If he's praising the White Sox, he's tooting his own horn. Afterall, he predicted the Sox to win the division.
-
I would guess it is a number of things that people just remember and will never forget. They hold a grudge. Getting to the point, those things are... 1) Supporting the strike in 94 with the Sox in first 2) The White Flag trade of 97 with the team 3 games out I would say those are the main two, with other contributing factors being "I would trade all 6 NBA Rings for 1 World Series ring" and then him not following through with that promise, and him not spending the $70-80 mill that we want. What I say to those people is get the hell over it. It's over and done with.

Drop the Graffanino thing. He was never a good starting SS, and probably never will be.

I figured whitesoxfan was taken on the MLB boards. I also thought the MLB boards said it had to be 10 letters. whitesoxfan was 11 letters, so it was either take out the i and make it whtesoxfan(not pretty) or witesoxfan( ) And that's where I am.

Outside the Lines with Bob Ley

Damn, he'd kick my ass on the court and in class. -
Couldn't have been said any better.

Unless you win the Wild Card, 2nd place is just as bad as last place, if not worse. Your fans are devastated, and you don't get a top pick. What's up with that now, eh?
-
Long and loopy. It seems that it is usually all or nothing for him right now.
-
No, he'd be the 5th. I would rather have Garland, Scho, Buehrle, and Loaiza going before him in the rotation, therefore, he is the #5 starter. $6 mill is too much for a #5. Give me Garcia, Schmidt, or Hernandez. I don't care how hot their wives are.
-
I think people take Cincinatti too lightly. They have a solid rotation, a good bullpen, and a pretty good offense. They are a team that is maybe a very good pitcher away from making some noise. If they can get Freddy Garcia, Jason Schmidt, Livan Hernandez, hell, even Randy Johnson, they could be very good. They could very easily finish above the Cards and maybe even above the Astros/Cubs for second place....if they get that pitcher, they could finish first. They are doing what they need to right now. If they can get a 5-8 game lead going into the ASB(which I personally find very unlikely), they are looking good.
-
How about WHIP then? 1.38? The fact that he's had the opportunity to come in and save games where the Sox have had 2-run leads or 3-run leads and then almost blew those leads tells me enough. I'm suggesting that he has gotten lucky that he has only blown 1 save in 8 chances. So, I don't care that all you think about is that Billy Koch just saves games(and BTW, we are only in May...we'll see how many games he has blown in July or so). I don't want to pay $5 buying a new bottle of Tums every time Koch comes in, watching him load the bases and come inches away from letting it all get blown to hell.

No. Berroa seems to be in Joe Crede-land right now, hitting .236 with an OBP of .264(lower then the average of most of the players on the Sox). And Smiley is mediocre. Meanwhile, you are giving them our only LH power in the lineup and a 3Bman with a good future, to go along with a player on the rebound in AAA and a solid pitching prospect? KC would cream their pants if they saw that deal come up, and we'd be f***ing our future up in a hurry. It solves no problems. Only makes more problems. We need an ace and another LH power hitter, along with some bullpen depth. Simple as that.
-
He makes $6 mill. Too much for a #5 starter, especially since he'd be making more then anyone in the rotation. Get Garcia or Hernandez or Schmidt. Not Benson. Besides, why do we need a player with a hot wife? We have the Hot Chicks Thread for a reason.
-
Willie probably couldn't do that either. It's also been proven Jose can't hit breaking balls at all. If he had to hit a breaking ball to win the World Series, I would cry. Honest to god, I would. What we really need is a good utility IF, one who can hit a breaking ball, can hit LHP, and one who can play 2B, SS, and 3B. Damn I miss Tony G.
-
Because he has a guaranteed contract of $1 mill. That's why. We're not the Red Sox or Yankees where we can afford to option a pitcher who is making millions of dollars to the minors. We just can't.
-
Nah, I just think he is a mediocre OFer who is a good backup option.
-
He was bad tonight. He looked ugly against LHP. He's ALWAYS looked bad against LHP, no matter what the pitcher throws. But let's all completely forget about his 1.000 OPS against RHP(which, BTW, is leading the team...in fact, he's the only player on the team with an OPS of 1.000 against RHP...Thomas is second with .991). He looked like s***. Who would you rather have out there, Willie Harris and his .192 OPS against LHP?
-
We've had better days. But we've had worse days too. Be happy the Twins lost, the Cubs got shutout, and let's move on. Get 'em tomorrow.

Any Miami Dolphins fans here...

I know exactly why. That's why they'll go 16-0, and win the Superbowl. Just to piss you off. -
Jas, just so you are clear on this... You would rather have Willie Harris in against the lefty(.067(1-for-15) .192 OPS) then Jose Valentin(.211(8-for-38) .618 OPS)? Personally, I choose the guy who has the higher BAA then the others OPS. However, I do understand Willie needs to get some PT. Another days rest can't hurt though.

They all want to piss me off. :finger LMAO, actually, I don't know why. -
I do believe Timo was playing in Minnesota because Harris was a little banged up. Nothing more.

He's 28. And the Braves will not take Konerko for Drew straight up. In fact, we'd have to give up quite a bit for that trade to work out. Konerko makes $7.5 mill this season and that changes to $8 is he is traded, and has been pointed out elsewhere, Drew makes $4.2 this season. There is a big difference there, and we'd have to give up Diaz and Rauch for the Braves to even consider it. No. I don't want Drew. Give me friggin Finley. He's hitting the ball well right now, and would cost very, very little. He has World Series experience with the DBacks and Padres. He's gone after this year as well. What's NOT to like about that?

We can agree on this as well. I do think RA can be useful when deterimining a pitcher's value. You also have to consider who was playing behind him and how bad they were too. If a guy's RA is say 3.50, but he has 7 GG's with all kinds of range behind him who have great hands and can make damn near any play, you have to take that into effect. And the opposite is true too...if a guy's RA is around 4.50 or 5.00, and his defense is full of Royce Clayton's and D'Angelo Jimenez's, that has to be considered. Basically, if a guy's RA is close to his ERA, take a look at the defense behind him, because it may be very good, and if his RA is way different then his ERA, look at the defense behind him, because he could have s***ty-ass fielders behind him. Using a comparison of ERA and RA is a good way to determine a starter's value. And I agree with the last part too. I believe a wild pitch is considered an error, so when the runner on third scores, it is ruled as an unearned run. That should not be so. Another stat I want to see is keeping track of a catcher's W-L record. Not a lot is said about how a catcher calls a game. Sometimes, that can show a lot.

I thought that's what they were doing all along...?
