  1. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) I don't want Manny on the team. I think he's a clubhouse cancer and we don't need another former Indian on our team. Clubhouse cancer? The guy has won everywhere he's been! He's a great guy in the clubhouse if anything, always having fun, always keeping it loose, and always producing. You can't ask for much more. He appears to me to be lazy, and a bit shy. He wants to get out of the public eye, which is basically Boston or New York, so he can be a bit more comfortable.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 08:35 AM) From "The Daily Herald's Scott Gregor": So is this like how the Sox weren't interested in AJP when he was non-tendered by San Fran, or is this like how the Sox simply aren't interested in him? I tend to think it's the former. Let upper management look into Pierre a little bit, his value, how much Florida is actually asking, how he plays all-around, how he'll be in the clubhouse, his contract status, along with multiple other things. After you've done that, you go from there. At the very least, I have to figure Pierre will be in Chicago.
  3. QUOTE(Wanne @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) True...obviously the only teams which have already been stated are: 1) Angels. They have alot of decisions to make...plus I'd imagine the want Kotchman to get alot more ABs this year. Are they waiting for the Red Sox to get their s*** together in terms of a GM to work out the Manny deal (which seems to me is what's happening)? Plus...I can't see them shelling out 5 years at $12M+ for Paulie. 2) The Red Sox. Again...waiting on the GM deal and Manny. But I can't see PK evening thinking about it. 3) Dodgers. I REALLY can't see PK heading back there...but stranger things have happened. Is there a sleeper team in the mix? Oakland? San Diego? Texas? (Remember that Teixeira was originally a 3B...so it's not out of the question to sign PK and move Teix back over to 3rd and move Blalock). I think everybody's just waiting to see what deals are made before committing anything. btw...can you believe the Jays shelled out that kind of jack for Ryan?!? I would have to think Anaheim is probably the main team pursuing Konerko right now, aside from the Sox, and they are probably the front runner for Manny too, and while they have a lot of money to spend, no way can they afford to spend rougly $35 million on 2 players in one offseason. No way the Red Sox are interested in him, no matter what they say. They still have to upgrade their bullpen even with the addition of Mota, they have a hole in CF to address as well, along with less money to make such moves, adding Lowell(9 mill) and Mota(approximately 3 mill) to the mix. I have to figure if Manny goes to Anaheim...which I figure he will...Konerko is almost a lock to return to Chicago.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=cita...adel&type=story This part of the article makes it sound like bulls***: Furcal for $100 million? Yeah right. Good call ITI. :rolly
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) Delgado available? I think not If they are willing to deal Josh Beckett, who turns 26 next year, and Lowell while his value is at its lowest, for Blalock, who is solid but not spectacular, and a stud pitching prospect, then I think it shows they are clearly building around Cabrera and Delgado. pIZZwn3d
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Would that actually be scarier than Ramirez and Ortiz back to back? I dunno. Is Ortiz half the hitter Vlad is without Manny? Ortiz always looked like an inconsistent but monstrous hitter in Minnesota...I recall very well him hitting a homer with a broken hand back in 01 or 02. He loses the protection, and how is he going to fair? Right now, with the Red Sox likely losing Manny, I either see them exploding ala 2001 Mariners, 01 Indians, 2005 White Sox, or suffering the fate of many a team before them of losing such a valuable bat in the middle of the lineup. Doesn't mean they can't get a valuable package for him though - you could see them reaping rewards not only from the trade itself, but with the money it will undoubtedly free up(ala the Caballo trade last year)
  7. I think I feel especially bad for the owner - WHAT IS SHE GOING TO WHORE OUT NOW TO CASH IN AND GAIN 15 MORE MINUTES?
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) Duncan ain't going anywhere. I'm not much of an NBA fan...but I take Garnett before I take Duncan.
  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) Pretty annoying that people think boras will ever rape us with crede unless he goes adrian beltre on us anytime soon. People here would think he can get pablo ozuna 3 years six million per year else where... If he got Ozuna 3 years, 6 mill per, I would probably kiss Boras on the lips. But he could easily get Crede 4-5 years, $6-7 mill per. I don't know how...because if I did, I would tell the world. But I'm sure he could.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) 2 months. He hit a whopping .108, with a .320 OPS (You read that right) during his injury-shortened August. If you remove those 2 months using your magical calculating powers, Crede would have been a .310 hitter last year, and I'm too lazy to figure out the OPS, but it would have been good. Out of anyone in the AL with more than 50 at bats in September, Crede had the highest OPS. The kid can be really good. He just needs to stop those damn month long slumps. Somehow. I am figuring his injuries in August really messed with his swing, and had he remained healthy, I'm figuring atleast .250 for him. I really do think he is starting to figure it out, and could become a very good player in the very near future. Best case scenario is that he puts up a big season next year, dumps Boras, and resigns with the Sox...but I'm not sure I see that happening.
