I don't want to do this stat because I know it's going to look bad for the Sox. We have not been a good K-out club for the past 4 yrs. We have not been a good control team either. The Twins dominate us in this stat. Have for the past 4 yrs. Every year I go into the season saying this is Garland's year. I don't want to lose that dream so I prefer to just look forward to 2005 & hope for the best. For those who are new to Sox fandom Garland is more than just a 5th starter. He's a symbol. If he has a breakout year with the Sox it's major bragging rights vs Cub fans. I know because I'm surrounded by them. We talk about Garland all the time. That trade talk never seems to end.

In the Cubune last Friday it emphasized how badly the Cubs need speed. 11th in the NL in SB's. Patterson 32, D Lee (12), no one else in double digits. They have done nothing in the off season to address this. So I would think they'd have to be interested in Harris. What you have to ask is do they have a greater need for Harris or Farnsy? Most of the Cub fans pestered Hendry with questions as to why is Farnsy still here? They expected him gone. As for the Sox we need Farns more than Harris. He's an upgrade over Adkins & as much greater upside potential than Adkins. $-wise the Cubs save 800K in the swap.
-
We've been pitching the Farnsy for Harris deal in several threads. I'd do it in a heartbeat as well. I fault Baker for some of the crap they get a way with there. Ozzie wouldn't stand for most of that. I think a change of pitching & head coach could wake Farnsy up. He's definitely an upgrade over Adkins. As for the Cub they don't have much speed that I'm aware of. Patterson & Barrett is all that comes to mind. Harris would be a nice tool for them off the bench.

I was thinking the same thing when I started reading those names. You can carry that on with the pen as well. That was back when there were 2 divisions I think. We don't need to be that good to win the division this year.

Very scary s***! Imagine the pain of being alive when they are draining your blood.

You should not have the right to terminate your own life. Unless we amend the US Cons that right does not exist. The US Cons clearly defines the state's rights in preservation of life. That is what this case is about. You can mention his witnesses & I can refer to your own timeline which refers to a witness that was closer to her that contradicts his. So I'm certainly not going to suggest a decision on her life & death be made on the basis of heresay. The best path is to go forward with the 5 doctor consensus analysis that was proposed earlier in the timeline. That removes the politics & self-interests of Schiavo from the case.

Norihiro Nakamura now available to MLB teams
JUGGERNAUT replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
3 reasons: 1) Crede is not in any one's dog house. They are actually fond of him. 2) The Sox have no more $ to spend on a bidding process. They are certainly not going to tie up more $ in this guy than Iggy & that's usually what these bidding processes lead to. 3) The Sox only have 1 move left: trade Harris for an upgrade in the pen or an upgrade at UIF. Teams have a higher value of Harris than we do because of his speed. -
All I can say on the Dye vs Lee debate is that most scouts & analysts that covered the off-season believe this signing to have been one of the best. They are expecting a big year out of Dye at the Cell. The fantasy league sites have written the same thing. In addition they expect Lee to decline a little in numbers for the Brewcrew. The potential is there for a Maggs like year out of Dye.

We must be really bored right now continuing to translate japanese sites after Iggy's signed with the Sox

Ok, then for those who say he can't play SS because of his arm then you have to rule him out for playing an OF position for us or any one else. That means he's a 1-dim player in the field. If that's true then trade him.
-
It looks like no Sosa in NY. Newsday reports that none of Minaya's subs want Sosa & the fan backlash in calls to the Mets over the possibility has bee too great to ignore. It seems to suggest they have cooled their interest as well on Maggs. But I think if he can prove he's able to play the Mets will jump in.
-
I'd like to give Harris a few ops as SS in ST before we give up on him. I'm sure there will be some split squad games & I'd like the Sox to see if he could be an adequate SS. I'm just looking for him to give Uribe a spell now & then. If Harris could prove to be a reasonable option at SS then I think his stock improves greatly with the Sox. He has decent numbers against RHers & when you're looking at him as a bench player you can make use of that.
-
I don't like the choices. Borchy is not expected to make the roster & Harris will only make the roster if we can't find someone better. I don't see how these two are linked.
-
I think the difference in years past is that if we got someone on we were always waiting for the bit hit. Now we have better odds at manufacturing a run w/out the big hit. Assuming Iggy can put up something near his 3 yr avg, our offense is down marginally as far as the big hit goes. It's up majorly as far as being able to squeeze out runs with small hits & just putting the ball in play. Every team doesn't play at the Cell. A lot of players looked at the numbers last year & especially Uribe & started looking at the Sox as a potential place to play. I think this trend is going to continue if we're among the top 5 in HR's & runs again.

I won't comment on you, but democratic republic refers to the fact that representatives of the republic are elected via a democratic process. But silly me for understanding the context of the words & not just their grammar.

