Roman, you like to read, and I'm sure you read a little on Comiskey. You know that he didn't pay his players very much at all in a time of no free agency, right? You do know why the White Sox were known as the Black Sox in the late 1910s and that era, right? Comiskey was too cheap to pay for laundry....and because of that, the White Sox uniforms were never washed. Thus, their socks were black, and they acquired the name "Black Sox"....I believe this is true anyways. I also remember reading a little about him about how he had to pay a player a bonus of about $1,000 if he won 25 games, or something like that. When the pitcher had 24 wins, he had him benched, and he didn't get the bonus. What a nice guy, huh? Comiskey was the main reason and the main motive behind the players accepting of the bet. When you are getting, hypothetically, $2,000 a year and you will get a $1,000 bonus for winning the Series and are guaranteed $5,000 each if you throw the series...which are you going to do? With the World Series, you get the little bonus(and that is even if you win it....you might not even win it) and $2,000....while with the bet, you get $5,000....that is a lot of money and way more than you would get for playing the World Series. And the main reason Jackson was banned was because Comiskey was friends with the judge, not because he accepted any money. In fact, he didn't accept ANY money. I assume Comiskey wanted him and the 8 others banned because they disrespected him badly and were 'accepting' more money than he would give them. He wanted them punished harshly and told the judge this. I'm surprised more people weren't happy with the name change of the stadium.....we now will rarely have to hear that asshole's name, unlike before, when we had to hear it almost every day. A great name for a stadium would be Veeck Stadium....that is what we should name the stadium when USCF's name-contract ends.....he was quite possibly the best owner ever. He devoted a ton of time and he knew what he was doing, and he could field a winning team with any team. He was also a hell of an attention drawer....he drew like over 80,000 people to the Municipal Grounds in Cleveland during the '48 World Series and knew how to please the public....he had a midget bat, which had never and will never be done again. That got people to show up and watch a team(the Browns) that sucked ass. He also started showing fireworks after games and after homers and stuff like that. He also had "aliens" drop down on the field during the game and "abduct" I believe Luis Aparicio and Nellie Fox(one of whom was Eddie Gaedel, the same midget who batted). Point of this being....if Jackson was an asshole, Comiskey was the cause. And that Veeck was a great owner.

Because Miles is 27 and he's always been behind someone at 2B in the organization....he was behind Biggio in Houston and was behind Durham here in Chicago....and now he may be behind Jimenez(hopefully not). I believe those are the only two teams he's ever played for.

oh my friend, after a frantic day at the law office and then sititing four hours with a dying man and his children, grandchild, and greatchildren, considering I buried the man's wife and married and baptized most of the rest of those present, you can't imagine. We are waiting for Walt to die - he lay there gasping for air, he is 86, and for him, it is over, just a matter of when, but no matter how that is fixed in one's head it is never fixed in one's heart. After times like that I really need to get stupid with stuff like baseball and tattoos just to get an emotional and mental break - because today I go back over to the house for sitting with the family some more. Atleast there's baseball and tattoos. I hope they can get through this all right....it's never easy losing someone you love.

Hey...there's always Byron Leftwich....he looks to be real good. Like Daunte Culpepper in Minnesota....only smarter(Daunte is a dumb f***....but I think he smartened up a bit at the end of last year....either that or else the Queens just got lucky as hell....game winning run up the gut by Daunte against New Orleans with like 30 seconds left....a 50+ yard field goal as time expired or something for Gary Anderson against Miami....yeah, they got lucky). If you get a QB in the first round....get him. Then I'd get some help defensively and then draft McGahee in the 3rd or 4th round....probably put him on IR this year...and bring him back up next year(like the 04 season). By then, the Bears could be a hell of a team. If the Bears develop Leftwich well....and McGahee is recovered 90% from his injury(because there is no way in hell a RB can recover 100% from a torn ACL, let alone a torn MCL too). So long as they keep Urlacher. I'd watch out for the Queens this year though....they could come out of the game and kick the holy s*** out of the Packers. If they get a receiver to backup Moss....they could have a real good offense, with a balanced attack of passing and rushing....and I'd watch out for Bennett too....if he can get a good defensive line in front of him...he could be a 2000 yard back. He's got Olympic speed, and if he gets in the open field, you got no shot at getting him. I think they could trade for Peerless Price...and then give the Bills a first round pick and then maybe a 5th round pick too. I hope the Bills trade Price to like the Bengals or something for a first round pick...they could throw in Alex Van Pelt too....that way the Bills could get Suggs....that'd be the s***. Maybe get like a 5th rounder too in that one....get some more help. The Bills got 2 good receivers as it is...Moulds and Josh Reed....and Reed can play ball. He is like Jeremy Shockey...only he's not an asshole and he doesn't spout off his mouth and he's not a tight end...but he can run over people.I remember seeing him do that a couple times last year. He's gonna be a stud....second best receiver in Bills history with the last name of Reed(and hopefully the first one to win a Superbowl ).
