QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) Wow. I guess I take for granted being close ish to work. I got a good review and a 2% raise. Yeah... I'm so below market rate at this point, I probably should find a new gig. Damn that's unfortunate, maybe see what's out there and find something better or atleast something with more money that can pressure your current company? I'm anxiously awaiting to see my year end review and start talks about salary adjustment, as much as I love the company I work for they have been really bad in showing any sort of appreciation monetarily for hard work at the lower levels since they went through this re-org. Ideal situation is that they just promote me to the next level (which I've been pretty much doing for a few months on top of my normal workload) which puts me in a really nice payrange. We shall see what happens.
  2. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 21, 2013 -> 10:18 PM) So we should all just define ourselves by our job. If your employer wouldn't like something you do in your personal life you just shouldn't do it? Fffffuuuuuuccckkkkkkkkkk that. If you have a bad driving record you shouldn't be driving trucks. If you post racist tweets you shouldn't be in PR.
  3. Too much needs to go right for this team for the Sox to make the playoffs, the odds are really against us. I expect to see a 75-80 win team with current construction.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) It was glamorous for about 1 year when I was 23 and I could expense super expensive meals. Then it wears off, you gain weight, you lose your hobbies, you barely ever sleep in your bed and you learn to hate every single vacationing family in the history of the airports. I was on the road 3 weeks out of every month at one time. It really appealed to me in college and I was all gungho to work for Deloitte Consulting and had a few friends working there so thought I would have an in, then I talked to them more about their work/life and by junior year I decided I didn't really want that. While I wish my office was closer to/in downtown, I know that if I stick it out there it'll be great for when I move back to the burbs.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 04:19 PM) You dont have to care. Im not asking anyone to care, thats why I share my thoughts as an anonymous name "Soxbadger" that is not a real human. The point of the message board for me is to allow me an outlet to flesh out ideas to a greater audience. Facebook is encapsulated. The people who can see my posts are my friends, the people who can comment, are my friends. What is the point of having 1,000 people who are just going to bow? I am looking for Jelly Monsters, I want the haters, I want the people who have extremely divergent ideas. Because that is what makes me think. So it is different, because on facebook I couldnt be me, I have to be the photo shopped bulls*** version. That's on you.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 03:58 PM) Why would I do that? I am just giving you s*** about your hot dog stand, i wouldnt hesitate to try anything you eat. Im one of the few in this discussion that enjoys people on FB. Some of my friends and family are absolutely hilarious, some people post thoughts on music and videos that make me curious, i like watching news unfold on it. The only thing i truly do not enjoy on FB is political discussion. I think you missed his lol emoticon
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) IT has to be one of the higher paying starting fields. My buddy made 65k right out of school at Boeing while no one else that I know came close to that. I was right around there, pretty much higher than any of my accountant friends but lower than most consultants. I also have to be on call periodically so there is some pay built into that.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 04:51 PM) The school district I work for pays entry level IT (some prior experience is preferred/required) approximately $40k. Hence large companies in Chicago part. And IT is so broad that it was kind of an unfair generalization. Working in the helpdesk or doing helpdesk type work will probably start at $40k at most places. Working as an analyst or a higher tier for troubleshooting/building will pay a lot more.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) CDW, 23k +2k signing bonus paid out of 365 days. Also 10% of GP commisson. I made probably 40k as the top rep my group. To me that was a TON of money. Oh yea it's pretty great not having a lot of commitments (zero school loans thanks to parents/being an RA to cover housing costs and working PT to cover all other costs), even with financing a car and rent I pretty much don't really worry about money.
  10. Whoa those are really low starting salaries. Even my roommate who is just a lab tech at a large pharma company (and is hourly) makes around $40k before overtime. Entry level in IT is like $55k+ at most large companies in the Chicago area.
  11. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) I was thinking about getting my Dad Netflix for Christmas (Mom would use it too, just less). They aren't the most tech-savvy people, but it seems like Netflix is a pretty easy process. Is this the way to go, or would you recommend a different route for getting TV shows/movies they'd want to watch? I don't know much about the different options out there, and would love to hear from people who have used any of them. Thanks. Amazon prime isn't quite as user friendly imo, the apps aren't as clear. However, they both have roughly the same content but Prime gets you 2 day shipping. Either one is a really good option.
