  1. Hey someone....you should get someone to write an article on this....and then have the headline be "Mientkiewicz's mouth as big as his name" !!!
  2. Chisoxfn, these are exactly the type of mistakes Jose rarely makes, the mental errors. In fact, his baseball savy more than makes up for the occasional booted ball. I'll say this about his physical errors, someone mentioned focus and I'm sure that is the deal. His errors generally occur in non-crucial situations or when there is no one on base. It's like his focus picks up in tight games, runners on base, needing that next out type of situation. Oh I know Jose doesn't make many mental mistakes. I was just bringing up what I don't like. He does chase too many horrible pitches and makes too many errors. I think he can solve one of them, and cut back on the other (ie, Errors). If he does those two things I'll be very happy cause I know his other numbers will be better then most shortstops. Jason....you're not starting to like Jose now are you? Anyways.....I really don't think that those 36 errors are that big of a deal....he did that in 2000....in the games he made errors, how many would you bet that the Sox had a sizeable lead at the time of the error(say, 3 runs or more)....I'd guess probably about 10-15 atleast...maybe more. So, defensively, I think we'll see a lot of errors this year out of Jose....because we have an explosive offense and a dominant 1-2 punch along with a good 3-4-5. I could see a 40+ error season coming up....but, IMO, it doesn't necessarily make him a bad SS.....because I think he'll hit .270-.280 with 30 bombs and 90-100 RBI....but that's my opinion....assuming Frank puts up the numbers he has in the past(which I know he will). I think our lineup will be the best in the majors....and our pitching will be good. We have the minor league depth to acquire a need at the deadline, if necessary....we are ready for the season. I can't wait.
  3. Jose has been proven....he has hit 25 or more homers the past 3 years...and he makes a lot of errors...so what. He gets the job done. For the runs he gives up defensively, he makes up with his power and timely hitting. Jose's good Jimenez will be fine as well....and at catcher, we atleast have a good defensive guy in Miguel....I'm worried about CF, and that is it....will it be Rowand, Borchard or Harris or maybe someone else? That is my only concern.
  4. That's weird...we had a great rotation in 1993....and 3 went on to bigger and better things, except for Bere, who blew chunks after that, and then 'rejuvenated' his career with the sCrUBS, and is now in Cleveland....Black Jack went to New York, then Cleveland and then Anaheim, didn't he? He's since retried and is now in a rock band....not a bad life though. Fernandez won a World Series with the Marlins in 1997 but blew out his arm that year and hasn't put up very good numbers since then(if he's put up numbers at all)...and Alvarez was decent for a while with the Sox, until he got traded to San Fran in the White Flag deal...he then went to TB where he was decent until he f***ed up his arm, and now he's with the Dodgers. All of them have had injuries that have ruined their careers....and you wonder why JR is so cautious about signing pitchers to long term deals....it kind of makes sense. However, I don't agree with it....those are the risks you take in baseball as an owner...if you don't, you won't win anything.
  5. You know what....we could just call him 'Jon' or 'Rauch' or 'Jon Rauch' too!
  6. Jason...you could say Ginter and Porzio as backups....not waiting in the wings though. You know what....Porzio should be given a shot at the #5 spot in the rotation. He's 31 or 32 and he's never really been given a shot. I atleast want to see if he can have a decent ST....if he does, we should trade him to a team that could use him for practically nothing...just to see if he could have some success. And then maybe we could get some diamond in the rough in the deal....so who knows.
  7. I like what Jose brings....a left-handed bat with some power...he hits well with RISP...and he has good range and a good(but inaccurate) arm. For $5 mill....he's worth it in my book.
  8. mcginnis....the Phillies have no use for Lee whatsoever.....unless he pitches or if he plays 2B....LMAO. They have Burrell in LF and Thome at 1B....and for what it's worth, Abreu in RF and Bell at 3B. They don't want Lee and his overpriced ass.
