QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) That would be Ben Davis. Timo actually had to get off of his ass for 179 AB's. That is about 175 too many

"Vince Young will be a 2nd day pick"

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 01:46 AM) When Leinart has 3 Super Bowl rings, I'll allow him a bad big game. Also, Leinart currently has a resume very similar to Dorsey's, eerily similar in fact. I may be wrong about Leinart, and if so bring up this thread and i'll eat my crow, but I doubt that will be the case. 04 Rose Bowl VS Michigan - 23/34, 327 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT 05 Orange Bowl VS Oklahoma - 18/35, 332 yards, 5 TD, 0 INT 06 Rose Bowl VS Texas - 29/40, 365 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT Those are his lines in every bowl game he played in college. I honestly don't see a horribly bad game in there to begin with...but it's also a little point of interest to see that he, you know, kind of had success in big games before too. Is it his fault the USC defense was not capable of shutting down the Texas offense whatsoever? In the end, 38 points should be more than enough points to win a game if your defense has a so-so day...Vince Young flatout manhandled them and took advantage of one of the lone USC weaknesses. The fact that he had won 2 national championships before - albeit one shared national championship - tells me more than I need to know about his big game abilities. The fact remains that Leinart not only has produced much more than Dorsey did in college, but he's also more polished and much more talented overall. If Leinart is anything worse than average, I'll be surprised as hell. -
QUOTE(kevin57 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) I wonder if you may be setting standards a little high. Think of this equation: Rowand + Thomas = Thome + Anderson (speaking only offensively right now) If this does happen, then it would be a wash. Is that a disappointment? Maybe. But if Thome and Anderson out produce what we would have expected from Rowand and Thomas, it's a net gain. If Thome stays healthy, which he should, I see no way in hell Thome and Anderson don't outperform Thomas + Rowand + Everett...Thomas did only play a month and hit like .219, though every other f'in AB seemed like a homer. I am not expecting a lot out of Anderson, quite honestly...I'd be satisfied with .250 10 .320/.400/.720, so long as he plays gold glove caliber defense in CF.

Hoping and praying for Steven Randolph...just cuz he's a crazy bastard.

QUOTE(TheDudeAbides @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) what about strikeouts? Aside from being about the most overrated statistic in the long run...both will probably strike out a lot.

They should just find Jose Offerman again and just get him somehow. I seem to remember him and the Mets being connected this offseason, but maybe that's just because everyone is connected to the Mets this offseason.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) Let me see. Contreras Buehrle Garcia Garland Vazquez vs Zito Harden Haren Loaiza Blanton Well, it doesn't look as one sided when I match em up this way. However, I don't think Loaiza will come close to matching what he did last year. For one, he was in the nl. Two, that was a massive pitchers park he was in. I think you'll see his era well over 4. I still think you have to factor in B-mac. That's a luxury just about no other team has. Our rotation is clearly better. Oakland has Kirk Saarloos, who will serve almost the exact same purpose as BMac. Blanton was also a top 3 pitcher in the second half of last season...Contreras and Santana were the other two. Both teams have very good pitching staffs...I think the pitching staffs are pretty much equal...and the A's remain the favorites in the west, atleast to me. This will be a very fun matchup this year...so long as the Sox don't piss down their leg when they matchup, be it in the regular season or postseason.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 04:40 PM) Tom Brady has much more arm strength than Leinart from what ive seen of both but still... at this point of his career Leinart > what Brady was...... and id say Leinart is the most polished QB coming out of college in a LONG time. Dare I say...Peyton Manning? -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Only 3 super bowl rings as starter to go!! And Brady doesn't make the stupid mistakes that Leinart did in the Texas game. But thanks for playing! Broncos 27, Patriots 13 Their arm strength is very similar, they both make very good decisions as QBs(as opposed to the idea you somehow got that Leinart makes bad decisions based off of 1 f***ing game), they are both very accurate QBs, can both check down and find the open receiver...and on top of that, Leinart has a little more mobility than Brady. Obviously, I'm not suggesting Leinart is the next Tom Brady...but to compare him to Ken Dorsey is a f***ing insult to every scout and draft guru in the world. I guarantee you that Matt Leinart is atleast an average QB in the NFL, something Ken Dorsey will almost never be. But thanks for playing. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) because who else are you going to compare him to as far as playmaking ability with his legs. Steve McNair and Donovan McNabb come to mind...Young is fast, but from what I could tell, he did not have blazing speed. He appeared to have a great ability to know when to run and when to pass though. I see something special in Vince Young, and I think he is going to be a very good pro QB in the NFL. There is something about him that I really like a lot...it's either his physical attributes, his judgment on the field, or his drive to win...or maybe it's all 3. Oh...and to whoever it was that called Leinart the lefthanded Ken Dorsey...I like to refer to him as the left handed Tom Brady. -
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) IMO the best deal would be Carlos Beltran and some pitching prospect for Count straight up... The Sox OF depth in the majors and minors is so great that KW traded 2 OFers away this offseason, and in all reality still could trade another and get away with it. The Sox are also very near their budget limit they will spend, thus making it nearly impossible to add a ton of salary, which would be the case. They would also be going against their philosophy of spreading money around equally(or if one area's getting more money, it is pitching). KW would also be going against his own word and trading for a positional player for Contreras, when he has said numerous times he will take only pitching for Contreras(and this I do believe from KW's mouth). And even after saying all that...there is no way in hell the Mets would do Beltran straight up for Contreras as is. They signed him to a 7 year deal with a full no-trade clause for a reason last offseason, and I'm guessing that reason wasn't to trade him. The Mets could use another very good starting pitcher, sure...but not at the price of Beltran. And the Sox OF is not nearly bad enough that they make a move that friggin drastic and bold. They can just let Brian Anderson catch the ball and hit 9th for them.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 07:54 PM) It is in this type of scenario that it is unfortunate that a team just can't cut a player loose and terminate his contract like teams can do in the NFL. But at the same time, it is a very good thing to have, because it doesn't allow teams like the Yankees, Rangers, and whoever else that sign players to huge contracts just because they can to just get out of it. If that happened, the Yankees would win the World Series like, every year. Or at the very least you'd be looking at Boston-New York ALCS year in, year out.

