That's probably the main reason something could be done. I could see us going over $70 mill, and if the players we bring in help us do some major damage come October, JR could be for bringing some of them back as well as doing some other signing on the FA market. If they flop and suck ass, we will be in the Cleveland Indians of 2002-03. However, if we could get Eddie Guardado(with maybe only having to give up say Joe Crede...don't know how that would work, but maybe it could), you can then have a Harris at 2B, Valentin at SS, and Uribe at 3B, which then opens up the opportunity to bring in Steve Finley. Give us Eddie Guardado, Freddy Garcia, and Steve Finley, and I like our chances a hell of a lot. Have a lineup of Harris - 2B Uribe - 3B Maggs - RF Thomas - DH Finley - CF Konerko - 1B Valentin - SS Lee - LF Olivo - C and you are set. Konerko, Lee, and Uribe can be switched around(however, Konerko should never bat 2nd), as well as Uribe and Harris, but otherwise, you are looking real nice. If Maggs is out for an extended period of time, use Gload, move everyone up a spot, and put Gload in the #8 spot. Not sure about anyone else, but I like that a hell of a lot. I can only hope it gets done.

Damn, I had no idea he was a receiver for FSU, or that he was atleast recruited as a receiver. He must have been pretty good if he was recruited by a bigtime NCAA school like that. Glad he chose baseball though.

Anybody take the second part of the spelling bee game yet? I got 11 out of 20 total...I don't know how the hell I got 5 right on the second part, but I did. They say I'm average.
-
Other good ones I just basically touched on those that we got this past offseason Of course you can include Willie, Marte, and Olivo...we got Willie for Chris Singleton, and I think he's in Pittsburgh now...got Marte for Matt Guerrier, and he's now in Minnesota...and we got Olivo for Chad Bradford, and he's the only one we've dealt that has had good success, and I like Olivo over him anyways. However, for every Willie Harris, there is always a Ryan Kohlmeier. You gotta deal with those too.

Isn't it just totally ironic that on June 3rd, for two straight years, the Devil Rays have made millions of White Sox fans across the country yell "GO TAMPA BAY!" ? Beautiful.

No we don't. Taking them lightly would be a mistake, but taking an attitude that it is the 7th game of the World Series against them every game would also be a mistake, because quite frankly, it's not. The only time it's game 7 is when there is no tomorrow for your season. That could be game 4 when you are down 3-0, could be game 3 if you're down 2-0, could be game 7 if you're tied 3-3. Period. The Tigers are mediocre. We should take them as a mediocre team with a solid offense and a s*** rotation.

It's not often that a team outscores the opposing team in a 4-game set and loses the series. The Twins just accomplished that feat. The Twins scored 23 runs in this series, 3 more then the D-Rays(who obviously scored 20), but lost the series 3 games to 1. That makes this all the sweeter.

6/10 Missed Len Pasquarelli, Miikka Kiprusoff, Stewart Elliott, and Laveranues Coles.

Because he sucks ass? About the only thing he could be good for is eating inning. Personally, I say we sign Chuck Finley, and then overplay the s*** out of a Whitsnake record.
-
Tampa Bay would be a 3rd place team in our division AT BEST. Their rotation is probably just a little better then the Royals. They're not a team you want to play, but they still suck ass.

Rick Helling quits Twins organization

Just a noteworthy tidbit that just kind of came to me(when I actually got down to thinking about it and seeing YAS's post)... The Twins won't flat out release him, and other teams have had interest in him. By teams, I assume more then 1, and I would assume that there is a team that is interested in him that is not in the AL Central. In other words, we probably won't get him unless the market for him completely dies and the Twins are forced to release him. -
I like the way you think, especially with Sweeney and Anderson coming up through the system pretty quickly. I like Sabathia a lot. I think he's a fat ass, but he's got good stuff, has postseason experience(2001...can't remember if he won a game or not, but I know for a fact that he pitched), and, as you said, is very young. I like Sheets due to the Beckett-effect he could bring to the team. He has sick stuff, just like Beckett, and if he figures it out and gets rolling in September and carries it into October, he could be dominant. I don't remember what Freddy Garcia looked like when he was going good, but if we could get him for cheap, I'd seriously consider making that move as well. I'd say get one of the 3 at the very least. Then I'll be happy. If you can get either Sabathia OR Sheets at that price, I'd do it. As you pointed out, Sheets/Sabathia replaces Cotts, and then Borchard is the piece that makes the move. You live with what he does in his new home. I would prefer his new home be Milwaukee, but Milwaukee doesn't have Sabathia, they have Sheets. Whatever move KW makes, I just hope to god he makes the right move. I don't know what the right move is, so it's a good thing I'm not GM right now.

