  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Sounds like just a dumb college mistake. We've all been there. Has no history of bad behavior like this. Yea from what I read/heard the cop basically admitted he wouldn't have been in trouble if he hadn't run. Stupid drunken choice, I've made worse while drunk but fortunately never got caught. Hopefully nothing like this happens again though.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) To me their only uncivilized trait was being free vs following a king. They may have had their share of savages but no more than the "civilization" south of the wall. The TV show ignored this in the last episode but I assume they will bring their same nature back in when Well they were highly disorganized and fought each other constantly, hence the uncivilized comments I think. They didnt have much in the way of technology either, only the Thenn's did any metalwork, and that was limited to bronze. But yes, in the books they were not as evil as they are portraying the Thenn's to be, but I sort of understand the need to make one group an extremist group in the show. Also, anyone else a little upset that Stannis left off last season being alerted that the Wall was under attack and all gungho about it but now that seemingly has been completely dropped off? It seems a bit too obvious that they jumped the gun on that storyline and now have a bunch of filler (the Iron Bank part was a good write in but for the most part those scenes are straight filler of Stannis being indecisive).
  3. IU picks up Jeremiah April. How desperate was Crean for a big man? Just ask April's mother:

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) No I actually don't need an argument to prove this. 100 years of baseball proves it. Defense has always been judged by the eye test. The burden of proof is on you and your stats, not me and my eyes. I can watch a guy like Avi Garcia for 5 minutes and tell you he's a horrible defender. I don't need stats for that. Because I can watch someone make a great play in one game, not watch their next 5 games where they have errors in each game, and walk away thinking they are great. The eye test is great, for when you actually get to see many full games. Considering how long the season is, how long games are, and how many players out there it's just not reasonable at all to say the eye test is the only measurement because youre going to be lucky to see 1% of all baseball plays. Stats help supplement what you don't see.

GOT was very solid again last night. Biggest issue I had was with Jamie and Cersei's "scene". I didn't like the timing of it and it was very different from the book and not in a good way,
  6. Haith was offered the Tulsa job, as an Illini fan I hope he stays.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) Where is he going? Perhaps you might look there... I'm guessing he followed one of his good buddies who left about a year ago for another local company (his buddy is a VP there). I'm not even 2 years yet at this company (graduated in may 2012) but a big proponent of getting promoted was the sr. director so maybe there would be interest there. I'll have to see how things shake out, I think my boss (who I have the best relationship with) has indicated that changes are coming with some of the things he's been saying lately, but who knows at this point.
  8. I went to HS with the guy, he was awesome to watch pitch (I was a freshman, he was a SR). It'd be cool to see him pitch for us, hopefully he does well.

    Job Hunt Thread

My boss' boss is leaving the company (Sr Directory level in charge of IT Security). The interim guy (who I'm not a fan of) is most likely getting the job as it appears he was being groomed for it. Luckily I'm in good standing with the guy, but I just don't trust him much (manages up and not down). Not sure what changes are coming, but thinking I need to keep my eyes open.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) To visit the clubhouse? I really think that is not accurate. No, if he took on a paid role for the Sox he would have to forego that money.
  11. Overall, I was really impressed. The basketball jerseys are much more modern but look good (agreed on the silver, thats a great alternate), and the football jerseys have a great classic look to them (the red grange ghost tribute is straight dope). I think to Illinois fans the shield is great, but to others they won't really know anything about it. In that sense, it's not a good primary logo, but I like it as a secondary. I REALLY hope to see alternatives with "Fighting" on them for basketball, hopefully they come out this year and if not then maybe in the next year or two as they make adjustments.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) What happens there and all that... but really. Vodoo Lounge on top of the Rio was incredible. The rest was a lot of walking up and down the strip with a bottle in hand and seeing where the night went. I had a f***ing blast in Vegas, the group is going to try and do this annually during the sweet 16/elite 8 now.
  13. Super early and biased prediction, Illinois finishes 4th in the B1G.

  15. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) Nope, it's this guy http://deadspin.com/uconn-ra-will-not-tole...-1560355781/all Ugh, I was an RA and that is the last thing I or anyone on my staff would've said to residents. In fact, I probably would've been hosting an event to watch the game on multiple projectors while providing free food, would've been the easiest event to put together. Either that or I would've been getting s***faced with friends at a bar going nuts and stumbling back to my room and trying to act somewhat sober in front of residents at 3am.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 10:18 AM) 2. They had to recast Daario because the actor left to pursue another work. Sucks but they had no choice. 3. Oberyn was great. I was hoping for a "darker" actor but I think he did a great job last night. 4. Yep Interesting, I had read about the recast when it was announced but didnt see a reasoning for it at the time. Oh well, hopefully they landed another solid actor. And totally agreed, Oberyn in the previews looked like a miscast but he's doing a great job so far.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 01:12 AM) I hate GOT because of what my brain drew during the books. Yea I feel ya man, but I'm just trying to keep the two separate as best as I can, because the books are becoming more of a guideline for the show (makes sense because there's so much in the books that you can't/don't want to do in the show. Theyve done an incredible job building characters in the show, sometimes too well ( ).

  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) Vegas is seriously the best place on earth Leaving Thursday for there, can't wait to go.
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 25, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) I was reading a slate article about the missing plane and how the airline is getting some heat for using text messages to inform family members that the airline believes everyone died. Later it is reported that this was after calling and trying to speak directly with everyone. What is considered today as acceptable ways to deliver bad news? In the old days of the 20th century delivering bad news (not just life and death stuff) was always face to face. It was considered rude and a terrible breach of etiquette to tell someone for example that they were fired over the phone, via mail, etc. Always face to face. Now it seems that a phone call is an acceptable substitute. How many people have received bad news via facebook status messages? So when do we use email? mass email? Text? Facebook? Phone? When do we just have to get in front of the person and tell them face to face? What about messages of those who passed away in wars sent by telegram or letters? It may be a terrible method, but when you need to do mass communications it's not always feasible or timely to do it any other way.
  21. As an avid Tesla follower, the Gen III (commonly referred to as Model E) will be a brand new design, about 20% smaller than the model S and they are still aiming for starting at $35K without government tax credits, all by roughly 2016. The car is meant to be similar to the BMW 3 series, more affordable, smaller, yet sporty. We'll see when they actually get the car out, theyve struggled enough with production for the X. Hopefully the new gigafactory helps out and they are able to reduce costs while increasing production rates. It's still a very speculative company, but has a ton of potential. No one else has been able to match the Tesla in EV yet, there have been some cool concepts out by other companies but they aren't really interested yet.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 20, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) The Craft hate comes from the media falling in love with him and shoving him down fans throats despite offensive limitations. It's the Tebow Effect. He's obviously a smart kid who plays hard and has great instincts. Now he can go to med school and out of my life. Exactly, if Craft was on my team i would've loved him, but he isn't so I don't. And it's not Craft, it's the announcers. How can you say "kid flat out wins, he's a winner" when his team just lost? It's just a stupid phrase that seemingly every announcer used during an OSU game that I watched.
  23. Im just so happy never to hear about Aaron Craft from announcers again, team was losing and then lost and yet announcers still calling him a "winner."
