  1. Rowand is scrappy....we need that kind of player. Who, besides Rowand, on the White Sox is scrappy? Not only that, but he is a pretty good ballplayer too
  2. Wasn't Guerrier a closer/reliever and then converted into a starter? And then didn't he put up like an ERA of about 3.50 or something in 140-150 innings or so? We had enough lefties as it was....Marte, Wunsch, and Porzio are all MLB ready right now.....and then you have Munoz, Stewart, Sanders and most likely more I'm not even thinking about....and it's not like a decent lefty is expensive(hell, the Yankees signed Chris Hammond, the NL ERA leader last year with an ERA of .94, for $1-2 mill or so....given, that's a career year, but you get the point....hell, any lefty would do....the Giants used ex-Sox pitcher Scott Eyre as their lefty during the World Series last year). I think converting him to a starter is the wise thing to do.

    "El Duque"

    I guess so. It's a good thing I'm not like 25 or 26 and me saying this....lol

    "El Duque"

I'd say somewhere in the middle....36-38....something like that. Put it this way....he's probably old enough to be my dad.
  5. Now, I haven't seen HSC to now this....but from her board name and the way you have complimented her cw....I have got to ask.... Would you be sitting by her because she is very knowledgeable or because she is good looking?
  6. HSC....do you suppose that he will keep babying his arm or that he will go back to the Frank of old? Just curious...because I believe he'll be fine either way.
  7. The title suggests that you would be choosing between Marte or Guerrier....but that's not what the post contains. Just to let you guys know. Guerrier will be a decent major leaguer....whether it is as a starter or a reliever. Regardless....I'm happy with having Marte. And there was too big a risk in not trading for Marte....if I understand the waiver system correctly, according to Jayson Stark's 25 rule changes thing, all the NL teams would have gotten a shot at Marte before us, and then the teams in the AL worse than us would have....that is about 20 teams that would have gotten a chance at picking up Marte before us....so waiting for him would have been the wrong decision. I'm glad he traded for Marte....because we needed a lefty and he got us one with a good arm.
  8. I think you're probably right....only Koch has really said anything at all this offseason that could resemble anything close to trash talk....and that was pretty much just to set the tone for the players. I read the article on the White Sox homepage(good news BTW...Rowand will be ready for ST), and he said that in August last year when the young guys came up they had so much enthusiasm that it rubbed off on the older guys and created good team chemistry....and I realized that. Once I figured that out, that was when I knew we had a chance to be something special this year....and then we made the moves we made this offseason. I figured we had a good shot at dethroning the Twins with the team we had at the end of the 2002 season....if we don't win the division this year, I am going to be truly disappointed.
  9. Are you living in 1917? I like our chances....and we have a lot of similarities to the Angels of last year(4 30/190 guys, though the Angels had 5, added some to the bullpen to make it great, added one starter, got rid of a cancer[or 2], and had a player win the Big League Challenge), but I'm not ready to declare ourselves World Champions....though I'd like to.
  10. ...we are getting under Gardenhire's skin without doing much? Story on Gardenhire He seems pissed with us and we haven't done anything....Koch called them lucky....winning 94 games takes some luck. Koch also called Pierzynski a jackass....I can understand that, and I think Pierzynski will think twice about showboating around the next time he faces Koch(after he hears some chin music). It also kind of sounds like Gardenhire is either... a ) scared as hell of the Sox chances OR b ) thinking we still suck Either way, I like our chances this year...I have for a while.
  11. Wright was also 9-4 after the break....something tells me Coop has something to do with that....like maybe teaching him how to keep the team in the game and giving 5-7 strong innings even when you don't have your best stuff. If you can keep the team in the game, you can win every single one of them.
  12. I got one name for you.... Paul Konerko. In the first half, he hit something like .330 20 65....in the second half, he hit about .280 7 30....given, his second half had something to do with his nagging foot injury, but the home run derby did mess up his swing. I assume Maggs has been in charitable things like this in the past...so I'm not worried. But there is reason for concern there....and you don't have to look any further than 1B for the White Sox in Paul Konerko.
  13. Let him develop in the minors....get him some more minor league innings, making sure he is ready. Something like that.
  14. Unless Fogg can pull a Buehrle(and really only one pitcher has pulled a Buehrle...I hope I don't have to tel you who it is), Wells will be the better potcher over time. Wells threw a complete game earlier this year....and he struck a guy out with his last pitch...a fastball....that reached 97 MPH. That's Colon-esque without the blubber or afro.
