  1. Just to point it out... He went from Cincinatti to Oakland to help bolster the A's lineup. And he wasn't resigned by Oakland due to the fact that he would want money in FA, and the A's couldn't afford him...so the Angels took a risk on him. He bounced around before because he had talent, but never put it all together. He may be an asshole...but he is a hell of a player, and he busts ass all the time, is clutch as hell, and is a decent defensive OFer with a cannon for an arm. Put it this way...I'd rather see Guillen out in RF next year over Carl Everett. Winning is pretty much a cure-all, and when you are winning, there are few problems within the clubhouse. When you don't win is usually when you have problems.
  2. Sounds like some Drew guy up in Buffalo.
  3. Statistically, that is not a quality start. But let's count it as one anyways. Good outing from Grilli...too bad we lost. Time to update the sig....
  4. BTW...FWIW...I do think the Bears will be a decent team next year. This year was just not meant to be, apparently, losing Brown and Grossman for the year, losing Tillman and Azumah for a considerable amount of time, and losing Urlacher for a game(which says something in its own right). You guys have to look at the bright side of things...the coaches are doing something right and the players are responding. Both starting CB's and a starting safety were out for yesterday's game against Minnesota, and Moss only caught 7 balls for 120 yards or so...I know that is still a lot, but you consider that it very easily could have been and probably should have been about 12 for 250 with 3 TD's, and you gotta feel lucky. The Bears almost beat a Minnesota team, who is probably a top 3 team in the NFC, with 4 of their best defensive players out. You also have to realize that Thomas Jones is getting his s*** together and is playing his ass off too...he looks like he could be the steal of the year, almost like a potential 1200-1500 yard rusher. When Grossman comes back next year, and the receiving corps has matured another year, I think you could see some very big things out of this Bears team.
  5. Whoa, pull back the guns guys. No need for any violence or personal insults. Have fun with it. It's a message board.
  6. The Sox have rarely had a good team around Thomas...when James Baldwin and Mike Sirotka lead your team in ERA, you know you have a problem...and when they have had good players around Thomas, they've had good teams. 94, 94, 00, hell, even 03 too. He is a very good hitter, but he can't do everything himself...he does need support. He is not Barry Bonds. All I'm saying is that if you do not get a player because he has some type of problem but still produces on the field and still helps your team win games, and instead settle for someone who does not put up the same numbers but may cost more and will not help you win as many games, you lose. If you get him, and you have problems, things will be figured out after that...a deal will probably be made at some point in time. Gary Sheffield has always been a prick, and probably always be a prick, but he helps his team win games.
  7. Why? Because he's hit .294 27 104 this year. Because his average with runners on base is .344. Because his average with RISP is .327. Because his average with the bases loaded is .455(5-for-11). Because his average with men on with 2 outs is .312. Because his average with a man on 3rd and less then 2 outs is .414. I want to get him because he's a damn good ball player and because he helps you win games. If having a good, team-first, non-selfish attitude was everything when it came to baseball, what would be the point in the White Sox having Frank Thomas? Dan, just to note...I honestly was not sure what the Angels situation was at 1B next year...I kind of figured they had Kotchman to play there, but wasn't real sure if they were going to keep him there or not. I was basically throwing an idea against the wall and seeing what else could come of it.
  8. Jose has been my favorite player on the Sox for a few years now, and for good reason. He busts his ass all the time, he does anything the team needs, he can runs the bases well, he is clutch...plain and simply, he is a very good baseball player. He is done being a starter for a playoff team...those days are past him. He can, however, play a vital role off of a playoff team's bench...there are not many guys who hit RHP better that also play some pretty solid defense at SS(along with 3B and 2B too, if necessary). I wouldn't mind bringing him back for dirt cheap, assuming he does not start.
  9. Damn forgot about Everett...this is true. So maybe the bench is around $7 mill...or maybe Everett's ass is dumped elsewhere. One or the other will happen.
  10. WHAT?! That dumb b**** told me she was on birth control! What am I gonna do now?
  11. That's awful. I do not understand what would drive someone to watch one of those videos more then once. I saw the beheading of Nick Berg, and it was burned into my retinas. I don't need to see anyone else beheaded like that.
  12. $15 mill a year, per. We could also sign him to a backloaded contract and have it average out to $18 mill per too.
  13. The team I have down will make around $75 mill. So to answer your question, yes.
  14. I dunno. I thought they were different enough that they deserved two different threads. Maybe I can be the first person on Soxtalk to have two of the threads he started combined. That would be such an honor!