To work with Jim's idea, Steve Finley should be available, and he could fit on this team perfectly. Give the D'Backs Timo Perez, just to fill a roster spot, and a solid prospect or two, and a deal could be made. Delgado could be an option, but it would be a very high price in all likelyhood...probably Lee, Konerko, and then a couple prospects too. Also, if we could get a solid player for Konerko, Tino Martinez from Tampa is an option. He'd give us good defense and a solid LH bat for about the 5th or 6th spot in the lineup. Personally, I like the idea of getting Finley.
-
I'd like Sheets, so long as we don't give up an arm and a leg. Sabathia, I say no....within the division, you don't make a trade like that. Just like why I don't want Beltran. Garcia, I'd like, if, once again, it didn't cost that much.
-
So what the hell's the point of coming on to Soxtalk then? Regardless, it is KW's job to put a team out there that wins, and winning brings in fans, which in turn brings in money, which let's KW put together a better team. That's like clockwork, which is why he SHOULD care what we want.

Koch gave up the hits, therefore, Koch gets the blame. Rowand f***ed up, big deal. Koch should have gotten the hitters out when he needed to.
-
That's why you have a pitching staff and a good bullpen - to shut down the opposition when you don't hit well in the right situation. You won't always get the big hit, and that's when you need a rock solid rotation and bullpen to shut the door. We had exactly that for 8 innings. Then Koch came in.
-
If that's the case, I'd like to see Koch finish with an ERA below 5.00. Koch sucks. He should set up from now and and Shingo should be closer. Period. Who cares if no one has seen him, even if they had seen him, they still wouldn't hit him. He's f***ing nasty. BTW, where was that huge heat that Koch had the other night? I thought he hit 98 on the gun recently.

I want an ace. Not a #4 starter. Regardless, Schmidt has pitched in big games before(ie postseason), and has pitched well. He had a WHIP of less then one last year. He had an ERA of 2.34 last year. He has a K/9 of 9 and a K/BB of about 5. Trachsel has nothing on Schmidt, other then the fact that he takes a few minutes between pitches at times. The Mets can keep Trachsel. If they want to do buisness with us, tell them to give us Glavine or nothing.
-
Because sometimes you'll get Ramon Hernandez and Terrence Long for Mark Kotsay...or Ted Lilly for Bobby Kielty. Simple as that.
-
I want to win now. Jason Schmidt is an ace. He will help us win now. Marquis Grissom, while advanced in age, still plays like he's 30 and still has a quick bat and is quick on his feet. Grissom would probably not come back, but Schmidt is signed through 2005 and has an option for 2006. I wouldn't mind having a 1-2-3 of Schmidt, Buehrle, Loaiza for 2 more years after this.
-
Not even close. He's not hitting around .200 and isn't clogging them up. His swing isn't long as hell where it is all or nothing. Crosby will finish around .250-.260 and will only get better. Crede will have to go on one hell of a surge to get to .250-.260.
-
f*** Maggs for Trachsel, I don't give a s*** who the prospects are. The main deal is Maggs for Trachsel. How about no. I say trade him to San Francisco for Jason Schmidt and Marquis Grissom, with us maybe including a solid prospect(probably Rauch). Gives us an ace, a CFer/RFer, and payroll flexibility, and gives the Giants a true threat to put behind Bonds, something they haven't had since Kent left.

Best starting pitchers theoretically available
witesoxfan replied to SoxAce's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Did I miss a trade or something the Expos said saying that Livan Hernandez is not available? He makes around $7 mill a year, and I'm sure a trade could be worked out to get him here. He's not your typical ace, but he's thrown very well for Montreal the past couple years, and has pitched in two World Series with the Marlins and Giants(and was the MVP of the 97 World Series). He's got good stuff and a rubber arm. What's not to like?
