunt Thread
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) Just venting a bit...I absolutely hate that outsourcing is thing. I always hear politicians talking about how they're going to create more jobs, well here's a thought...ELIMINATE outsourcing! My moms been with the same company for 18 years, 2 years away from retirement and collecting social security but now her job is being outsourced to India. I now have to put my big boy pants on and help out the family...There goes trying to move out...ugh whatever. My department is currently going through the same thing, fortunately I'm not affected (yet anyways, new leadership just came in and put a hiring freeze on us so who knows what will happen). Lesson learned: be adaptable, always be learning more, never rely on your job being there forever. We had an opening (before the hiring freeze) and we interviewed a lot of candidates that were losing their jobs. It was clear within 5 minutes who had progressed in their last jobs and who just sat around collecting the profit sharing.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) Until apps update to use the new registers of the 64bit architecture, it's mostly future proofing the OS. A lot of people erroneously think the only thing 64bit is for, is accessing > 4GB of memory, which is incorrect. You'll probably see a lot of this argument across the Internet right now from the fan boys/anti-fan boys. The 5s is mostly spec bumps across the device (which was expected), and the fingerprint scanner, which is somewhat cool (IF it's accurate). I've used some of these fingerprint scanners in the past and holy crap they sucked. What's the point of the fingerprint scanner? Just a "cool" way for 2nd factor authentication?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 7, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) Anyone purchase Diablo 3 for console? I'm debating it solely on the fact that I spent countless hours playing Diablo 2 years ago My roommate got it, and he just beat it literally 5 minutes ago. I created a character and played with him a bit yesterday, it seemed alright but not up to expectations for following up D2. I can't remember the game, but my roommate had downloaded some free game on PS3 that played almost exactly like D3, just wasn't as in depth (no voices, graphics not quite as good, skills/characters weren't as deep) but I thought he was playing that other game for the first 10 minutes. D3 didn't really fulfill anything for me, instead it just made me miss D2 a lot more.

I cant believe Beckham and his staff actually outcoached and out prepared another team, not saying that this is going to save the program but huge sign that they can actually get something done on the field.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) Anyone use greenbox or redi-box to move before? I've only moved myself previously and thats not an option here. looking for recommendations on the best way to do it. I worked for Two Men and a Truck for a summer before college in Ann Arbor, here are my tips for moving: -Pack everything yourself, disassemble furniture beforehand if it requires it (think bed frames, IKEA ones can take forever to take apart and most local moves are hourly so youre paying crazy amounts of money for someone to do that for you). -Get things as close to your moving entrance/exit as possible, the less time a mover has to run around the house/apartment for boxes/furniture the less money you spend. If you have anything obstructing the path, make sure it's moved well in advance (including doors if you have large furniture). -Get quotes from reputable local movers, don't worry so much about the total quote but more about the hourly rate. If two companies have similar reputations than look at their hourly charges as the difference maker. Also, giving false information when they give you a quote saves you nothing, saying you live in a 2br apartment when in reality it's a 3 br house doesn't actually save you anything, it's all hourly anyways. If you can, move all boxes/small furniture yourself before or after the move, you can usually do a UHAUL and do that type of stuff yourself, and hire the movers to do the big stuff. This can cut your bill in half usually. TIP TIP TIP. Promise a good tip if they do the job in good time and don't make any mistakes. Depending on the size of the move and how many guys are there, I suggest between $20-100 per mover. If it's about a 3 br condo youre moving out of (just a guess), I would say it's probably going to be a close to a full day's job for 2 people. A $50-100 tip would go a long way for those guys to do a better job, save your walls and furniture more.

These are cool internships. They are paid. They offer credit. Social Media Marketing Intern Online Marketing Intern Graphic Design Intern Meanwhile, I'll probably hear about 3 people complaining they haven't found jobs yet. If I see anyone looking for work in those areas I'll forward the links. Also, Lombard probably isn't a hotspot for young marketing professionals, that may steer people away.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) If we pull Turner it will be one of the best classes he's ever had. And 2015 is shaping up already. If IU has room, I'm pretty sure talent will go there unless you guys sink into the abyss again. Oh yea, IU won't whiff but they have been getting beat thus far for 2014. They're in the thick of it for some top guys so they could recover nicely or get screwed.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) They'll be up there, but still a little ways off from OSU/IU recruiting-wise. I think they could certainly join that upper tier if he sustains it through 2015-16. Wisconsin will always be up there because of the system/coaching. MSU's recruiting has started to decline. UM is the wildcard. I'm sorry, how many recruits do you guys have for 2014?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) If Starks gets his waive there is no issue with taking Black, Snider and Finke in that class. If he doesn't get his waiver I've heard there is a plan in place to make 3 commits work for next year but that it could get a bit dicey if they somehow land Black, Snider and Alexander. Of course if you land all 3 of those guys you make it work. Yea you you Crean no matter what for Cliff. Hopefully the Starks waiver comes through soon to make this a bit better of a scholly situation. IMO, if anyone decides to leave after a year it would be Colbert or Tate.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 07:12 PM) Surprisingly they MADE me switch to theirs a few years ago. As long as you use a pre-approved modem they cant really do s*** (well as far as I know). They tried using that on me in college, I had done my research though and got their list of approved modems, went to Best Buy and got one onsale (didn't want to wait for Amazon to ship at the time). It was about $50. My current one (on RCN) is a pre-approved combo modem/router, nice not to need two devices that just waste space. That was about $90, or just about a years worth of fees and I didn't have to buy a router on top of that.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) The Soap Opera Effect Yea, like I said it was a friend's tv so I wasn't going to mess with it. I personally have a plasma and love it, though the room is sometimes a bit too bright for it.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) I've got the Genie and am very pleased with it. As for your question about tv's, I've always gone with Panasonic for plasma and I bought a 70-inch Sharp Aquos LED for my main room. Have been very pleased with it generally, although even at 240 Hz, I notice a bit of trailing when I am watching certain sports, with golf being the worst offender. I personally can't stand 240hz on LEDs. Maybe it was just my friend's tv but everything looked way too fake, it puts so much emphasis on the "front" objects that even movies/shows that I thought were high quality started to look like cheaply made soap operas with how it engineered everything. But again, it was 1 tv and my friends didn't notice until I pointed it out.
