  1. this umpire crew is a friggin joke
  2. I wish I could have been Paul Lo Duca when he was doing her, but other than that, I'm glad I'm not Paul Lo Duca.
  3. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) Well, basicially, IMO...we have alot of young pitchers(as close as you can get to too many...our low A rotation is made up of 1st rounders), we can deal for Garcia for one year, offer him arby, and get the picks he brings back and signs elsewhere. Then, in 2008, Marceaux, Sinkbeil, Jose Garcia, or someone else can take his place in the rotation. So why sure we dealt Nolasco and another, but we are likely to get two picks back. The only thing I wouldn't be completely sure of is the draft picks. Garcia makes $10 mill in '07, and for him to decline arbitration, he would probably have to get another offer similar to the one he got from Chicago(3 years, $27 mill). If everything went smooth sailing in Florida, he probably would get that(and I think everything would), but if it doesn't, you guys would be in a bit of trouble as he would probably accept arbitration, and then it becomes good luck trading him. Of course, they could also just cut their losses at that point, which would probably be the best road if Garcia was that bad.
  4. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) My only point with that was that Moss alone doesn't make a great receiving group. To some extent that's true, but the other guys still have to be able to make plays in their own rights. They still have to be able to get open and make the catch. That simply wasn't the case with a lot of Minnesota's receivers. Moss has a big impact, but he can't turn just any junk into gold. Otherwise he'd have put up better numbers in Oakland last year, or someone besides Carter would have been a bigger threat for the Vikings, or someone besides TO would have been a productive receiver for the Eagles. An elite receiver certainly helps the cause, but the other guys still have to produce. That didn't happen all that often in Minnesota. Since we're talking about Moss...is it possible that he's lost his "title"(or whatever you want to call it) as a top 2 receiver in the league? I didn't watch him play much last year, but in his last year in Minnesota, he seemed to be a pretty mediocre receiver, and a lot of that had to do with a hamstring injury. To relate injuries from one sport to another, Scott Podsednik has not been the same player, period, since his hamstring injury late last year. For those who watched Moss play in Oakland last year, was he a little more ineffective due to a little loss in speed?
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) He's been on my ass for a while. Who cares? And I'm sure a whole lot of people were sure not to be too overconfident. I bet even more did a lot of stupid things in order not to jinx the team. Did not shave during the ALDS. Shaved between the ALDS and the ALCS. The Sox then lost game 1. I then did not shave until October 28th. I was pretty scruffy looking with hair on my chin, a little Morrison-stache going on, and some weakass sideburns. I was pretty glad that the World Series ended in 4 games.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 02:32 AM) Want to place a little wager on that? OH SNAP and yeah, this thread could pretty much die until like October when the World Series starts too. Unless it's the Little League World Series, in which case it's in the wrong forum.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Take lessons? Heck, I would imagine that one of the big reasons those 3 guys are so screwed up is that they found themselves on teams that were winning fairly early in their careers, and overpushed their arms/pitched through some pain. Prior in 03, Wood in 98 and 03, not so sure about Burnett in 03. Jeff Torborg fished with Burnett in 02. 7 complete games while walking 90 in 204 innings on the year just sounds like a hell of a lot of friggin pitches, and with his delivery and stuff, your arm is not going to take too kindly to that.
  8. Paulie was just awesome tonight. He did a great job of hitting the ball where it was pitched.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) Ehh I think most people *raises hand* figured Frank could still hit IF he could stay healthy, but most people also *raises hand* thought there was no way in hell Frank could stay this healthy for another season. Great to see him doing well though, like I said I can live with this if he gets to 500 homers and locks a spot in the HOF (although I think he is in already). there is not a word I disagree with in this post Hopefully the 500 homers assures him of a first ballot selection. He should be a first ballot selection
  10. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) On this day: 8-8-2006 the Sox regained their Championship magic! GO SOX!! Don't stop now- lets win this series! the hell with winnings...sweep their arses
  11. Atleast the umps called and equally horrible game on both parts. Man were they bad tonight. Good thing the Sox pulled it out. I was running around naked during the 11th, and I didnt want to get left hanging.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) I wouldn't complain at all if he did, but I still haven't heard good things about his work up in Buffalo. And I'm still not confident in the offensive line in front of him. I'm not either. I would be surprised if the Bills aren't looking at a top 5, or even top 3, pick next year. And it almost looked like the organization was turning around after the 04-05 season too. Just too friggin bad they couldn't beat the Steelers 2nd team.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 12:45 AM) There is a lot of truth in this. It's amazing how many times our starters are giving up like 2 runs in the 7th inning, and that's really blowing up their ERAs. I would love to know what the team ERA is by inning. For your, ehh, pleasure(?)...it's close enough I figure... Pitcher 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Mark Buehrle 9.00 2.05 6.14 3.00 5.40 6.00 1.46 1.50 0.00 Jose Contreras 4.29 1.71 1.29 5.57 3.00 6.05 4.30 5.79 0.00 Jon Garland 5.14 3.86 3.00 6.00 4.71 8.44 3.48 2.70 27.00 Freddy Garcia 4.50 3.27 3.68 5.32 9.00 3.00 5.79 4.50 -- Javier Vazquez 3.43 1.71 4.71 0.00 9.00 10.42 16.88 3.38 --
  14. Jerry Manuel didn't make adjustments? The same Jerry Manuel who batted Frank Thomas in the 2 hole? The same Jerry Manuel who used like 120 different friggin lineups in the same season? The same Jerry Manuel who put Magglio Ordonez in CF? If Manuel were still in charge, we would have seen Balta's suggestion in the 2nd week of the season
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) Thomas is up to a .259/.380/.526 line; yes, his OPS is over the .900 mark. I wish he could play left field
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) You may not think it's good enough but I'd say most Sox fans especially I would absolutely LOVE such a deal. The Mad Dog's velocity has been slipping so he's not going to last long in the AL but he could more than likely dominate the NL East especially in his first season. Vargas and Petit would be outstanding. You think Tampa would like Vargas and Petit at all?
