QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) And changing the lineup which leads baseball in runs isn't going to change anything either. The only thing that could happen is it could get worse. Or it could start putting up more runs consistently, instead of having our standard 12 run game followed by a 5 run game followed by a 3 run game.

Who will be the best QB in the league this year?

JP LOSMAN, EVERYONE ELSE JUST SUCKS -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) Runs scored: 1. White Sox 619 2. Red Sox 600 Leave the offense alone. Why fix what isn't broken, right? Well, against lefties, the top of the order is broken. We've been pisspoor against lefties all year, so a slight adjustment wouldn't hurt. In fact, I wouldn't even be against just flipflopping Konerko and Thome. PK is more prone to GIDPing, so you have that added factor in when Podsednik and Iguchi actually do get on base, but he has just destroyed LHP this year(.347 BA, 1.128 OPS, plus he homers once every 12 PAs against LHP). You have PK hit 3rd, Thome 4th, and Dye 5th, and that makes it a hell of a lot harder on the opposing manager. This team seems like it's one slight adjustment away from just getting hotter than all hell. Perhaps juggling the 3-4-5 may do it.

Someone needs to inform Cleveland that Detroit's pitching staff is supposed to suck balls. And them someone needs to convince both Cleveland and Detroit that Cleveland's pitching staff is like the best in the majors.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:16 AM) Man, I'm probably the most optimistic person on this board ( well, outside of Jphat, Heads and Kap), but I don't see it happening for Freddy. It would be different if it was just mental. But dude's stuff just isn't there. It hasn't been all year. I'm happy when Freddy can give us 6 innings and 4 earned runs. It really is sad. It's hard to figure out WTF exactly happened too, and that's the worst part of it. Just gotta hope he has some trade value left come the offseason, because I am not sure how exactly he could be on this team come next year.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 11:17 PM) Defense and your ability to play it is the one thing that "crusty old scouts" are still needed for IMO. Statistical analysis in regards to pitchers and batting are very important, however the skills (or lack thereof) are something that for the most part you need to watch for yourself in order to decide. That is also why often times you can get big arguments as to how good a defender is or isn't, since stats are so deceiving in that regard. There are just way too many friggin variables to determine how good a player is defensively statistically. The tendency of a pitching staff(GB/FB/K) can swing stats, the size of the park can, the strength of the offenses and pitching staffs within said players division and even league, the quality of the defense of the LFer and RFer(hell even the 2Bman and SS)...you factor in all that, plus however much other stuff you can figure, and then maybe you can have a stat that helps indicate one way or another...and regardless of that, you still have to have eyes to see if your stats are backing you up or not.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:09 AM) Mark has been, well, Mark since 2001. Not a good comparison. However, Javy, IMO, had the best single start of any of our starters this year. That was pure, filthy dominance. Now, the trick will be to string 3 or 4 of these type of starts together. And then to convince Garcia to try and do the same thing

It's his first quality start in a month and a half Hell of a start, but I'm not gonna love him cuz of 1 great start.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) Yeah. Even despite that he's still not quite qualified to polish Chuck Norris's shoes. He is, however, qualified to receive a customary Norris roundhouse for Christmas though

QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) You probably didn't watch, but Dmitri Young had 3( should have been 4 errors), and even though the runs ended up being earned, without those errors he would have been out of many innings. I know I saw Travis Lee hit a ball 450 feet. No fielder is gonna stop that ball unless he has a rocket up his ass.

QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) Rogers wasn't horrible I am not exactly sure how 5 runs in 5 IP against the DRays isn't horrible. Not sure it matters, that's a huge friggin lead they have. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 09:55 PM) Maybe he could, but I doubt Detroit is gonna pitch him every 5th day now since he is entering unwanted territory in innings. So they could have a good losing streak before he pitches but I'm not sold on him since he does struggle against the big boy teams. If there is anyone who can stop a streak its Mr. Bonderman. I don't know why Leyland would, unless Verlander comes up sore or just starts getting rocked. Sure it's not territory Verlander's ever been in, but Leyland is old school, I doubt he gives two spiffs. I also don't think I'd call Bonderman a streak stopper. The guy's a good pitcher with some pretty solid stuff, but I don't think I'd go as far as basically declaring him an ace.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 4, 2006 -> 02:16 AM) Chone Figgins, yes? Of the career .344 OBP variety? If we're going to go after the super-utility type player, please let it be the better one, Ryan Freel. Gotta disagree there. However, if Freel knew how to stay sober, I'd probably agree.