  12. Wow was just looking at Michigan's schedule, they very well could be on the bubble come tourney time, they got a lot of games they need to surprise people in.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Yeah eff those guys. It's obvious they have a plethora of better job opportunities and selected bathroom attendant as a career choice. Make that job illegal so those worthless people can become homeless. Seriously? Look, if this is all they have to make money then that sucks immensely, but too many of them berate customers that don't tip them. That's f***ing s***ty, I don't want to have you looking at me while I'm pissing, hand me a towel from a machine, and expect me to pay you. I've crossed off a lot of bars for having those guys there.
  14. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) I agree that the odds are very great that he won't put up the .344 average, or .442 OBP, which he produced hitting behind Eaton at Reno, in 2012. But, who says he as to perform at that astounding level to be good enough to bat second on the White Sox? I'd take a .300 average, a .375 OBP, and the ability to execute the hit and run, as well as take and foul off pitches. Wouldn't you? Hey, maybe you should be debating this point with Brett Butler. He is the one who raved about his ability as a number two hitter. As far as the other "two organizations which have given up on him", he has never really had a chance to show what he can do at the Major League level. Moreover, he now would have the unique opportunity to work with his former lead off hitter, Eaton. That was the time that he was so good. Again, the two of the them together, are what apparently made it all work so well. There was that description of how they even had signs between them. It would be hard to believe that Hahn and front office aren't fully aware of, and intrigued by the possibilities. Well, I had intended to "rest my case", but I'll continue to debate the issue, as long as there are counter arguments to giving this experiment a try. For a guy who was waived by the Astros to put up a line like that would be like getting struck by lightening 99 times in a concrete bunker.
  15. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:57 PM) I don't know that I can fill all those seats though.
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) LOL at a wall preventing you from seeing half the court. Those ones way up were awful, it was like watching a game at Wrigley from under the deck, but even worse. It felt like I was watching the game through a box or something. I'm sure that view up is cool, but there has to be a way to make it more functional. Although, I read something that Sampson said the arena was so dumpy that all he could really do with a recruit was point at the banners, say hey help us get a 6th, and leave. I can't wait until ours is all the way done 3 years from now (will start this spring). f*** these A level half empty seats, can't wait for them to be gone and replaced by Krush all along the court/tv view.
  17. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) Is that one closing though? Not sure actually, there's a Target/Jewel off of Howard about a mile or two west as well.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) I live near Howard station and the freakin Dominicks is closing by me. I just sold my car too so now I have to figure out how I can do my grocery shopping since it's no longer walking distance. Morse Fresh grocery is great for meat/produce/deli, right next to the EL as well. However, it's not great for the non-perishables/frozen foods. For those I typically go to Target or Dominicks (there's one on Ridge a mile or two away, not great for walking for you though).
  19. People I know that are trying to "revitalize" Detroit are so crazy. They want the city to thrive again, but then attack any businesses that come in that aren't owned by local black residents. Look, I get that the city is predominantly black (around 80%), but if a white person wants to invest money in Detroit it doesn't mean they are trying to scheme blacks and take advantage of them. I somewhat get the local business support, the city needs more, but still jobs are jobs and Detroit sure needs them. I would worry about supporting local business more once that city gets back on it's feet a bit.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) Can Illinois shoot the 3ball this year? No, but we have some guys that could get hot. We're below average for the most part, most of our guards are drivers.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) You only trade Chris Sale if you get someone who you think can be as good as Chris Sale. And then some. You don't trade a young cost controlled ace like Sale unless you're getting a package you believe will be better than Sale.
  22. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) This is just straight devil's advocate in this question, not trying to assume anything. If you got raped, would you go to a fraternity party a week later? Honest question. Me? No, but I wouldn't be there anyways. Also, people cope with things differently, I had a thing with a girl in high school who admitted that she thinks she was raped by a guy when unconscious from alcohol, but there she is drinking and wanting to hook up while telling the story. Sometimes doing things that seem terribly wrong or out of place is a way to cope and get back to the things you wanted to do.
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:34 PM) That's the problem when you have an all freshmen bench and none of them are instant impact type guys. Thankfully Nunn is starting to come along a bit and Hill is really talented but this roster just isn't very good thanks to the 2011 class being a complete bust for Illinois. It's a transition year, losses like this are going to be more common than not. It's just disappointing that so many of the mistakes were by our juniors.
  24. Illinois down at half to IPFW, going to have to play smarter to pull this comeback.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 29, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Or hurting it by showing that the Big Ten is not much better than the MAC I think you just sided with NIU with that statement...