I have to call it quits because this is consuming too much of my time. You have to weigh the needs of a person coming out of town to have access to that information vs the rights of said persons privacy. You can not meet such a need without providing a global public display. I do not feel that need is strong enough to usurp the persons privacy rights. Especially when they can be labeled a sex offender for pissing on a lawn or a tree.
-
Do you actually believe the bulls*** you post? Do you have any idea how big the ACLU is? Are you completely ignorant of it's resources? They defend their own deranged moralist bulls***. That's what they defend. Occasionally it just happens to coincide with stuff us privacy advocates agree with. Hence your reference to Rush.
-
I do not have a problem with you doing that, but you should have to provide proof of residency to do so. The same proof of residency that is required to vote in a precinct or district should be sufficient.
-
There is nothing in this case that shows a denial of a viewpoint. Pro-abortion persons have the right to purchase personalized license plates in SC advocating thier personal viewpoints. If the state feels there is not sufficient demand to offer a customized service for those viewpoints they have a right not to supply demand. The pro-abortion advocates have provided ZERO evidence to suggest ample demand by SC residents. The rest of what you said is pure bulls***. You choose to ignore the vast disparity of monetary resources between abortion clinics & cpc's. That clearly defines you as a person who is not interested in fairness but rather in censorship of the disadvantaged to an extent to where they can not even seek assistance through public support. You should be ashamed of yourself. The fact remains that on general principles it's just as illegal for government dollars to be spent on these clinics as it is for the state of SC to try & provide help to cpc's. Only a socialist who believes their own moral relativist bulls*** doesn't stink would think otherwise.
-
Again, I am so sick of the lack of compromise on these things. Is it necc to know that sex offenders live in your hood? Yes. This can be obtained by a geographical plot giving a general location. Is it necc to be able to call your local police & get a list of those living in your hood? Yes. Provided you can show proof of residency in that hood you should be able to obtain such a list. But is it necc to put on public display for the whole world every person who has have been labeled a sex offender in the USA? No. There is no excuse for this scarlet letter attitude. As some of you have indicated the statute for what defines an SO varies from state to state. Yet that distinction is going to be easily lost in a public worldly display. According to Michigan 1000's of Cub fans are sex offenders.
-
Then every government dollar that goes to abortion clinics should be matched by one that goes to crisis pregnancy centers. There is no such thing as pro-choice & anti-abortion. There is only pro-abortion & pro-life. If you believe otherwise you are ignoring the monetary facts. There is nothing in the US Cons that implies a state government much offer equal opportunity to raise funding through the construction of license plates. If you disagree please cite a reference. Were money, selling, & production are involved between private & government resources I defer to the defense department. They offer a bidding process to private resources to meet their needs. In the end they choose the one they feel best meets those needs. In this case the state determined the need to help assist cpc's exceeded that of the need to help assist abortion clinics. It's not hard to come to that decision looking at the monetary situation of the two groups.

Not true. If you look at polling & surveys that were done on the issue prior to that decision they were ready to fall. The majority of Americans had a high level of tolerance at the time the laws were struck down. If they had put that on state refs I'm pretty sure the vote to strike them down would have won. Right or wrong I respect what happened there because it demostrated how the system works. Artists within media companies used their power & resources to influence the will of the majority. They were individuals representing a minority group who sought peaceful means to influence the process. Since the time the laws were struck down there has not been any major movement to re-instate something of that nature. Generally speaking most Texans approve of the court's action. They care more about school prayer than the right to entertain an alternative lifestyle. When the court ruled against school prayer the majority in those states attempted to pass a constitutional amendment protecting that right. That issue has not gone away. In contrast when the sodomy laws were struck down there was no such movement. That's a clear sign to me the majority accepted the decision. Democracy works.

Thanks for that link. It's good stuff! David Sloane really spanked the Mets. Lumping them with the O's. It looks like Sosa will be a Met afterall. I think having lost out on Delgado Minaya is going to accept the Sosa + 9M for Floyd offer. He's on the hook for Sosa for 27M/2 yr. It's not a big deal for the Mets payroll. Floyd has already failed as a Met & Sosa has a much better resume. So it's definitely an upgrade. With the 9M cost the Cubs are on the hook with Floyd for 22M/2 yr. That leaves the Mets, O's Rangers, Cub, Tigs all wanting to sign Maggs. Damn! He would have looked good at the Cell: Delgado LHB, career 282A, 336HR, 1058RBI. In 04 he hit 269.
-
They have exceeded us in creativity. Delgado gets 4M/05, 13.5M/06, 14.5M/07, 16M/08. There is a complex 5th yr option. If he plays at an MVP caliber level all 4 yrs he can earn 16M/09. If he fails to do that but is a LCS MVP or WS MVP he can still earn the 16M/09. If he fails to do that as well he'll either earn 12M/09 or be bought out for 4M. I doubt very much he will achieve what he needs to earn 16M/09. If he does Cub fans should just shoot themselves because the Marlins will have won the WS twice in this decade. So this really looks more like a 60M/5 yr deal. That's pretty savy of Loria. Congrats! Yet another signing that leaves me scratching my head why not the White Sox? I know you all love Konerko but he is no Delgado. Nor is Maggs. We were willing to give this same $ to Maggs but not to Delgado? This is a contract we could have gotten done. Delgado runs much better than Koney. The Sox would have saved 4M in the first year. A new Koney contract is likely to cost an avg of 10-11M/yr. So your paying a litte more for a much great boost in production. Loria get's my vote for the best signing of the off-season. He signed a perenial MVP caliber player to a price comparable to lesser talented players like Drew.