The last 3 responses bring up a fair question...which is weaker long-term, the Sox starting pitching quality, or the leadoff hitter? I can't make up my mind, cuz I think they're both very weak, and I could potentially see a Garcia, Podsednik, and Fields for Peavy deal atleast being discussed. I'm not sure I can see Garcia being packaged along with Podsednik for anything from Tampa Bay.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) Angels were dumb enough to pitch to Frank and he had a single that tied the game for about an inning late in last night's game. Also drew a walk off ROdriguez in the 9th (leadoff variety) but than Krod struck out the side. I actually gave Frank a big ass ovation when they announced him and I'll be doing the same today. Its funny too, cause I've booed him on ocassions as well. You are so not a White Sox fan now that you booed Frank

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 05:28 PM) 2 Javy Lopez' on one roster...chaos Even worse, you could have a battery of Javy Lopez and Javy Lopez. MLB should reject the trade for that reason alone.

QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 3, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Billy Koch. He lost his fastball in less than half a year. He had it in October with the A's and didn't have it the next March with the Sox. He got his fastball back in 2004 though. He was consistently hitting 94-97 on the gun, he just had absolutely no control of it at all and was very ineffective.

I plan on getting spifftydrunk while watching the Sox get spifftydrunk celebrating back-to-back World Series championships

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Id say every year it really should be between Chicago and New York. You cant count LA because they dont have a NFL team and its their own fault too. Didn't the Red Sox and Patriots win their respective sports' championships in the same year, as well as like the Celtics winning their division? Oh yeah, that's right I hate almost anything East Coast sports, but give a city it's due when it's necessary.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) Mark needs to step up big tomorrow, thats for sure. If there's a team out there that could help MB get his crap together against, it's KC. He's pitched extremely well against them both times out. He may not get a ton of run support though...they scored 3 runs in both of those games(though they did win both of those games...our pitching was actually decent in April and May) -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 12:40 AM) what that im not a blind homer and when another team has a 7 1/2 game lead and we been playing like crap I dont think atm we will over-take them. Right now we are behind the Yanks in the loss column in the wildcard race... so thinking about overtaking the Tigers takes 2nd to that. You obviously did not watch much of the past 4 games The O's and Royals are not good teams, but the Sox did not play like crap.

I would agree with everything Jordan has said in this thread

QUOTE(JackTalkThai @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) You're comparing a guy who's a career .283 BA, .330 OBP, 7 HR, 47 RBI, 21 BB, 51 K (162 game averages...229 career games) to someone who has career averages of .304 BA, .371 OBP, 17 HR, 90 RBI, 59 BB, 68 K (162 game averages...1,140 career games) Exaggerate much? DUDE GLOAD SO JUST HIT A CLUTCH HOMER NOT EVEN LIKE 4 DAYS AGO SO HE IS LIKE 10 TIMES BETTERER THAN SHAWWWN CASEY

I know Krivsky used to be in Minnesota and all, but sweet jesus has he taken in a lot of former Minnesota players. Off the top of my head, Castro, Mays, Guardado, and Lohse have all been brought in in the past like month or two, and I'm almost positive I'm missing 1 or 2(and this is not counting Grant Balfour, who was in Cinci before Krivsky took office). It's not a bad deal for either team...Lohse is just taking up oxygen in Minnesota, but he has a good arm, and much of the NL has not seen him. He's gotta chance to be a really solid #3 down the stretch for Cinci.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) Cooper can't simply be assigned a pitcher; he has to spot his prey, and pursue it himself. You can't bring a Matt Thornton to Cooper and say, "Fix!" He has to say, "I want him brung!" i loooooove it when you analyze
