God, how tragic....this is quite scary. It just goes to show that even the best can be flawed at times, and sometimes stuff like this happens. However, we must move on. But this was obviously not a terrorist attack....you're not going to sneak up to the launch pad and put something on the shuttle, and it's way too big to do something like that, and then you're not going to hit it with a missle of any type at all...I'm pretty sure that it would be quite hard to hit something going at 12,000 MPH.

Oh s***...don't say that...Cubs fans(as well as every other fan) will rip us to s***....Ligue and son....cell...prison. The Cell = bad idea

So if Rowand isn't ready, then we WILL use Harris? What the f*** is wrong with him? Harris has a lot of potential, but I don't want a clog in our lineup hitting .220 and grounding out a ton....he could have an on-base % of about .250! I don't like the idea of having Harris start in CF....I'd much rather have Borchard or someone else.......I think you know who I'm talking about.

BigHurt...the fact of the matter remains that we ARE weak up the middle...Jose's got a good bat and is probably a top 10 SS in the majors, and probably the 5th or 6th best SS in the AL(behind A-Rod, Tejada, Jeter, Garciaparra and possibly Vizquel), but he's our only proven quality up the middle...Jimenez showed signs of returning to form after his accident, but nothing is guaranteed. Rowand may not even be ready for CF yet, and that leaves us with either Borchard or Harris....and then you got Olivo as the starting catcher with Sandy as the backup and one of Paul, Burke, or Morales being the #3 catcher(however, if Burke can play more than just catcher, say, maybe 3B and LF and RF, as well as 1B, that is very good and he should make the team....IF he can do that, that is)....we COULD be strong up the middle....ideally, Valentin has a 2000-ish year, Jimenez has a very good year and returns to the form he had prior to his accident, Rowand is healthy and does an excellent job in CF or Borchard wins in ST and is a very good LH power hitter for us, and Olivo lives up to his expectations, and hits about .270 15 60 20 or so for us while playing excellent defense with an excellent arm....none of that is guaranteed, which is why we are weak up the middle.

Munoz has two curveballs? Sheesh...if he can get a decent offspeed pitch and build up some stamina, he could be one hell of a pitcher in the near future. Is it just me or could he be the second coming of Barry Zito?

We are now just your basic, run of the mill ballpark....we don't have a name that sticks out(US Cellular....that's pretty bland), it's not near the longest name of a ballpark(The Ballpark in Arlington, Network Associates Collisieum), you can't use it's name as an acronym(ie, the BOB...unless you want it to sound like we're named after USC)...I guess the only positive that comes out of this is the fact that the Sox will get $68 million or whatever it is over 3-years.....that's a s***load of money. I am still going to refer to it as Comiskey anyways....US Cellular Field will never catch on for me....it isn't catchy enough....the name has 6 syllables total....and nothing in the name sticks out...it is very bland.....it just bugs me how boring that frickin name is. Atleast if it were SBC Communications or Motorola, it wouldn't be just plain boring like that....I mean, US is short for United States, and we all knew that....and Cellular is a very generic and general word....I wish Motorola would have atleast bought the naming rights....Motorola Park or Motorola Field doesn't have a bad ring to it....Motorola Stadium...something like that is something I would have liked more. Atleast we get a b****load of money along with it.

I agree with Jim....if we are going to use a new pitcher out of the #5 spot or a new pitcher as a whole, why go with damaged goods? We may as well just use Malone/Stewart/Sanders/Munoz, etc. Teams that compete are teams that develop their younger players and suck for periods of time....teams that suck constantly are teams that develop some of their players but make stupid trades and bring in mediocre players....why do you think the Tigers and Brewers have sucked for such a long time?
-
I still think they need to give out free cell phones at one of the games....damn, that bugs me.
-
You all have fun....and make fun of KW for me....give him some strawberries or something...and say "We meant to get you blueberries."
-
God-f***in-damn....why couldn't they leave it at Comiskey Park for atleast this year.... US Cellular Field....they better as hell give out free cell phones, or I'm going to be pissed.