  9. Which Sox are you talking about? Is their some local high school team named the Sox? The Indians blow....I hope you realized that. They'll be battling KC and Detroit for last place....how in the hell does that sound? Ellis Burks is your biggest power hitter....Burks wouldn't even start on the White Sox. The only players on the Indians that MIGHT get considerable playing time for the Sox would be Vizquel and Bradley....we don't want Vizquel, and Bradley can play CF...and that is something the Sox need....otherwise, everyone on the Indians is young and will suck this year. I hope you enjoy last place...because you will be in it for atleast the next 2 years, probably 3 or more. Meanwhile, we are ready to take the division crown from the Twins. And as many others have said....THANKS FOR BARTOLO! You are also an idiot....just thought I'd point that out, in case you didn't realize it.
  10. Baseball: I don't know.....I suppose probably the Pirates or the Astros....the Stros because I just like the way they play....big offense, big pitching...I like that. And the Pirates....well, it seems that they have the most Sox players out of any team in the majors right now! I also just like them as a team....I am really not sure why. I mainly follow the Sox though....and not really anyone else. I'm a Sox fan first, second and third, and then a baseball fan fourth. Football: Bills...love Thurman Thomas(in his later years....I didn't really pay attention to sports during their 4-year good-bad period), and then my love emerged from that. Still can't believe the damn Music City Miracle happened, and the Bills haven't been in the playoffs since. They will be this year though....oh, I also like the Ravens....their defense is badass...hell, they were 8-8 in a rebuilding year....they got some good coaching Basketball: Bulls....Jordan-Pippen-Rodman era....hopped on the bandwagon....when they are good, I will follow them some...when they aren't, I won't as much. I'm not that big of a basketball fan though. Hockey: No one....I don't like Hockey in the slightest, though if I had to say one team, I'd probably say the Hawks.
  11. As Soxfest said....CUBS stands for Completely Useless By September. Also, SOSA stands for Strikes Out Swinging Again. ALOU - Always Limping Off Urinal-field(OK, I made that one up....but it's pretty fun) Someone could probably make one up for Wood, Prior, Cruz, and maybe even others as well. OK....that's probably enough of that.
  12. Someone on one of these two teams will choke on their words....Koch called the Twins success last year lucky, and Mientkiewicz said this. I also believe Mientkiewicz has been quoted as saying something like "We'll see you next October since you won't be here in May" to an Angel fan in game 5 of the ALCS....but that's a rumor. If the Twins do what I believe they could(being just look over us and think the division is already won), then they are in for a treat....an ass-whooping. We have a better offense, a bullpen that is probably just as good and a 1-2 punch that reigns as one of the best in the league, and we got rid of our clubhouse cancers. Some of Dougie's teammates may not like him after what he said. Mathew....that is classic.....LMAO!
  13. I love the DH....and it's not like Thomas couldn't play if we didn't have the DH....he could play 1B. However, that's not the point....some teams use an over-the-hill player who can still hit decently but can't defense at all(cough-Edgar Martinez-cough), but most don't....they use their best hitter who is also their worst fielder at his position there and it works out greatly....we use Thomas at DH...I think everyone would agree with me that Konerko as well as Daubach and Graffy are better 1Bmen than Thomas....but I'm not sure how many people would even consider saying that they are better hitters than Frank....in Toronto, they have Josh Phelps hit as a DH....he is a catcher/1B type, but is not good defensively. Without the DH, fielding would get worse and guys like Paul Konerko and Josh Phelps would not get as much playing time as they do...which is why I can't stand NL ball. NL ball is dull.
  14. Both Hampton and CJ had trade clauses....Hampton waived his immediately without thinking, I presume, to get out of that hell hole that is Colorado, but CJ apparently had family in the FLA area or something like that...and he didn't waive his no-trade clause. But after thinking it over, he did finally waive his no-trade clause. If we could get him for next to nothing, and not give up much in return, I'd make the deal....but he'd only be a stopgap for Reed or Webster. Hell, if we had to give up Lee....I'd actually have to think hard about it. Wilson is due over $10 mill a year for the next two years and Lee will make $4.2 this year and what not else next year....and Lee's bat is better than Wilson....however, Wilson is faster, is a better baserunner(stating the obvious), better defensive(stating the obvious) and has a better arm. In the end....I'd have to say no....we don't need another frickin right-handed hitter in our lineup....give KC 5 prospects for Beltran...hell, the 5 prospects can even be somewhat decent(decent being a guy like Josh Stewart or someone like that and on down....no Malone's or Borchard's or Honel's....those are players we should not give up at all for whoever)
  15. Didn't Cerb say he heard it on the radio? If so, and I believe he did, than it would make sense as to why you can't find anything in written form anywhere.
