  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) Definately has a better throwing arm than Scott... He won't get picked off as much as Podsednik either, I will guarantee you that.
  2. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) I highly doubt Philly's gonna dump him though... I wouldn't think so, but I have seen organizations make dumber moves in the past. San Francisco trading Liriano, Nathan, and Bonser for Pierzynski? San Francisco non-tendering Pierzynski? I dunno, those are both pretty dumb to me. /another necessary potshot at Brian Sabean
  3. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) Bert's record is 50 HR in 1986 (either the year before or after he gave up something like 48 or 49) He is the Twins TV color guy, and he was talking about his 5 HR game (also in 86), he said he pitched a complete game and got the win. Bert's a hell of a color guy. A bit on the eccentric side, but he's Dutch, so what do you expect? I remember him saying something like 40-42 of the homers he gave up that year were solo shots, and that he really had a pretty good year, other than giving up 50 homers. I'd say I have to agree with him. 17-14, 4.01, 1.18 WHIP with a solid K/9 and K/BB...he just got terrorized with the home run. He also had 16 complete games that year. That just seems friggin crazy by today's standards.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) Does Jim Thome hustle, bust his ass, and want to win? Touche. I should have clarified that I was never criticizing KW for making the move, just that losing Rowand probably hurt more than we initially realized. I loved the move, and still do. However, Thome's philosophy offensively is to hit the ball as hard as you can, and to try and hit homers. The rest of the offense has taken on this mindset, and thus you do not see grinderball or smallball anymore, with the exception of Podsednik occasionally trying to steal a base, and getting picked off of first base like an assclown. We are very 1-dimensional offensively.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) He might have been the motivation that this team has lacked this season. I think he is. KW, before the 2004 season, wanted to go get some "grinders." Grinders were guys who didn't put up good stats, but hustled, busted their ass, and wanted to win. We shipped the original grinder out of town for the offense you are looking at now.
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) Wouldn't work, sorry. Taking a pitcher out early isn't the smartest thing for him, or for the team, and just hurts it in the long run. It takes confidence away from the pitcher (although thats probably overrated) Hail no it doesn't take confidence away from him. You pull a young kid who's trying to figure out how to pitch in the big leagues after 5 after he gives up a leadoff single in the 6th when he has 85 pitches, then you are taking confidence away from him. Every pitcher in the White Sox rotation has been around the block, they know what it takes, and if they need their egos massaged, they can get the flying fish out of town. I would love something like this to happen. Your bullpen is completely burnt for the next 4 days, yes, but you are embarrassing the holy piss out of whoever is pulled. You think anyone likes being embarrassed, especially these 8 digit figure pitchers? Tell them to STFU and do their job, or they won't pitch. Period.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) Well, I'll get s*** for this, but I don't want him getting hurt for 2 1/2 months of the year trying to make a single play if he comes back to this team. We all love the intensity, yes. But catching a fly ball in the 5th inning just isn't worth sitting out a big percentage of the season. I saw more intensity from Rowand in that third of an inning than I've seen from the entire White Sox team in about a month and a half. f***ing go get him. Be it starting, getting 300 ABs off the bench, acting as a cheerleader, whatever, so be it...bring his ass back here. This team needs some kind of spark, it may as well be Rowand.
  8. Do I have to stop dreaming about Crawford in LF?
  9. Time to start ERNIE YOUNG FOR IL MVP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 09:51 PM) Quick stat I heard: When Podsednik swings and puts the first pitch of the AB into play, his batting average is about .140. That's ungodly low. That is a stat Podsednik should hear. And hear again. And again. He should also then be beaten with the PFC every time he even thinks about swinging at the first pitch.
  11. QUOTE(brijames @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) Tigers will win 3 of these 4 and the race for the Central Title will be over. Any questions? What is the meaning of life?
  12. I will never speak badly about Justin Verlander ever again I swear I swear I swear
  13. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) I saw a stat on Baseball Tonight over the weekend that said the best Team ERA position the Rockies have ever had is second worst Just researched it a little... Low ERAs by Rockies starters Marvin Freeman - 2.80 in 112.2 IP(1994) Joe Kennedy - 3.66 in 162.1 IP(2004) Jef Francis - 3.38 in 159.2 IP(2006) Jason Jennings - 3.32 in 178.2 IP(2006) Isn't that something
  14. Just curious, has Colorado ever had a team ERA in the top 5 this late in the season? Their 4.09 team ERA is currently 4th best in the majors.
  15. QUOTE(Beltin @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) I am not sure you should put the A's or Angels in the top tier just yet. The A's are 25-11 since the ASB, and have a better record than Boston. They have the 5th best ERA in the majors, and it's 2nd best in the AL. FWIW...