Rosenthal can write a good article and his inside dishes are pretty cool....but he can't predict worth a s***. Last year in prediciting winners in the playoff games, he only predicted 1 team right(compared to my 2!) and that's pretty bad...and then he judges teams based on which teams got to the LCS...so he's basically asking who is the best out of the Giants, Cards, Angels and Twins, while he doesn't consider the A's, Yankees, Braves, Phillies, Astros, D-Backs, Red Sox, Mariners or even our beloved White Sox(I didn't expect them to be #1...but I figured I'd bring them up anyways). It's fun to read some of his things...but that's a bit moronic, if you ask me.
-
I'd have to consider 13 and 1/2 games a "clear cut advantage". At a mininum, you have to give the 4 AL playoff teams from last year their respect. Boston and Seattle are also both right there. The Sox aren't better than anyone (except the Cubs ) until it is proven on the field. I don't buy into the fact that Minnesota has a better pitching staff than we do....Radke threw about 118 innings last year, and I believe Mays threw under 100, though Milton, Reed and Lohse all threw over 170 last year. That will effect their bullpen more than anything....Romero, Guardado, Fiore, and Hawkins all had career years and who's to say they will all repeat their good years? I don't think Guardado is that good of a closer and Fiore is a palm-ball specialist...Hawkins throws it hard and straight...I don't see why he can get that past big league hitters....Romero probably will be able to repeat, but I could see his numbers getting worse(if you want to call it that) with more exposure to the league. I could easily see our staff being much better than the Twins' staff. Garland, Wright, Buehrle and Colon will probably all throw over 200 innings, and that will take a big burden off our bullpen, and then that isn't mentioning how many innings we could get out of the #5 starter, whether it be Stewart, Loaiza, Heredia or, most likely, Rauch. As I said...they don't have a clear cut advantage...they may have an advantage, but it isn't a very big one...IMO anyways....though other teams's staffs could be argued. I agree on one thing though...the Cubs' staff can't be compared to ours.
-
Put it this way.... Jose Cruz got less than Polanco did....I think everyone in the world, aside from Polanco's relatives, would agree that Cruz is better than Polanco, and maybe Polanco's relatives would agree that Cruz is better. According to those numbers....Joe Crede should be making about $3 million already....uhhhhh, I don't think so.
-
Boston's rotation is better than ours, our bullpen is better than theirs....depending upon which one you value more, you'll find your choice for who has the better staff....I personally like having a great bullpen and having a solid rotation....though some may pick Boston's starting rotation because they like that more. However, there is no argument you can make that will get me to think their lineup is better than ours, and our bench is better than theirs as well....so as of right now, I'd say that we are just as good if not better than Boston....as well as many other teams in the league...but that's just the optimist in me. I'd say the only team with a clear cut advantage over us is Oakland....and who can argue that? They have a great 1-2-3 punch, a good bullpen and a good lineup....I'm not sure we could keep up with Oakland, but I know that it is possible.
-
Welcome on Jim.... Jeez....this website is getting out to the public and the family's of pro players in our system(along with some players in our system). Who's next?
-
The Phillies gave Placido Polanco $2,875,000 today....this is a guy that hits .290 with 10 homers and 50 RBI a year....I know he's a middle infielder and a decent one, but about $3 mill for this guy? Come on....and we think CLee is overpriced...atleast CLee does something productive.
-
I'd give them Stewart, Hummel, Ginter, Rowand and another RHP relief prospect(Adkins, West, etc) for Beltran....but I seriously doubt it gets done....however, if we could get Beltran....we'd be unstoppable. I made the same argument(on the whitesox.com board) for Jose Cruz Jr....bat him 5th...our lineup is... Jimenez Valentin Thomas Maggs Beltran(to break up the righties) Konerko Lee Crede Olivo 7 guys in that lineup can hit 25 homers....and I would guess that atleast 6 of them would hit 30 on protection in the lineup alone...and I could easily see Thomas, Maggs, Beltran, Konerko and Lee all hitting 40 homers....the only guys you can really pitch around are Crede and Olivo...as weak as Jose's bat is in the lineup, he does hit for decent power, especially since he's a SS. I could easily see that lineup scoring well over 1000 runs....and we could have innings that last 1 1/2-2 hours long...if we had that lineup, not only do I think would we be favored to win the division(which isn't necessarily a good thing), but we'd be considered World Series contenders....the outfield shrinks with Beltran's range, he's got a good arm....our defense improves, our offense improves....and even if it is for just a year, we do have Borchard coming up from the minors...he doesn't have the range that Beltran does, but his arm is just as good...and Lee could and should be gone after next year, but who knows. We will be a good team regardless this year....but this is one case where 1 piece is all it takes to take something that is great and turn it into unstoppable. However, I feel Colon was a huge(pun not intended ) piece to the puzzle, and quite possibly the thing that pushes us over the top.

The game or the homer? I guess my favorite Herbert Perry moment was a story...I watched the end of the A's/Sox game this year when Buehrle and Lidle dueled(a game in which the A's won 1-0) and there was a story about Herb...Koch was pitching for the Jays at the time and he came at Perry hard, like he always does, and Perry turned Koch around and sent the ball out of the park, and the Sox won. Herb is a hell of a player....I wish we could have him back.
-
I don't know...he probably will...this is the same guy that put Jose Valentin in CF....I could see him f***ing around with using Koch as a setup guy once a month....and he probably will. I hope he doesn't, but you never know with Manuel.
-
That would only cost us about 3 top prospects and cash....and then we'd get Beltran and some stupid ass prospect...and then we wouldn't be able to sign him long term, with his agent being Bora$$ and all....god I hate that motherf***er. If we could get Beltran for practically nothing, I'd love it....problem is, we won't get him for practically nothing....unless we give them Lee, which I wouldn't be opposed to, and it wouldn't exactly add a ton of $$$ on to their payroll....Beltran should be looking for money in the $10 mill range after this year or so....he won't get $10 mill, but he could get $6-8 mill on the market today....so I think we could get that much to resign him. He would then take over the 2 spot in the lineup and Daubach would take LF. If we could do it, I'd be happy....but I won't be disappointed if we don't. The Royals don't HAVE to cut payroll like the Expos did....so no team should really be getting stoked about getting Beltran unless they actually get him.
-
Oh god...throw this one out the window. When I saw that Matsui and Contreras were on there, especially at 2 and 3 respectively, I just thought "This list is horses***." I think many will agree....also consider that they had Borchard at 27TH....and he had about 6 NY guys ahead of Borchard....I think someone has his head up someone's ass(es)
-
We would probably have this year as a closer by committee situation, and as NYSF said, Foulke will earn more than Koch will this year and next year as well as probably 2005. I think our bullpen now looks better than it would have looked with Foulke in it...you want closer by committee? Go ahead...I'll take one main gun, and I'll gladly take a 98 MPH fastball out of that gun.
-
Loaiza will have to put up incredible numbers or Rauch is going to have to do very s***ty for Loaiza to make the roster. Rauch will be the starter even if he does just slightly worse than Loaiza.
-
Koch signs with Sox Here's the article that officially has his money amount....over $6 mill next year....that's quite a bit.
-
Perhaps a cardboard cut-out of JR exclaiming, "YOU GUYS STINK." And for every Sox win, a portion of JR's clothing is removed until the White Sox win the WS :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke :puke How about someone a bit better looking....the Sox would want to LOSE if it was Reinsdorf!
