QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) We don't know how Iguchi looks when swinging the bat freely. He's basically an uncertainty if you put him in the 3 hole. You can't risk experimenting with such an important spot in the lineup. And I'd say Thome is a nice true #3 hitter. Dye is too with the proper protection. The entire 2005 White Sox was an experiment gone wonderfully right. You will never know an answer to anything unless you try. Iguchi could be a good #3 hitter in the right circumstances. Those circumstances are not being met with the 2006 White Sox.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) According to their MLB site, SD is looking for bullpen help and a catcher at the winter meetings. Seeing how that is an organizational strength..... Bullpen help? Perhaps you could have an argument. Catcher? Not unless you want to trade AJP. San Diego offered Loretta for Wells and Mirabelli...so I am not even sure of an offer the Sox could make to make that even manageable without one side getting completely hosed. I like Loretta...not as much as I did about a year or two ago, but age and injuries have that effect...but I don't think the Padres and Sox matchup real well for a trade.

FWIW, from everything I've read, Arizona likes Paul Lo Duca. New York likes Javier Vazquez. I also continually see Rowand mention how Lo Duca is a good catcher, OPS be damned, that he is a good guy in the clubhouse and well liked by fans and players alike, and that he handles a pitching staff magnificently. I am almost tempted to say that if a Sox fan talks s*** about Lo Duca, they have to talk the same exact s*** about Pierzynski.

Timo is just flatout gone...or should be anyways. Non-tendered. Of those on the list...I see Marte as the most likely, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see Willie go. That is nothing against Willie, I just am not sure how much KW and Ozzie like him. Then again, I have been expecting Willie to be moved for about 5 years now though, so maybe he'll just be a Sox lifer. And yes, I know the Sox acquired Willie going into the 2002 season, thus they've only had him 4 years.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) not sure where to put this...but i didnt think it needed its own thread...so ill just put it in FA resource, even tho it was a trade rumor....was being the key word per gammons.... The White Sox said they were interested in Vazquez, but the Diamondbacks wanted to tie Glaus to him. KW likes Vazquez a lot, but I can't imagine why he'd be after Vazquez. Something about having 6 starting pitchers should kill that thought instantly.

I would consider the Sox as a huge non-player in the Loretta market. San Diego is looking for starting pitching for Loretta, and unless they'd take Duque over Wells - which won't happen - there is no chance of it working. Loretta's a Padres or SAWWWWWWWWWK next year, if I must stick my neck out as far as I want to.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 02:33 AM) sorry but I am not sure what I have done wrong here. It pissed me off and I shared my point of view. If you don't agree with me fine. Good for you. But post your thoughts on the article. I am not sure why I keep on getting attacked for everything I do. But whatever. So you can't be attacked for something you said in reply to an article, yet Morrissey can? I personally find it a little ironic that you can rip the hell out of a Morrissey article that was published and allowed for the public to see, but that you cannot be ripped the hell into because you wrote something that is essentially published, though not through a newspapaer, and is allowed for the public to see.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) The Mets have got that new TV deal starting, so they won't care how much they spend really, even though it ain't really right. On another topic, I wonder how Steve Phillips is feeling right now. He doesn't care, he was the GM of the Yankees and Red Sox and Cubs and whoever the hell else ESPN did that little shindig on.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) I wasn't even there to hear that part. I think it'd be a good game but I'd have to go with the Chiefs. The Bills woeful defense manhandled the Chiefs(except LJ of course). How would KC fair against the best defense in the league?

Ozzie guarantees we will have new #2 hitter.

QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) Nope, but he should be given a shot at the job if Owens is getting one. Nothing like setting the arbitration clock ASAP. :rolly -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:05 PM) Young/Owens/Sweeney/Anderson will all get there shot, in time. Are we really that in need that Owens needs to be up, skiping AAA? I dont think so, but I guess im worng..... Of course you're not wrong. Owens should be starting for Charlotte next year. If the Sox get lucky, he's ready to be an everyday player in 2007, perhaps replacing Podsednik. BTW Tony...I think that is the grossest sig on Soxtalk. YUCK :puke

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) you could do a lot worse. Sure...Timo Perez starting in RF would be a whole lot worse. A .757 OPS is mediocre as hell. Get that out of an offensive position, unless you can get on at a .350-.380 clip for me and steal around 50 bases.