  11. Crede struggled with the bat for 1 month of the season - May, where he was just godawful, putting up like a .520 OPS for the month, or something horrible like that - and then he was hurt in early August to the point where he couldn't play and his back was effecting his swing. Call me overly optimistic, call it the Boras effect, call it still being caught up in the playoffs - I see Crede as a .275 30 80 .800 player next year with excellent defense.
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) If the Sox do sign Mueller it's cause of Joe's back. There have been talks that upper management was worried about his back and that's why Mueller has come up. So sign someone a little more cost effecient. Bring in Wes Helms, bring back Jose, hell, BRING BACK MILKMAN. At the price, I think I would probably prefer all of the above over Bill Mueller at 3-5 mill a year. The Sox payroll will increase next year, but it's not like it's gonna be to the point where they can just free-willingly bring and have 3 mill insurance policies and 4 mill relievers(oh wait)
  13. I love Mueller...but not as a backup, and I'd rather have Crede starting over Mueller. I also don't think you can trade the playoff hero unless there were to be some sort of problem elsewhere with him...like for instance, contractual negotiations...and even then, I'm not sure you can. I wouldn't be a huge fan of signing Mueller...I'll say that at the very least.
  14. Dealing Garnett would be the single dumbest thing any Minnesota team has ever done. You don't trade the best player in the NBA. As a franchise, you also have to take into consideration what other teams within your region are doing. The Vikings traded Moss - the superstar but controversial receiver. The Twins may end up trading Torii Hunter this year - the player loved by fans not only throughout Minnesota, but throughout the nation. Not sure about the NHL, but there hasn't been much activity at all in the past year so the Wild hasn't been able to do much to mess with their marketing. So why would you trade Garnett, who is one of the last remaining drawing points in Minnesota sports?
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 11:15 PM) First time ever that a Packers loss made me feel sick. How many damned luck games can the Vikings win? BRAD JOHNSON BABY - UNDEFEATED(as a starter)!!! Oh, and to anybody in this thread for this week - atleast you're not a Bills or Phins fan. Rowand and I were wondering which was worse, getting absolutely destroyed by a good but not great team in San Diego, or getting shutout and losing by 22 to a bad but talented Cleveland team.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) Wite -- I don't understand your comment about Milton Bradley. I've heard that he's one of the better outfielders (defensively) in baseball. His ZR is similar to Pierre's, and he rated well in Tango's Defensive Scouting Report. I was referring more or less to his ability to be burned from time to time. I recall very clearly him misjudging balls very badly and having the balls fly over his head atleast twice against the Sox when he was in Cleveland. He may be a solid defensive CFer in all, but he's relatively lazy at times.
  17. I've been really digging Temple of the Dog a lot over the past week or two, and especially "Say Hello 2 Heaven." It just feels like you can sense Cornell's grief toward the loss of his friend in the song, and it comes off as somewhat magical. Well, atleast to me anyways. Not sure it's one of the greatest songs ever...but I happen to like it a lot.
  18. If the Sox traded Rowand and a prospect for 2 of Florida's biggest offseason chips, and then traded Garland straight up for Thome, I would snap. I want Pierre, and while I like Beckett, the rotation is set into place right now. There is no need for Beckett. And there is no way in hell Florida does that to begin with either, knowing that they can get Blalock AND stud pitching prospect for atleast Beckett, and with Texas perhaps picking up Lowell for next year too. And Garland for Thome is straight up robbery by Philly. A 36 year old-to-be in August who has an ugly contract for a guy that just finally put it together? I would consider Garland for Teix, and even then I may not even consider that, knowing Teix's agent is Boras and that he's gone in a couple years anyways.
  19. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 06:28 AM) You guys are all basing your opinions on Gload being sure to be tendered a contract... But he obviously pissed some people off in this organizion... He's this off seasons Kelly Wunsch and I wouldn't be suprised at all to see him let go... The Sox have no real use for him... and it's hard to imagine Ozzie even wants him on the team considering how he was treated during the season... Pissed some people off, or is it that the organization sees no real use for him in the future?
