  1. It was honestly just a suggestion. He has pretty good stuff and has some very solid numbers this year, and what I didn't look at before that I did look at after I made my post is that he's 32...so he's not like some top prospect. And I think we all still owe him for hitting Sosa. That was beautiful.
  2. BTW...I think the idea would be really cool. Problem is we usually will only ever take 1 trip to Minnesota a year(if that even, unless you count East Grand Forks), and the timing would have to be absolutely perfect for it to work out.
  3. Hey, Minny, just as a general rule... Never joke about suicide. One can never tell if the person is serious...if they don't believe they are being serious, but they are being serious, that person feels like s*** because they know they could have stopped it. But if they do think they're serious, but they are not...then it gets blown way the hell out of proportion. Don't joke about death at all, period.
  4. Anyone on here know how highly the Pirates regard Salomon Torres? He has been lights out this year, and I think he could be a kind of guy that could come somewhat cheaply and potentially even become a closer with us.
  5. He was suspended a little while ago for a comment he made to Critic, and has made numerous attempts to come back, and has been permanently banned. It hurts me to see that too, because I have always liked Brando and agreed with him on many topics. Unless, of course, you already knew that, and you were referring to something else. Other then what I said above, nothing new has happened since then.
  6. I know it was a joke...but please don't take a shot at someone who can't comment. That's like rabbit punching someone. Dropping all discussions about Brando would actually be the wise thing to do, IMO.
  7. If you expected playoffs from this team, you would be sorely mistaken...that's why many Bears fans were not. I do think this team needs to grow though. You basically have a rookie QB out there, you have a first year starter at HB, and there are not a lot of proven commodities in their receiving corps. One thing I loved that the Bears did during the offseason was improve their offensive line. Getting Tait and Brown was just huge, and that's what I based my thoughts on them potentially being a playoff team on. I do think they are better then a 4-win team, even now. Then again, 4 wins got the first choice in the draft last year...that's another thing to consider.
  8. Jose has always been one of my favorite players. He has had an awful year...but he always busts his ass, he rarely complains, he is a team leader, and he's a great person. I hope that once he retires, he is brought back as a coach. I honestly feel he would be a very gifted coach.
  9. Here's one of my cats, since we have decided that we are just going to post all kinds of pictures of our animals on here. BTW...I don't think my cat likes yours.
  10. I know. That's why I said joke's on you. OK, now I'm just backtracking...lol
  11. A few interesting things to point out. The Sox, as has been pointed out, have had only 3 40 homer guys in the history of the team(Frank multiple times, Belle only once if I remember right, and now Paulie). Both the 1996 and 1997 Rockies had 3 guys each that hit 40 homers(Galarraga, Castilla, Burks in 96, Galarraga, Castilla, Walker in 97).
  12. Is it just me, or is Yas showing his age here? Just messin around Yas...you da man!
  13. Joke's on you, because I'd still take him over Freddy. As I said before...this is the first time since 2000 that Mulder's ERA over the course of a season has been above 4.00...and the first time Freddy Garcia's ERA over the course of a season has been below 4.00 since 2002. Also...FWIW...Mulder is 27, while Garcia is 29. Not that 2 years is a huge difference, but there is a difference in age.
  14. If KW really wants to impress...we'll be watching Pedro or Beltran in silver and black next year. Those moves are attitude moves...they give the team the idea that we want to compete, and that you should play your ass off and try to win every game.
  15. The team was practically dead without Maggs and Frank...but you saw in September that this team can play without Frank and Maggs...not a 1st place team, in all likelyhood, but they can hang. I would say though that in technicality, you are correct..the Burke-Hunter incident did not kill the Sox. What killed them was not retaliating.