  17. Mock was the 7th best prospect in the DBacks system, as rated by BA, before the season. He's struggled this year a little bit(4.90 ERA, 135 H, 13 HR, 111 K, 48 BB in 125 IP), but he's 23 so he's still probably a decent prospect. Chico was having a very good year in A(2.22 ERA, 62 H, 6 HR, 63 K, 21 BB in 81 IP), was then promoted to AA and produced pretty well there as well(3.75 ERA, 48 H, 5 HR, 49 K, 11 BB in 50.1 IP), and he too is 23, so the Nats got a pretty good return for a pitcher having a bad year. And you guys are trying to tell me Garcia and Vazquez have no value. It's a decreased value, but they have value all the same.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) The thing I keep thinking about is that there always seems to be 1-2 QB's who come out of nowhere every year to have great years, like Hasselbeck last year, for example. Or Kurt Warner, Jake Delhomme his first year, hell even Tom Brady. So, I'm just trying to think, aside from Peyton and Brady, who out there has the weapons and system around them to really come out and be dynamite. JP LOSMAN, DUH
  19. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) Is Jerry Owens' your starting CFer? pwned
  20. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) If not from our minors, two venues I imagine our club competing with those pitchers is from free-agent signings and trading prospects/players for established veterans. You can cite Garcia's success -- and the failures of past prospects traded -- but when a Javier Vazquez move occurs you begin to think about making drastic moves to bolster a rotation. You must also receive prolonged success. Garcia put up a good year for the Sox last year, but he was mediocre in coming to Chicago(something like an ERA to the tune of 4.48), and he has been bad this year. I'm still not entirely sure you can write off Vazquez either. Contreras was horrible his first two months in Chicago, was good the next two, horrible the next two, and he turned into a horse that helped us win a World Series in the 3 following that. It takes time for pitchers to adjust, and if Vazquez can keep up what he did in his last outing, it may end up worth it in the long haul. I tend to doubt it, as you usually see the law of averages come into play, but if Jason Schmidt can deny the law of averages, so can Javier Vazquez.
  21. Pods seems to be rated just right. Some like him, some don't. He's adequate for this year, so long as he keeps getting on base at about a .350 clip and plays mediocre defense. And he doesn't get picked off. However, I just wanna throw this out there, perhaps start some more conversation...would this offense be more effective with 2 leadoff type guys at the top pf the order? Say, for sharts and gaggles, the Sox were to ship out a package for Crawford, and he becomes the left fielder, and then the Sox were to trade Uribe and sign Julio Lugo to a whatever contract. Would that be fine at the top of the order? I mean, if the leadoff hitter is the spark to the lineup and he is what makes it go, why not bring in two? Your odds for one of them being hot and being able to spark the team increases greatly, plus it adds a little speed, and shouldn't take much away defensively(it would improve LF, though I'm not exactly sure how Lugo compares to Uribe).
  22. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) I have been a White Sox fan for 30 years but trading for Vazquez was one of the worst I have ever seen, and believe me I have seen some bad ones over the years. Because Duque has done so much with Arizona and now New York, Vizcaino turned into one of the best middle relievers in the NL, and Chris Young is a blooming superstar, while Vazquez has been horrendous for years on the South Side. You won't be able to tell if this is one of the worst trades in team history for years. KW liked Vazquez enough that he traded his top prospect for him(given, that's completely arguable, but Young probably was our best all-around prospect at the time he was dealt). Give it more than 4 months to determine if it's one of the worst trades in years...that is all I ask. Hell, regardless of how well he pitches from here on out, he will probably end up pitching in some pretty big games down the stretch, and perhaps even the postseason if the Sox are lucky enough to get there. Wait till then.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Now that's an idea I'd be more willing to listen to. It keeps the murderers 3 together, gives JD extra at bats, and kills off the LOOGY thing. Balta suggested Pods, Goochi, Dye, Thome, Konerko From what I can gather of that, it keeps the murderers 3 together, gives JD extra at bats, and kills the LOOGY thing...not nearly to the point that Cheat's does, but it does it. Cheat...in theory, I'd like your suggestion, but I don't think there's a chance in hell Ozzie even considers it. His #2 guy is getting on base when the leadoff man isn't, and he's getting him over when he gets him on(though I'm not nearly sure how true that's been this year).
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) Do you have any statistical evidence to support this?? And also, we should win when we score 5 runs, and we should win when we lead 3-0 early. So you want the offense to be more consistent? This argument is mind boggling, sometimes good pitching goes against us and we only score 3. That happens to EVERY TEAM, you can't score 5 or more every game, and you know what?? If our pitching wasn't so mediocre, we'd win some of the games we only score 3 in. We should win when we score 5, but even good pitching allows 6 runs in a game now and then. We had the best pitching staff in the league last year, and I'm pretty sure there were games when the Sox staff allowed 6 or even 7 runs. I don't have actual statistical evidence, at this point, to support it, but that's cuz I have to work in like 5 minutes. I'll try and get back to it later, or perhaps someone else will be able to before I do. That's just what seems like has happened this season, and it has happened in the past when we had a great offense too.
  25. QUOTE(Jake @ Aug 6, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) I only love him for his money. But you are always just in it for the money, you whore
