  1. Yeah, let's get rid of Konerko who's second on the team in homers and is tied for 4th in OPS. Brilliant.
  2. Should be and will be are two totally different beasts. I have almost no doubt in my mind that if he keeps it up, he will be going to Houston, but not as a starter. Well, he should atleast.
  3. Willie's good. And I'm glad we have him. He needs more stolen bases though. With his speed, he should have 20 by now.
  4. For a guy who has had 2 good seasons within the past 4(counting 2004), $8 mill is too much. Konerko got $8 mill a year for having 4 straight good years(99-02). He's worth, at most, $6-7 mill, let alone the $10 he's apparently looking for.
  5. Gotta like what the Sox did in last year's draft. Took a safe pick with their first rounder, and then took a gamble with their second rounder. Well done.
  6. Now just imagine our rotation with Freddy Garcia or Tom Glavine or Jason Schmidt in it. We'd have 5 guys with an ERA under 4.00. You wanna talk about f***ing sick, holy s***
  7. Don't get me wrong, I don't think taking a shot on Kohlmeier was bad. To be a successful small-payroll team(though the Sox are middle of the pack or so), you have to get diamond in the rough type players like that. And I do believe he is still in the organization. If he can figure it out, it was a good pickup. The only moves I get pissed at are those where it is high-risk, high-reward, or high-risk, low-reward, and the risk becomes a problem(as in Paul Konerko of last year, and Billy Koch)
  8. Actually, the only year the Twins tried Hawkins as closer was 2001, and he was awful. Something like 5.97 ERA and a WHIP of around 1.96 as well as 7-10 blown saves. Kelly keeping Hawkins in the closer role as long as he did probably cost the Twins the division that year. However, he was s***ty before that too. Once he settled into the setup role, he just clicked, and he was fine. I'd have no problem putting Hawkins in the closer's role right now personally. He doesn't pitch for us, but no matter...I'd do it anyways.
  9. Thank you BTW, this is probably NOT a peek towards next year. I highly doubt we will have a platoon of Timo Perez and Aaron Rowand in RF all year long. We'll use Borchard/Reed/someone else before we use Perez-Rowand.
  10. That's exactly my thinking. Personally, I'm hoping deep down that Seattle will take Rauch and Rowand for Garcia, and that Arizona will take Diaz, Adkins, and Perez for Finley. Then we pick up another OFer who can play CF for us somewhere(or maybe just call up Mario Valenzuela...I think we still have him). I doubt they do, but you never know.
  11. Or they can give Hawk to us and they can then go to Koch. OK, I only wish that would happen.
  12. Just an FYI...I believe someone mentioned how he would rather have Foulke instead of Koch, Cotts, and Olivo...but we did not get Olivo for Foulke. Olivo was traded for after the 2000 or 2001 season (IIRC) for Chad Bradford. And, as has been pointed out, Koch is not good. Quite frankly, 7 for 9 in SVOPs is not that good...that translates to (very) roughly 35 for 45 in SVOPs or so. That's f***ing awful. But that's beyond the point. I don't mind if my closer is 7 of 9...for all I care, I don't mind if he is 6 for 9 at one point. If they are not hitting the s*** out of the ball against him, he is doing fine. The problem with this is that they ARE hitting the s*** out of the ball against Koch - almost every time out. Something has to be done about that. Use Shingo or go get someone else. I'm sick and tired of seeing Koch's stupidass goatee come into a game in the 9th and then f***ing blow it(or if he doesn't blow it, he loads the bases and then gets a break). If this guy were closing for New York or Boston, he would be getting castrated in the media. Then again, he wouldn't be closing for New York or Boston...he'd be a middle reliever at the very most.
  13. That was important enough that he had to say it twice!
  14. I don't know where you get this idea that 26 other teams are looking for closers. Francisco Cordero in Texas, Mariano Rivera in New York, Keith Foulke in Boston, Eddie Guardado in Seattle, Joe Nathan in Minnesota...there's 5 just in the AL, and I haven't even mentioned Gagne, Graves, Mesa, Wagner(though he's DL'ing right now), Benetiz, Looper, Smoltz, Hoffman, Rhodes, Kolb, Dotel, and Baez(though I have now). Here's the main question...of all the teams in contention or that believe they still can contend(meaning you take out the Detroits, KC's, Montreal's, Arizona's), how many have a solid closer? From what I can tell, off the top of my head, there are about two teams who believe they can contend and are in contention that still have two s***ty closers closing, and, coincidentally, both teams are in Chicago. Shingo should close for us, just like Hawkins should close for the Cubs.
  15. It's s*** that downloads itself onto your computer via you going to websites and then allows other people to track things you do...passwords, credit card numbers, ID's, things like that...they slow down your computer, and make popups come up(not like the popups you get when you go to certain sites...you can have no internet browser open and they will just open themselves). Not sure if that's exactly what spyware is, but it is pretty close. Spyware is nasty s***. I believe one program that gets rid of spyware is Lavasoft...my dad downloaded that for his computer, and it pretty much wiped out all the spyware he had. I've also used Spybot Search and Destroy, and that works OK too. BTW, here's a definition of spyware off of google....I was pretty close... "A general term for a program that surreptitiously monitors your actions. While they are sometimes sinister, like a remote control program used by a hacker, software companies have been known to use spyware to gather data about customers. The practice is generally frowned upon. "
  16. If the shoulder is done, he's done. Pitcher's can make it back after shoulder problems, but not those that heavily depend on a fastball. His future looked bright too.
  17. Paulie has no range. Maybe 2 or 3 steps either way. The only thing that even makes this a possibility is Jose's range both ways, and even that doesn't make up for it. The platoon sounds fine to me.
  18. Not much. He was either a FA signing or a waiver claim. Now that I think of it, another good low-risk, high-reward guy is Grilli. Rule V draft pick, and while I haven't seen him pitch, I've heard some good things about him. If he can come through for us, we are looking good. I don't even recall what he cost us though.
  19. 1. What if that shortened swing never comes around though? That's the thing I'm worried about with Crede. Of course, he could just figure it out Raul Ibanez-style. He's a pretty solid player now a days too. 2. The only other place you can put Lee is about in the #2 spot...he and Konerko cannot switch spots because Konerko is making more then Lee. Again, that lineup would not be a set thing. That lineup has a great amount of versatility, and a lot of people can be switched around, which would be one of the good things of that lineup. Ozzie could have a lot of fun with that lineup. 3. I like Guardado. But if someone else can be picked up, so be it. I just do not have much confidence in a few guys in the bullpen. The only one that I truely know will do his job day in and day out is Shingo...why can't we have 5 more Shingo's down there anyways? Anyways, Marte has been shaky(though he threw the ball very well his last outing, that is, until he hit Chavez), Koch has inconsistent, Politte has been downright scary(and that's bad-scary, not good-scary), Cotts has been a human-gas can as of late, and Adkins has not pitched well at all, save for the few times he's had a 6 run lead. I like Jackson though. He seems to be pretty solid as well. So long as KW gets one more good reliever, I will be happy.
  20. Does anyone know for sure if it was just his elbow, or did he f*** up his shoulder too? If it was just his elbow, I feel a little better.
  21. I think Steve says you're not cool.
  22. She's got a girlfriend? What's wrong with dating 2 women at once?