Indians acquire Jason Michaels for Arthur Rhodes
witesoxfan replied to SSH2005's topic in The Diamond Club
It's official, according to qwertyworld. But I'm a little irked... Um...since when? It's not like he goes biking and tries to kill himself every offseason. That was a friggin 1 time thing. -
If you happen to believe what MLB players say, Paul Konerko is not a member of the Chicago White Sox if Jim Thome isn't.

Bears To Target Randle El

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 05:14 PM) http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396159/gamelogs/2004 1 TD in 3 games v. the following opponents: Minnesota, Green Bay, Detroit. OK, now you can laugh... ...at the receivers he had to throw to. Bernard Berrian, David Terrell, Justin Gage, and Bobby Wade...Thomas Jones too, who led the team in receptions. Orton atleast had Mush all year, and Bradley as well for a couple of games. -

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) Oh and about Grossman, he f***in sucks.. thats UNDENIABLE. He's put up horrible statistics, and if 21 points is supposed to be impressive then we have a bigger problem. I too prefer 13 points against the same exact team with shorter scoring drives. I will say, there is something about Orton's 59.7 passer rating and 9/13 TD/INT ratio that really would make me happy as a Bears fan. (yes, I realize Grossman's passer rating in the 2 games he played was also 59.7, and his TD/INT ratio was technically worse - but atleast he's shown some sign of potential, a little bit of leadership on the field, and somewhat dangerous arm in the past...not being able to perform at 100% after friggin 3 months on the shelf is not something I expect out of a veteran QB, let alone one as young and undeveloped as Grossman) -
QUOTE(MarkBuehrle_TheAce @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) i meant that guillen is better than manuel, wich is obviously true, considering guillen has a ring, and manuel doesnt Bob Brenly has a ring too, but it's hard as hell to suggest he's better than even Manuel. And green is sarcasm.

Frank Thomas signs with Oakland Athletics

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) I'm not Judging Frank by any of this right now. I'm going to wait and see how he reacts to the gigantic, 39,000 person, 5 minute standing O he's going to get the first time he steps up to the plate in the Cell. As I recall, in general, Sox fans have pretty good memories. Do they let bygones be bygones and go about applauding him...or are there some boos mixed in with the standing O simply because of these comments he made? -
Frank Thomas signs with Oakland Athletics
witesoxfan replied to OfficerKarkovice's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is Frank just being his b****y, normal self? Or is he trying to forget about the White Sox, forget about his past, and move on? Obviously, I'm going to try and back up Frank, no matter what he says, because I'm a Thomas homer...but from what I have seen in his comments, I see anger and jealousy, and if I had to guess, I would say it has a little something to do with a bit of a sad time in his life...probably one of the worst...leaving the Chicago White Sox, the only team he's ever played for in his entire career. He's trying to talk himself up, asking himself why they didn't want him back, because, truth be told, he is a better hitter than Thome(and all the stats prove Thomas and me right). I honestly think he's just in a bargaining stage right now, trying to figure out why the Sox didn't want him back after so many years with the organization and so many great memories capped off by a World Series championship. I think as the season goes on, and he winds up on the DL...he'll find out why very quickly why the Sox gave up on him. If you and your girlfriend/boyfriend break up after 5 years of a very close but at times volatile relationship...you are going to try and do your best to forget about him/her, no matter what it takes...and you'll try and figure out in the end why exactly it happened, as the reason may not be clear to you at the time. I think that's all Frank's doing right now. -
QUOTE(toasty @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) i think his comments on frank being cancer, etc stem from when skippy was in chicago... so he's just not paying attention anymore Which wouldn't surprise me at all. Neither he nor Paige are very fond of USCF...in fact, I believe Paige called it a "dump." Of course, the last time he was there was undoubtedly last century, so who the f*** cares? I like these shows...1&10, ATH, PTI...because it lets you in on some other sports opinions, but some of it I just hate due to bias, thus being unprofessional, thus not doing their job very well at all. I just wish when someone were uninformed on something in one of these shows, they would say "I have no clue what your talking about on this topic so I'm not even going to answer" instead of making an ass out of themselves like they sometimes do.