  15. An interesting note(some good and bad news for White Sox fans).... Last year's winner, Troy Glaus, had a down year offensively compared to years past...I believe something like .250 30 80 or something like that with 125-150 K's. However, the Angels also won the World Series, and Glaus came up huge in the playoffs, and even took the World Series MVP. This year, Maggs won it....you don't suppose that all the above will hold true, do you?
  16. I wasn't even born in the 70s(I was born in 87), but I've heard stories about Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson and so many others....they had terrible clubhouse chemistry and they would get into fights....but they put up good numbers, and they won 3 straight Series titles. This team needs to understand that you can play good baseball if you don't have good team mojo....just play as well as you can 162 games of the year, and you'll be fine. Teams like Minnesota need good team chemistry...and though it helps, it is most definately unnecessary.
  17. For the record, signing Rogers would give our staff 3 30/210 guys. However, I don't believe that having new guys coming in that can do that is important...I think the fact that we had 3 guys do it last year for us is. Because of that, the guys that are still in the pen from last year(Glover, Marte, Wunsch) will be better because of it....I'd expect huge years out of those 3. However, the rest of our bullpen WILL benefit from the fact that we have 5 guys that can pitch 200 innings....methinks the bullpen will like the fact that our rotation will throw 1050-1100 innings, barring injury, and that we have a lot of pitching depth(assuming we do in fact sign Rogers). I really like our chances this year....more than last year. However, we better hope that one of Garland and Wright pitches really well this year, or atleast well enough that if we were to make it to the playoffs, Rogers wouldn't have to be used....his 9.47 ERA in the postseason is nothing to write home about.
  18. When was the last time the Sox had the best hitter in the majors? I can't remember
  19. Bill Parcells signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Bucs....I don't think the Bucs will be playing with a grudge when they play the Cowboys and kick the s*** out of them. That's too damn bad for Chunichi.....they'll just have to live without him.
  20. So why did Griffey's Mariners make it to the ALCS in 1995? It seems like Griffey came up quite clutch in the ALDS of that year. I'm quite sure that the A's of the 70s wouldn't have cared about his attitude...as long as he put up good numbers, it would have been fine with them.
  21. This offseason, we nearly acquired Russ Ortiz via trade....we were 'disappointed' when he got traded to the Braves. Also this offseason, we offered a contract to Omar Daal and he declined it....and we were 'disappointed' when he rejected it. Now we could make off like bandits again if we sign Rogers to a smaller deal...man, would that be cool as hell. I hope KW offered the right Kenny Rogers a contract...I don't want a damn country music singer to be our 5th starter!
  22. Really? So if Delgado only cost 8 mill as opposed to 18 you wouldn't do the trade? Common, it's not like we are talking about Tony Clark or Fred McGriff here, whitesox247. Paul's potential and leadership are nice to have and all that (although the latter os overrated; whining is NOT equal to chemistry), but Delgado's best year is amazing 300 OPS points higher than Paul's. With shorter fences at the Cell, Delgado is an automatic MVP. are you saying delgados gonna have more homers? well whos the one that got to the home run derby last year How many homers did Konerko have all last year? How many did Delgado have all last year? Konerko fell off during the second half Last year, Delgado hit 30 points worse than Konerko did....yet, at the same time, had an OBP 50 points higher than Konerko. Guys with good OBP are good hitters. I'd have to agree with brando on this one.....if we had Delgado in our lineup, he'd hit 45 homers and walk 150 times...though he'd strike out over 100 times as well. No big deal with me if he walked 150 times as well. With those 45 dingers could come about 130-150 RBI....those numbers could be better than what Konerko ever puts up. I assume you've seen first hand what Delgado can do with protection....just look at his 2000 season, and then realize that he had Tony Batista, Jose Cruz, Raul Mondesi and Shannon Stewart around him, and them all having good years...there was talk of him hitting for the triple crown. He ended up hitting .344 41 137 with a 470 OBP....those numbers are sick. He'd put up similar numbers here too. In 2001, Batista sucked, Mondesi started to fall off production wise and Stewart had a worse year, if I remember correctly...only Cruz stayed hitting well. This past year, Vernon Wells, Eric Hinske and in the second half Jose Phelps, but Cruz sucked this year as well. You can understand why his power numbers went down. However, he'd cost way more than Konerko would.
  23. Goddamn...I really gotta get me a PS2!
