Kevin Brown was one of the best pitchers in the league when Clement was traded to Florida for him. That argument holds no ground. Basically, if Clement is not good because he was traded as part of a package for a better pitcher, Freddy Garcia is not good. Afterall, Freddy was traded from Houston to Seattle as part of a package for RJ. And your throw-in argument along with Alfonseca holds no ground either, considering Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek were traded from Seattle as part of a package in which Heathcliff Slocumb ended up in Seattle. That was probably one of the most one-sided trades of the late 90s. Basically, Lowe was a throw-in in that deal, so if you don't want Clement because he was a throw-in, you shouldn't want Lowe because he was a throw-in.

Who would you rather have, knowing all things - a gold-glove winning SS who hits about .310 50 140 1.000 a year, or an erratic fielding SS who hits .310 25 80 .850 a year?

I do not see why people are making the sticking points of this trade out to be Konerko and Garland, because they are not sticking points at all. Konerko is not nearly as important to the club as so many people here make him out to be, and Garland is very easily replaced(hell, we can sign Wilson Alvarez to a 1-year deal, and let him be a Sox oldy-timer pitching every 5th day for us...he'd probably be better then Garland, who knows...there are so many guys out there like that that it would be hard for KW and Ozzie not to replace Garland). You can also sign some low-risk, high-reward guys to try and help replace Konerko...someone like Randall Simon or David Segui...and that will help replace them too. A platoon of Gload-Simon would probably be able to get it done over a full year. The sticking point of the trade is Brian Anderson. Do you want to deal your #1 prospect AGAIN, even when you know you are very close to rebuilding? And I think getting RJ could very easily be a move that pushes us over the top, and I do believe that trading Anderson for RJ is justifiable. He is probably like the 1 player(that is available for trade, of course) who I would trade Anderson for.

There was some little blip somewhere(either at benmaller or in one of Rosenthal's inside dish's) that brought up how Pittsburgh would then look to trade Rhodes to LA for Bradley. That's all it said...not that that would be the exact trade, or that it would even go through. I'll see if I can find it. EDIT: First place I look has it, top of the page. Courtesy benmaller.com... Yeah I did think that right away when I saw it. I don't think it will happen this year, but I do think it very well could happen next year.

And I can guarantee you're wrong. I have no doubt the Sox are looking at Nomar. Take into account that they are also looking at Pavano and Renteria too, and were looking at Kendall. Looking does not even mean they are going to pursue the guy.

I see Cleveland in the playoffs. I mean, I'm not a big NBA guy...but I see like 10 teams that could/will be playoff teams in the East. And I do not see Cleveland as a bubble team...they are better then the bubble teams. Cleveland could be like a 5 or 6 in the East, maybe even better.

IIRC, they also came down from like a 25 point deficit against the Suns earlier this year too, and the Suns are the second best team in the league win-wise.

I think he ends up in Atlanta or he remains in NY. He has a blanket no-trade clause, and has said he wants to pitch closer to his family if he is traded.

You give him the same rap most people give Jose Guillen Both were on playoff teams last year and both were a big reason why they were on their playoff team. He's not a cancer, and he's not a piece of s***. He's a damn fine ballplayer, and I'd take him on my team any day of the week Also...the Pirates need a 1Bman...and I'm pretty sure that both Mackowiak and Wilson can play 1B pretty well.

He had a QB rating of like less then 20 last week or something, he has 13 turnovers, and the Bears offense is the worst in the league. Please tell me no one thought I was serious. Please.

His CERA with the Sox was 5.15, actually better then the team's ERA in the second half. Catching Freddy a lot will do that though.

The White Sox team ERA in the first half of the year, without Garcia and Contreras, was 4.59. In the second half, with those two, the team ERA was 5.26. I think that helps disprove the Ben Davis calling a good game theory. He's a decent catcher...but there are better options out there.

He'd probably choose Oakland over Chicago though.

It has not been a reoccurring injury. If I remember it right, it was a freak injury type of thing...he didn't even know how he messed up his wrist in the first place, but he messed them up pretty badly. He had surgery to fix them, and he was back in 2002, not quite at the same as he was prior to that, but he was back none the less. And as I have said, he almost never hits below .300 too. He'd be a damn good #3 hitter for us with Caballo hitting 5th, Frank hitting 4th, and Rowand in the #2 hole. The only thing I'd be worried about is a leadoff hitter at that point in time.

I assume that KW can top it and would top it, but is not doing so because by trading for Kendall he would take away any chance he has at getting Unit. I'd rather have Unit over Kendall, personally.