  16. There's Urbina too AND KOCH!!!!
  17. I still find it hard to agree with Garcia being better then Mulder. Mulder hasn't won fewer then 15 games since 2000(when he went 9-10 in his rookie campaign). Garcia hasn't won 15 games since 2002, and even then, he was on a team that won 90+ games. His ERA has not been below 4.00 since 2001(when he had the best ERA in the AL)...meanwhile, this is the first time Mulder's ERA has been above 4.00 since 2000(his rookie season). At the very most...I say it is a draw, and I still think I'd take Mulder over Garcia, if given the chance. Again, my same argument applies This is Pavano's first full year of good starting, and Hudson has been doing this for a few years now. Not only do you have to add .3 points or so to Pavano's ERA to make it equal, you probably have to add .4 or .5 more for him considering he is coming from a pitcher's park and going to Coors Field East. Tim Hudson is a stud, plain and simple...I think I'd rather have him on my staff then Pavano, but either are good. The fact tha tyou have brought up the stats made me reconsider on this one. Hudson is much better then Pavano. Zito has won a Cy Young before. He can be a great pitcher, but has been hit harder in the past 2 years. Same can be said with Buehrle. That's why I said equal...because they are. Agreed. You also have to realize that Contreras is 32(and he really could be older...we don't exactly know)...he will not get much better...people treat this guy like he is some young guy who can still improve and turn the corner, but he is really to the point where he is not going to change his gameplan all that much from game to game. Meanwhile, Harden is 10 years younger then Contreras, meaning that he could become a very, very good pitcher in the near future. And I'm going to say equal because they are equal pitchers. The only real advantage Garland has is that he's only 24...but even at 24, he's pretty much a veteran, and he knows what's going on. He should be better then an ERA of 5, especially with 3 years of experience under his belt. So...revised starters Garcia = Mulder Pavano Buehrle = Zito Contreras Garland = Redman
  18. Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown have to be good CBs, even if they are in their first year of starting...if Jim Johnson and Andy Reid had enough confidence in them to have them start without bring in a vet to replace Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor, they have to be good. The Eagles secondary is, as of right now, lightyears ahead of Chicago's. Chicago does have a good 1st string secondary...I love Azumah, Tillman, and Brown...but they are no longer playing with those 3, and that will hurt them immensely. When you put McQuarters(or any nickel or dime back) on Moss, you will lose. It could get real ugly, real fast for Chicago. They got off to a nice start, and I thought looked a hell of a lot better then 5-11(with what they did last year, and now having a better coach in there, I thought they had a chance to be an above .500 team if everything went right, and at the very least, probably a 7-9 or 8-8 team). With that secondary as banged up as it is, and with the Lions actually showing signs of life...they could end up in last place.
  19. I want to say the Red Sox...but I don't know if that would solve the problem of the b****y Sawks fan, or if it would intensify it. So, therefore...I say St. Louis. BTW...FWIW, I do not think St. Louis will win it all. What I do think, however, is that the winner of the linekly matchup between Minnesota and Boston will win it all.
  20. I've played on that I really love...I talked about it on the old poker thread, before Jas messed up the board( ). We call it 3-2 lowball. You throw in an ante, everyone is dealt 3 cards, and the idea is to make a wheel(3-2-A). Straights and flushes do not count...you determine the winner by who has the lowest high card(so obviously, 7-6-5 beats 8-2-A). You get 2 draws, so you can start out with rags and end with a monster. I personally absolutely love it, and the pots can get pretty big at times, especially if you play with no limit.
  21. If you have the right personnel, you may do so. And included in the right personnel is good DBs to cover Moss, Burleson, and Robinson. Something the Bears no longer have. Culpepper to Moss could be heard quite a times come Sunday.
  22. Disagree very much Garcia Pavano = Hudson Buehrle = Zito Contreras Garland = Redman(and that's being nice) The A's staff is the best in the majors...no one can touch them.
  23. Hope is all you have. The Twins minor league system is stacked, and it just keeps on improving.
  24. His style is unique to him, and he couldn't teach these guys a lick. Thomas would not be a good coach. He will probably be the kind of guy that retires, disappears for a few years, is elected into the hall of fame, gives his speech, and then disappears again.