  16. If Rauch is involved....I say thumbs down....no deal. If Rauch isn't involved and Malone or Stewart or someone of the likes is...I say thumbs up....deal. And then if we did in fact bring in Rogers, where in the rotation would he pitch....because if he pitched in the #4 spot, that would be great....we'd have a R-L-R-L-R rotation....and Rogers would be going against weak pitchers all over instead of going against great pitchers, like he was in the AL West.
  17. Hard to argue with Garland....or Borchard. I'll go with someone new... Olivo has to step up and play good baseball....he has to show that he can handle the everyday catching duties and hit well while swiping a few bags now and then....getting a .250 5-10 45-60 10-20 season out of him would be real nice, and I think he can do it. What would be very, very nice is if he went about .280 15 70 25, but that's asking a whole hell of a lot.
  18. What he's not taking into account is that the only solid(not good, but solid) starter we had for half the year was Buehrle....in the second half, Wright was pitching better and from August on(after Lofton was gone) the team started to play better ball. This year, we have a top 3 1-2 punch in the AL, good 3-5 starters, and a much better bullpen(on paper)....our lineup is better than it was last year and our bench is deeper. The Twins lost a very good arm in Mike Jackson and lost a good, but very streaky and K-proned, bat in David Ortiz and replaced Jackson with Fetters and Ortiz with a minor league signing of Chris Gomez....however, the Twins do have a very deep lineup, though their rotation is weak....I figured the Twins would be smart enough to trade Radke this offseason for some very good talent and then use Santana out of the pen while making a few other signings to shore up the pen....it makes no sense why they didn't do that. Still though....the Twins at #1 is stupid as hell....who gives a s*** about their upside....the A's would kick the s*** out of the Twins in a SEVEN game series and the Yanks would kick the s*** out of them in a SEVEN game series....hell, I like our chances of kicking the s*** out of them in a SEVEN game series....any team could win a goddamn FIVE game series...I could honestly see a team like the D-Rays beating a team like the Athletics in a 5-game series....all that matters is that you're hot and the other team is not. I also guess he doesn't realize that we have a bigger upside than the Twins do....MHO anyways...I guess he is a Twins fan.
  19. Olivo will most likely be the regular catcher this year(catching between 85-110 games or so)...Sandy is really here to be a backup, regardless of what Manuel says. No team really has a regular catcher....their catcher may go 5 or 6 games a week....but that's it. Added up, that's about 120 or 130 games a year...and that's at the very most. I guess that is regular playing time for a catcher though. Anyways, I'd say the Sox last regular catcher that actually stuck around and did some damage was Ron Karkovice...and then before him was Carlton Fisk.
  20. How about the fact that Alomar is liked by our staff and his agent is NOT Scott Boras? Or that he brings a lot of knowledge to the game, or that if he could play 100 games(which he won't), he'd hit .260-.270....and he's about $7 million cheaper. Is that good enough for you? Talent wise, he's not as good as CJ....then again, we have enough talent on this team....but no brains(*cough* Carlos Lee *cough*)
  21. I'll tell you why I'd rather have Alomar than CJ....CJ hit .220 last year...that good enough for you?
  22. Rosenthal's mailbag 3rd question down....that is yours truly....Blake Simon. There is also a little blip down near the bottom of the page that tells that the White Sox would like to get Kenny Rogers, but payroll is a problem.
  23. I know he hasn't played much minor league ball....but it doesn't mean he can't hit major league pitching....I think he'd do fine, and that all he'd need to do is play some winterball and just work on his mechanics and stuff there....he's be able to adjust up here. I see two problems with banking on Harris or Rowand.....Rowand may not be ready, and Harris sucks. I think that's big enough problems...in my mind anyways. Borchard should make the team out of ST....I hope he does. Assuming Rowand isn't ready, I would rather have Borchard over Harris....we need more team speed, but I think we need left-handed power more than we need speed. I admit that I did miss the barring injury part....my bad.