  16. Vazquez is NOT going anywhere. KW's been after him since the 02-03 offseason, he tried to get him from New York when he went to Arizona, and he finally did get him. He wouldn't give him up after a year, let alone halfway into August when every dependable arm is necessary. Vazquez is about the only starter I'm positive will not be moved, now or in the offseason. KW's not going to trade a player he called a future all-star for a rent-a-starter.
  17. Mainly cuz I'm always a bit more on the optimistic side, but, even in losing the series, the Sox escape Minnesota with the Wild Card lead. Going into every series you hope for atleast 2 of 3 and want the sweep in everyone of them, but seeing as how they laid a dud against Boof, one almost had to figure a sweep was in order, and that the Sox would not be leading the Wild Card heading to Detroit. Seeing as how Minnesota is still behind us, the Sox still control their own fate. If they were to go into Detroit and take 3 of 4, it's a guarantee that they're atleast tied for the Wild Card lead, and there's a good chance that they're still up on the Wild Card, along with being only 3.5 out in the division, which is obviously much easier to overcome. If somehow the Sox get lucky and sweep Detroit, not only do they still lead the Wild Card, but the deficit in the division is a meager 1.5 and Detroit heads further into their tailspin. Also, a positive sign to see is Javy not blowing up late in the game. He did obviously have his blowup early in the game, but to me atleast, it's encouraging that he was able to get through 7 without much other damage going on. The O did absolutely nothing, but not offenses do hit Santana...you're usually lucky to get 2 runs. There aren't many positives, but I hope this series is similar to the Cleveland series last year where Rally Crede was born. People don't seem to remember that we lost that series, but had we been swept, we would have lost the division lead and who the hell knows what would have happened beyond that point. Given, it was much later in the year, but I tend to view both these series similarily. Regardless, the next bit of business on the agenda is Detroit. It's not a necessity, but it would be extremely nice if 3 of 4 were taken, and a sweep would be absolutely huge.
  18. I still to this day feel Garland is our ballsiest pitcher. Love him to death.
  19. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 20, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) He's no blue chipper, but for as much as everybody b****es about the guy he is only one of eight guys from the 2005 draft to make it to at least triple A. Ryan Zimmerman never made it to AAA. Not really arguing, just thought I'd point it out.
  20. They tried a couple years ago to sign Moyer. They were also hard after Tom Glavine that year too, and it seemed like he was pretty much set and ready to go to Philly, and the Mets came up with an offer. They then sent Estrada to Atlanta for Millwood. As I recall, the Sox were also very interested in Moyer, but no such luck. As far as the move is concerned...gives them some consistent innings out of the rotation, gives them a guy with some fire in his belly, even if he is old for pitchers, due to the fact that he's never won a Series. With as much love as 40+ Johnson, Clemens, Wells, and Rogers get, Moyer gets none. He's always solid, and probably always will be. Hell, the guy could pitch till he's 50 if he really wanted to.
  21. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Again, if you sign him long term that means that 7 years from right now, you would be paying him around $11 million dollars. Does that seem wise to you? No, it honestly doesn't. Every point you've brought up has been very good. Sure Crede's had a breakout year, but he's also had mad protection in the lineup, and he's getting to the years in his career where his play can start to dictate his yearly income. I've heard(read) nothing but good things out of Crede's mouth about staying in Chicago and how Boras won't dictate where he goes, but at this point in time, Boras is still his agent, and he hasn't fired him yet. His back is a major concern also. How many great, diving stops can one bad back take? I love Crede to death, he's easily one of my favorite players on this team, and while he brings something to the table on both sides of the ball, I'm not sure he's really a guy you can build a team around, regardless of the condition of his back. If he were willing to do it 4 years at a time, I'm sure something could be worked out, but anything beyond that is sketchy at best.
  22. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 07:42 PM) Fixed that. lol, because of one month, when Buerhle has had a history of having just absolutely pisspoor months...riiiiiight Buehrle is easily the best pitcher we have. Contreras, Garland, Garcia, Vazquez, and everyone in the bullpen pitch well because of stuff. Buehrle has jacks*** for stuff, and yet he has a $9.5 mill option that's going to be picked up. I wonder why that is...?
  23. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Aug 19, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Podsednik is also on pace for his lowest output since his first full year in the majors. Him f***ing up his hamstring last year hasn't helped that at all
  24. Trade him to the Mets with John Snyder for Jose Valentin and El Duque
  25. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) They are helping the Red Sox, helping them fall further from contention. Hinske sucks major ass. He is of no help to the Red Sox at all. Come on now. I dunno, I guess I'm the only one that would take a .294/.376/.575/.951 line with 21 XBH's in 181 PAs against RHP.