  15. Very easy to tell them apart. ACL is in the front, PCL is in the back. MCL is in the middle, fwiw.
  16. No. Jose is from the Dominican Republic, Ozzie is Venezuelan
  17. I just posted in the Sports Bar about Jose Guillen being suspended the rest of the year for his actions last night in the Oakland game. I also mentioned that we should look into the situation and see if Anaheim wouldn't be willing to deal him. What I thought about was the possibility of us acquring him for our OF. Hear me out... I figure that Anaheim may be looking for a 1B in the offseason...I am not sure if they plan on putting Kotchman there, or what they plan on doing. I think maybe they'd look at Konerko's power numbers and they'd be in love with what he could do for them, giving them a stud power threat to replace their stud power threat Troy Glaus who will almost undoubtedly sign elsewhere in the offseason(I think possibly Seattle). All we do is ask for Jose Guillen...and they accept, giving us an OF of Lee-Rowand-Guillen from left to right, and in the process, save $4-5 mill. After doing that, we then look to trade Lee...and what we'd do in trading Lee is try to get a similar package to the one Milwaukee got for Richie Sexson...it wouldn't be nearly as large, and wouldn't be near the highway robbery Milwaukee got...but we'd just basically get a good package of players for Lee. For s***s and giggles, we'll say we trade Lee to Baltimore for Julio, Hairston, and a prospect. Julio then slips into the back end of our pen and Hairston becomes our everyday 2Bman. In making those deals, we have opened up roughly $12 mill extra for us to go out and get FA's. With that money, the Sox could either look to sign Pedro(which I would not want unless they want to make other moves as well), or they look to sign Beltran to a big-time deal, and then get a decent starter too...we'll say for the hell of it Radke for $7 mill per over 3 with an option for the 4th year. At that point, upgrading at 3B becomes totally debateable...we can look to trade Crede in and try to get some extra money to help pay for a FA to replace him, or we can keep him and hope he gets hot. For the hell of it, I'll say we keep him. Hairston - 2B Rowand - LF Beltran - CF Thomas - DH Guillen - RF Gload - 1B Uribe - SS Davis - C Crede - 3B Garcia Radke Buehrle Contreras Garland Cotts Adkins Politte Marte Julio Shingo What I have mentioned above will make around $70 mill next year, and the bench would be another $5 mill, so the payroll would be around $75 mill. Now, I'm not sure this is even possible...I quite honestly do not know if Anaheim is interested in trading Guillen or not, even after his tirade...but if it were, I do feel this would make the Sox better, and would be a hell of a cool move too. Also, I'm wondering if maybe we couldn't just make a thread for everybody to come up with some far fetched idea, like mine or like Jason's idea with the A's, and have it pinned, just so we can see what everyone's thinking about.
  18. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1889533 Pretty crazy turn of events...if Guillen becomes a problem for Anaheim, he is a guy the Sox should look at picking up to play RF for them. If they could get him(this is, of course, assuming Anaheim would want to deal him), there would be less of a need to try and get Beltran.
  19. I hope that if this is KW's last year as GM, that he does come back...he is a pretty good talent evaluator, and you like to have those kinds of guys in your front office in some type of scouting position.
  20. Can I be an odd person and include Frank Thomas in that list too? He only played half a year, and still had the 2nd most walks on the team. He damn near hit 20 homers, and he almost drove in 50 runs...in half a year. Had he played a full year, we would still be alive...we wouldn't win it, but we'd be alive.
  21. People that are saying things like that are dumb. There, I said it, they are dumb. However...the expectations for Grilli are for him to come in here, give us innings, and keep the team in the game...that IS his job. Jon Garland's job is to not only keep the team in the game, but to win more often then he loses, and in doing so, his ERA will be decent. 11-11 is not good enough for what many expected from Garland. BTW...Garland is supposed to be a ground-ball pitcher, due to the fact that he is a sinkerball pitcher. This makes complete sense, correct? Then, if so, someone can explain to me why his GO-AO ratio is 1.25, instead of around 2 or 3 like a sinkerballer's should be. There is a direct correlation of how well a sinkerballer pitches when you look at his GO-AO ratio. Kevin Brown, for example, is having a much worse year this year then he did last year. Anyone think the fact that his GO-AO ratio has dropped 2 full points(from 3.25 last year to 1.25 this year) has anything to do with it?
  22. There was an increase in ticket prices too. 1.93 mill this year compared to the 1.93 mill we had last year is a profit. I expect the Sox payroll to increase. JR knows the fans will come out now...all he has to do is bring in the players to help the Sox win. I expect KW to have a very busy offseason.
  23. People give Reinsdorf a bad rap because he doesn't dish out for a lot of high priced FA's. But you have to applaud him in that he has not let the Sox become a team like the Mets or Rangers who just spend money and go nowhere.
