Not a bad deal. He's a decent bench guy and good clubhouse guy. That's pretty much what you want from a 5th OF. I just hope Ozzie doesn't think he's an everyday player.
-
With Ibanez signing in Philly, that's one less guy on the Angels list of potential bats. If Tex signs with someone else, they will be very limited and will certainly look to the Sox. I've thought all along that Abreu would be on the Sox next year and hopefully it's to replace Konerko with Dye moving to 1b. Move Konerko for Weaver and Figgins, sign Abreu, and move Dye to 1B.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
Lemon_44 replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This trade will probably go through. Then KW moves on to his next moves and fills all the remaining holes in the lineup. First off,he signs Furcal. Then, he trades Broadway for Tavares. Finally,in his last move,he swaps Jenks to the Brewers for Corey Hart. The Sox just got younger, cheaper, and better. THe lineup looks like: SS-Furcal 2b-Ramirez LF-Quentin DH-Thome RF-Hart 1b-Konerko C-AJ 3b-Fields CF-Tavares bench:Betemit, Getz,BA, Wise/Owens,backup C SP:MB,Floyd, Danks, Bailey, Marquez/Poreda RP:Marquez/Poreda,Russel/Carasco,Dotel, Thornton, Linebrink,Link(??) -
Speculation: Is this a precursor to a Peavy Deal?
Lemon_44 replied to Fotop's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Peavy's price tage has had to drop significantly. The Braves are out and the Cubs have said they are out. Those were the two main suitors to drive his price tag up. They said they want a young,MLB ready pitcher. Start with Richard and see where it goes. -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) This team is no different really from last year with Dunn in the lineup. No thanks. Tavares in CF I can see. But not Dunn. Puts us back in the same old plodding HR hitting funk which people have b****ed about the past few year. How about Abreu instead of Dunn, bat him second, and move Getz to 9th. For some reason,i think we'll sign either Dunn or Abreu. I know most people want Furcal but i can't see KW spending the money on him with all the middle infield prospects he's acquired.

Here's what i can see happening. I think Broadway gets dealt for Tavares. I wouldn't be surprised if that hasn't already been agreed on. I think Dye gets moved to the Reds. If money is the issue in this trade maybe we send Dye,either BA or Owens, and maybe Lillibridge to the Reds for Bailey and either Arroyo or Harang. That would even the money out a little bit. Then the Sox sign Dunn in free agency. That would give us a team looking like: SP-Buehrle, Floyd,Danks, Harang, and Bailey/Poreda/Marquez/Richard bullpen:Thornton,Linebrink, loser of the 5th spot,Russel,Dotel, Jenks Lineup: CF-Tavares 2b-Getz RF-Quentin LF-Dunn DH-Thome 1B-Konerko SS-Alexei C-AJ 3B-Fields bench players: Betemit, Nix,backup C, Owens/BA, Wise

FWIW, me and my buddy(Reds fan) talked to Jim Day at the Blue Jackets game last night. He does the Reds pre-game show, along with the Blue Jackets, and we asked if he had heard any info on the Reds off season. He said to look for Jermaine Dye to be on the Reds. Dusty Baker loves him and wants him on the team badly. Again, take it with a grain of salt, but that's what we were told.
-
I'd like it to be a bigger deal with Brandon Phillips in there somehow. I'm in Oho and i get every abot evry Reds game. Bailey didn't impress me at all. Granted, he's young but he shows nothing other than a fastball, unless you want to include a high fastball. I've talked to a couple of my die hard Reds fans and they would be ecstatic to get Dye straight up for Bailey.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) There's no way Viciedo will be the starting RF in 2009. He doesn't have nearly as much experience at that position as he does at 3B. Think Josh Fields/LF Experiment and 5X worse and that's what you might have...if he's in better shape and spends all ST working on the outfield, maybe...but they're not going to trade JD based on the supposition that Viciedo will be the starting RFer simply based on having a strong throwing arm (reportedly). i doubt that he will be either but it can't/shouldn't surprise anyone if he is. Who thought Ramirez would be the 2b last year? Besides,i didn't mean they were trading JD to open a spot for Viciedo. I meant using him to acquire Reyes. With the money saved,KW could get viable OF on the market to play LF/RF until a youngster is ready.
-
Broadway for Tavares and then Kenny makes his blockbuster trade sending Dye, Jenks ,and Vasquez to the Mets for Reyes and Heilman. The lineup looks like: SS-Reyes 2B-Alexei LF-Quentin DH-Thome 1b-Konerko RF-Viciedo 3b-Fields C-AJ CF-Tavares

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:30 AM) Don't understand the bolded part at all. I agree. I don't get all the Josh Fields hate. Last year at this time,he was the next big thing to hit Chicago. Now,he's trade fodder. I think he'll have a very nice year. Last year he was supposedly very limited because of injury and noticeably heavier. Fields will be the opening day 3b. He would've been last year if Crede wasn't around. If Viciedo is on the team next year,i think he will be in RF after Dye gets moved.

QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) Justin Morneau is the most overrated player in baseball. Period. I agree. I wouldn't even have considered him. Maybe the writers put alot of stock in the HR hitting contest.

Some more names that might make sense to KW
Lemon_44 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I can say there's not one name on that list that would excite me. -
If he was an all-star,at 16,in Cuba's highest level then the guy definitely has alot of talent. It sounds like any drop off can be attached to his weight gain. You would think that could be fixed rather easily. I doubt he'd be on the opening day roster but get him on a workout regimen and see what happens. He could be up by 2010.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 03:09 AM) You can't be serious?!? Danks?!?...uhhhhhhh no. I probably wouldn't do that trade either but i was making a point that Reyes,or anyone for that matter, is tradeable if someone wants to give up alot.
-
QUOTE (beautox @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 06:09 AM) Floyd + Jenks for Reyes and Murphy, would you pull the trigger? in a second.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) Because 25 year old SS that bring to the table what Reyes brings to the table do not get traded, especially from teams with an almost unlimited budget. Why would the Mets trade him for Jenks a guy if they have him 2 years from now will be making money that K-Rod and Fuentes are asking for if he's still successful, and create a huge hole at SS? They could just sign the FA and have Reyes play SS. How many SS do as many things as this guy? They would be crazy to trade him and won't unless maybe KW wants to add Ramirez and Danks with Jenks. Then I suppose its possible. This isn't X-Box. There is absolutely no reason for Minaya to even consider trading Reyes. Ozzie Smith and Garry Templeton were traded . Hanley Ramirez was traded. Renteria was pretty highly thought of when Florida traded him. Miguel Cabrera, just last year. was thought of as much,if not more than, Reyes. I know none of those guys were on a team with the Mets revenue but i'm just saying,it's not like great players never get moved. I agree,Reyes probably won't be on the Sox, but it's not an impossiblity. Especially with a team with the picthing mess the Mets are. YOu can't tell me the Mets wouldn't even consider a package of Jenks, Danks, Javy for Reyes.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) There is absolutely no way Reyes comes to the Sox in a deal for Jenks. NO WAY. If it took Reyes to get Jenks, they would settle for one of the FA pitchers and overpay them immensely. You know this how? I didn't say Jenks for Reyes straight up. I'm willing to say that any deal that brings us Reyes would include Jenks.
-
"As we stand here TODAY" is the only meaningful part of that quote.
-
Did anyone watch the Mets bullpen blow save after save after Wagner went down? Jenks probably has more value to them than any other team in MLB. If he gets traded it will be in a package for either Reyes(my guess), Beltran(maybe), or Wright(doubtful). I remember Steve Phillips saying KW's first question to him always was, what's it going to take to get Reyes. The Sox could make the transition to a speed team rather quickly with just a few moves. Just because it's been mentioned alot, let's say the Sox move Konerko for Figgins. Then trade Broadway for Tavares after acquiring Reyes. They would field a linup that looks like: Reyes-SS Figgins-3B Qentin-LF Dye-RF Thome-DH Ramirez-2B Swisher-1B AJ-C Tavares-CF

MOney is no issue to the Yankees and they need some pop at 1B. How about looking to deal PK to the Yanks for Melky Cabrera and Ian Kennedy. I don't know how Kennedy is thought of in NY since he stunk it up last year. Cabrera also had a down year but showed alot of promise in '06 and '07. He's only 24,switch hits, has some pop, and can steal a couple bases for you. Cabrera takes over in CF and Swish goes to 1b.
-
Use Jenks in a deal to get Beltran from the Mets.Of course, they could just go out and sign K-rod.
-
KW is telling the truth. Remember last spring training,he didn't want to send Fields down but basically had to with Crede being healthy. Last off season everyone was ready to hand Fields the job. Why not this year? He had an injury plagued year and needs to get in better shape. I think he'll be fine at 3B.Say he hits .260/30 HR/80-100 RBI, how could you not be happy with that? I'd at least give him first shot to see what he can do.
-
if it's surprise or "shocking" deal,i don't think it's any deal involving PK,Javy, or JD. Everyone thinks they'll shopped around. I would guess it would be shopping Jenks around. The guys has been lights out from day 1 and the only consistent guy in the pen. With the high value placed on closers and Jenks relatively small salary, you could get a very good return for him. That being said, i don't trade him unless it's a completely mind-blowing offer. The Mets an Braves come to mind as teams that need a closer. How about a blockbuster with Jenks and Beltran,Reyes,or Wright, being the main cogs.

I'd like to see Burnett signed through free agency, trade Javy to somebody, and then make a deal for Matt Cain. SF needs alot of help and Cain can get them some good pieces of the puzzle. That would give us a rotation of Burnett, MB, JD,Cain, and Floyd. That would be as good as anyone in the league.