  20. QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Your realize that speed means nothing if you can't get good jumps, right? You realize good jumps mean nothing if you got s*** for speed, right? There are always exceptions to the rule...like how Corey Patterson can make some disgusting plays in CF with his speed alone, and how Edmonds is constantly a gold glover. Speeds a hell of a good thing to have in CF...and Juan Pierre is one of the fastest players in the game period. Good jumps are too, which is something Rowand does do well. I haven't seen much of Pierre...but from what I remember, the guy doesn't flat out get burned like I have seen Milton Bradley do on many an occasion.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Cleveland doesn't need Thome, they need pitching and defense. Their offense is fine at 1b/DH. They need to really worry about bringing back Millwood/Howry/Wickman or replacing them without harming their core of young players. I'd agree with this very much. It wouldn't be too hard for them to just retain Broussard, bring in LeCroy to be the 1Bman against LHP, and then go from there without losing much production. In fact, that's almost exactly what I see happening. I don't think they bring back Millwood...he's probably looking for atleast 3-30, and perhaps more, winning the ERA title and all. Hell, Boras got the guy $7 mill after a s***ty season with Philadelphia...how much can he get Millwood after Millwood actually had a good year? I will say that I'm pretty sure they have a hell of a lot of good arms in the minors, so I could see them moving on with all 3 of those and just going with young guys.
  22. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 06:32 AM) Juan Peirre is a joke... We don't need a Pods clone... We sure as hell don't need his crappy defense in CF... Their are only two responsible options for next season... Rowand in CF... or Anderson in CF with Rowand traded for a big bat like Delgado (no other trade scenario is worth it) I just pray the Cubs get Juan Pierre to we can watch him lead them to another 4th place finish... I mean all those dropped balls and all... If we want a speedy CF with bad instincts and a noodle arm we might as well stick Willie Harris out there... Do you not recall how much pressue Podsednik puts on the pitcher with his prescence alone on 1B? Imagine that doubled with Pierre and Podsednik. I also don't know where everyone gets this crappy defense from...his speed alone gives him very good range in CF, and a strong arm is not a necessity in CF. Besides, the Sox really didn't have any good arms in the OF last year. Dye had a strong arm, but inaccuracy is a killer. Sammy Sosa has a strong arm in the OF too, but he could never use it effectively due to always missing the cutoff man. I also think it was pretty obvious to see that Pierre had a down year last year, and that it's also pretty obvious to see he's a guy that can bounce back from a down year. 2001 - .327 .378/.415/.793 2002 - .287 .332/.343/.675 2003 - .305 .361/.373/.734 2004 - .326 .374/.407/.781 2005 - .276 .326/.354/.680 Look at his 2001 and 2004 seasons, and than his 2002 and 2005 seasons. I notice a very easy to recognize trend. I think if you bring him in, you are almost guaranteed a .350-.360 OBP in the first year, and then a .370-.380 OBP the next year. No way do Florida's demands for Pierre remain as high as they are for a guy that they have basically come out and said they have to move. I also am praying that the Cubs get Pierre too, because it likely means they had to give up atleast Pie in the deal, and then perhaps more as well...who knows. KW is not dumb, and he will not give up any more than he feels he should. Hendry on the other hand seems to look a little more desperate at this point. He knows he has a pretty good thing in the OF right now, but if he can upgrade by acquiring Pierre, and than because of that ship Rowand off in a package for a big hitter, he will.
  23. We stayed at an Econolodge there in 2000. Rooms were like $40, but we saw a fight brewing outside our room when we got back from the game in September, and the place was just an overall s***hole. We stayed at a Radisson I believe it was in 04...pretty nice place, and my dad got the rooms pretty cheap off of Priceline or some such place. I don't recall how close it is to the stadium, but it was like a 5-10 minute drive on the interstate IIRC. Also, I seem to recall seeing a Days Inn around that Econolodge I stayed at, and it looked a hell of a lot nicer than the dump that is/was the Econolodge.
  24. IT'S A GOOD THING I PREDICTED THE BILLS WOULD GET DESTROYED IN THIS GAME.
  25. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) This isn't what we should be arguing over. It should be whether the Sox will score more runs by upgrading their #2 position, where they posted a .276/.335/.422 line, or the #3 spot, where they managed just a .234/.296/.419. Only the Bay Area teams had less production from the #3 spot. There are much more pressing needs than "who should bat 2nd?" Kenny knows this. He ain't wasting his time appeasing Ozzie behind the scenes. He's going to do what's best for the club, and that's finding a LHed bat that can get on base and put the ball out of the yard. Is it not possible to upgrade the #3 spot in the lineup by acquring a #2 hitter, moving the #2 hitter from last year either into the #3 hole, or moving him further down into the lineup, perhaps say 5-6-7 or somewhere in that whereabouts in the order, and moving someone up in the lineup? Jermaine Dye played in 6 times as many games in the playoffs hitting in the #3 slot than he did the entire regular season, and while it was a very small timeframe to make judgements, he did hit .311 1 6 .415/.444/.860 during that time frame. I'd assume KW's first priority(perhaps other than Konerko, and perhaps not) would be a LH bat - either Delgado or Thome - and than it would shift to Pierre. However, depending upon his certainty of being able to acquire Thome or Delgado, I could easily see him trading for Pierre first, or not trading for Pierre at all.