Almost anything you could ever imagine I'd probably eat. Spam(fake meat, not SS2k's post count ) fried in oil, and then made into a sandwich with lettuce, cheese, and mayo is pretty awesome. And then I like to eat just regular green olives too.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) Who Bourn or Golson? Not sure how much they plan on counting on those guys at this point. I thought Hunter is a FA after next year but what the F do I know? Hunter makes $10.75 mill in '06, and has a $2 mill buyout or $12 mill option for '07. So you are pretty much right on the money.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) i dont think playing in a dome would help castillo, if he layed down a bunt the ball would roll faster and farther, i really dont see how hed help, he would give better fielding but they already have good fielding and speed, i dont get the move As a LH hitter, if he were to drag bunt, the ball is more likely to get past the pitcher on turf than it is on grass Personally...I think Castillo would rake in the Metrodome. You saw how much Cristian Guzman's stats were affected by going from Minnesota to Washington...I think you will see the same type of pattern with Castillo, due to the two of them being very similar hitters.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) Ok, let's be fair. 1st off, Rowand wasn't exactly an accurate cannon in CF either BUT he is far greater defensively than Pierre ever will be. 2nd of all, Rowand is not a top-tier guy. Nor is Rowand, so you have no point. But basically, there is no point in comparing because there is no direct connection between the 2. Right now, I'd rather have Pierre than Anderson for 2006 but I hope Ando changes my opinion. That's nice and all. What about Juan Pierre?

QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) Timo Viscaino Marte for Manny, do it KW! Please god, tell me he is not cereal.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) I still say the Yanks are going to set their sites on AROW... By the end of the off season he will be in pinstripes... And who's going to be in CF for the Phillies then? Bubba f***in' Crosby? Rowand will be a Phillie next year, period. No way Philadelphia moves a player they traded Jim Thome and a ton of cash for. I say to look out for Torii Hunter. Dunno why.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Who did Kenny try to trade Frank for? Just curious, because I never heard those rumors. I recall his name coming up in trade talks to Boston in 2002. And Frank said he would have accepted any trade to anywhere, because if he wasn't wanted on the team, he'd go somewhere that he was wanted...or something to that extent. I don't believe a trade was ever worked out, or I don't believe JR ever let KW work out a trade.

How f***ed up is the market for relievers? Holy s***. Thank god the Sox have a farm system and good evaluation people upstairs. Jenks(near $300k), Cotts(probably near $500-750K), Politte($1.2 mill), Vizcaino(probably near $1.5 mill), (should they happen to keep him) Marte($2.25 mill), and Hermanson($3 mill). So basically, I'm figuring our entire bullpen will cost slightly more than the Cubs 2 setup men and closer, and I'm also figuring our setup men and closer will be much more effective then the Cubs will at a fraction of the cost. I'll take that.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) I f***ing hate Bobby Howry. Worry about your own damn team and talk about trying to help them get to the World Series. Not Sox Fans. He did this crap last year to. It is still a Cubs town...but the margin of Cubs to Sox fans is narrowing quickly. I also figure Chicago is the Cubs' to lose...if they continue to be a mediocre/disappointing team, continue to finish behind St. Louis, Houston, and an up and coming Milwaukee team, while the Sox continue to win and make playoff appearances and be in the thick of things year in and year out along with USCF continuing to look better year after year, you will see the tide shift. Perhaps more quickly than some think...and perhaps not nearly as quickly as some think. BTW...I personally don't consider Howry a "chump." Not only has the guy come back from arm surgery and become a very good reliever again, but I also remember him as a guy that's not afraid to ever throw inside. In 2002, his last year with the Sox, he hit Torii Hunter in the chest when Hunter appeared to be leaning in, and while I'm not necessarily for hitting players all the time(though I do feel some times call for it), that was a time where Howry thought Hunter was leaning out over the plate, and he made him pay.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Seeing how the new mgnt just signed Baldelli, he's not going anywhere. Crawford was signed by the old mgmt earlier this yr. Seeing how the D-Rays have big glut of OFer's, they could trade Crawford for a bunch of talent I could very easily see this, but I'm not sure I see it this year. They will need a leadoff hitter this year, and I'm not sure exactly who they'd have leadoff if they were to trade Crawford. I will say that they do have a good young corps of hitters...hell of a scouting department they have. Crawford, Baldelli, Gomes, Young, and Garthright in the OF alone, to go along with Cantu, Upton, Huff, and probably others I'm not considering right now because I just don't know enough about the Devil Rays. If they were in any other division, they'd probably be 1-2 years away from being a hella crazy force.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) And what I am telling you... is that where Frank is concerned Kenny has nothing to do with it. Frank deals with Jerry. IIRC, when Frank signed his one year deal prior to 2003 with 3 mutual options attached, KW was in the Dominican Republic at the time, and that it was a Reinsdorf-Tellum-Thomas negotiation.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) Who the f*** is that?
-
The hitter, the player, the man, the reason that I am a White Sox fan. Hard as hell to see him go...but it had to happen sooner or later. Let's all hope, for Frank, that he either retires, having played his entire career with the White Sox, or that if he were to sign elsewhere, that he would be healthy enough to put up 30 homers. And then in 2007, 20 homers. And then in 2008, 2 homers for the White Sox...and then an end to a wonderful career.
