I bought the CD with that song, just for that song. I also have about 1/2 dozen books on the sinking and have read many websites about the crew and the sinking. One book pissed me off so much that I refused to finish it. Everytime I hear that song, I choke up a little. My dad was offered a job on the ships right before this happened, but didn't take it - he said it was too long for him to be away from home. And after the US Steel closed, he regretted it a bit.

Southsideirish, why are you taking it so personally that there are at least three people here (steff, mreye and myself) that whole-heartedly disagree with you? To have endurance, you really need to be in shape. You are enduring as much as 140F temps in those cars while clad in heat resistant suits and a large helmet.

Bobby M with the Ms I stumbled on this while doing a search after seeing something on another sight and it turns out I went to grammar school with this guy. He was a wild child, but a really nice guy at the same time. It's great to see someone from grammar school become a pro ballplayer!

It's also when I found out my phone service is out (and might not be back until Saturday night - freaking SBC) - I went to leave the song on my answering machine and that f***ing voice told me my line was being checked for problems...
