  1. Non-coincidentally, into the 9th, and we have Holmberg, Swarzak, Jennings, and Infante all pitching in a 1 run game. No, there's no smoke at all.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Matt Thornton was pretty terrific pre White Sox and mechanic adjustment as well. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Or Jose Contreras...or Matt Thornton. The question is how well Kanhle handles the Bronx pressure cooker. I tried to do my best to limit Coop adjustments. Coop, even like 15 years into this, is still one of the best in the game, and always will be, until he dies or retires. Some guys take to adjustments, some guys don't, some of it's Coop's fault, some if it's the pitcher's fault, some of it is s*** that can't be fixed. It happens. Coop is awesome.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) Just wait till we call up Borchard and Rauch Still can't believe they traded Anthony Webster for Carl Everett.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:07 PM) No, he's not And if a "slight mechanical change" is all Kahnle needed to become the best reliever in the game for the next 4 years then A) Cooper needs a 10 year contract extension. B) I'll eat my hat I guess Andrew Miller went from some bum who couldn't figure anything out to a guy who turned into the best reliever in the game overnight. Not like a slight mechanical tweak could make that difference. Oh, and Jake Arrieta, he was just some back of the rotation fodder to Cy Young winner with what amounted to a slight mechanical tweak. Hell, let's go back 12 years. The White Sox claimed a fireball pitcher off waivers named Bobby Jenks. He worked with Coop a bit in Spring Training, converted to a reliever, and closed out the most important game in White Sox history in 88 years. No, a slight mechanical tweak doesn't mean s***.
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:02 PM) Thank you. Literally anything we get for players we don't need and salary we can dump is a win. Salary dumps should mean nothing. Relatively speaking, there is nothing attached to the 2018 payroll. If they are trading players off for a salary dump, then sign me up with whatever WBSWF is feeling, because that's total and utter bulls***. That said, this is not about a salary dump, so we'll forget you mentioned that.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:02 PM) s***, I'm still excited about Scott Williamson, that level of hype doesn't just wear off. Same for Scott Schoeneweis. Scott Schoeneweis was the left handed version of Esteban Loaiza. Unfortunately, it was the Esteban Loaiza from every other year of his career other than 2003.
  7. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:57 PM) lol at people who hate this deal. frazier = a rental and not even a good one at that, robertson = decent closer not particularly special or dominant with no value to current team, kahnle = one year wonder who was effectively a middle reliever last year. Robertson also looked terrible at times last year. Well David Robertson is 14th in reliever WAR since 2015 and there are legitimate reasons to believe that Kahnle has taken a step forward making him one of the best relievers in the league, so simplifying it like this is actually rather poor.
  8. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:56 PM) Nothing will match the Nomar thread though. Back then it was just crazy speculation and alleged insiders on message boards. I had never been so excited about Scott Williamson.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) No, I do understand. Look at the Cubs World Series roster and tell me about all the good players they got due to their (not even all that high) draft position. It won't take long because it's pretty much just 1 guy. Their rebuild was successful largely due to the trades, not their draft position. I hope the White Sox pursue it the same way because the draft position ain't worth that much when you know it's going to be a good one either way. The Sox are pursuing it almost exactly the same way the Cubs did, if not better, because they had more pieces to deal. They are going to be bad next year, but 2019 figures to be exciting, 2020 figures to show them competing, and 2021 this team is going to be awesome. Do not fret. This is not your father's White Sox rebuild.
  10. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) 564 users on this thread. Is this a record? Way beyond the record. Most users previously was 673 over Sale's trade. Last I checked, we were at 774.
  11. Hey, Matt Davidson is 0 for 3 with 0 K's!
  12. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:20 PM) Let's have a bet on Frazier's BABIP with the Yankees the rest of the way. He's currently at .214, xBABIP says .284. Let's put the over/under at .240. You in? I would bet under barring a huge shift in what he's doing at the plate. He is literally swinging for flyballs in an attempt to hit home runs, and hitting flyballs otherwise. His IFFB% is right around 17% over the past 3 seasons. His BABIP is s*** because it deserves to be s***.
  13. I mean, at least it would be a Blake who might make an impact in the majors. Tekotte did nothing to hold up the integrity of the name.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:47 PM) this would be smart https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status/887483082948956160 Without knowing contract situations, both would make sense.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:46 PM) Mateo's stock is really down at the moment, although the tools are obviously there. Sox are great at developing the hit tool though, so it's ok
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:41 PM) Lol, Torres was acquired for a bullpen arm. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but let's not use relievers being the reason why. Not only that, but a RENTAL bullpen arm who the Yankees just so happened to re-sign.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) 5% chance IMO. C. Frazier a 6% chance Hey, that's better than a 0% chance!
  18. Call me crazy, but what if Hahn and Cashman have been having ongoing conversations about Robertson and it came up as "what would it take for us to get Torres?" And Cashman said Frazier and Kahnle? The Yanks still have Gregorious through 2020 and he's turned into a pretty damn good player.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:08 PM) Almost positive Rutherford will be in this. Sox loved him last year and he was held out today. My guess is Blake, Andujar and Adams Charleston didn't play today, probably a good thing too. Got no-hit yesterday and Fanti faced the minimum.
  20. Say what you will, the Sox have not been easy to read. First it was Nats were close to Sale, then he went to Boston. Then Washington came out of nowhere to deal for Eaton. Then there was the rest of the winter, and then it was Brewers/Braves/Rockies/whoever, only to see Q dealt to Chicago. It could be the Yankees.
  21. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) Could be that a deal is close, and the Sox do not want to run the risk of him getting injured. There is definitely something up. You don't just scratched a player last minute unless there is an injury or trade in the works (or you cut up your jerseys), and Frazier does not appear to be injured. The White Sox themselves said he was a healthy scratch, and given that he's still in the building, he probably didn't cut up any jerseys. It's close, but there's nothing official or agreed upon yet.
  22. When I saw "the money works (with regards to a Frazier/DRob trade)" I was really afraid that Panda snuck his way into the deal. Honestly, if something like that happened, it wouldn't surprise me if the Sox did so just to take on extra prospects with Boston kicking in cash and the Sox just releasing him, but I think that was me overthinking.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 06:42 PM) Bruce said the money is right and Boston close to getting Frazier and DRob Would seem to indicate they are getting a good package of prospects together.
  24. QUOTE (striker @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 06:33 PM) I think Kahnle's floor is what the Red Sox paid for Tyler Thornburg, which was Yeison Coca (Red Sox #25), Josh Pennington (Red Sox #22), Mauricio Dubon (Red Sox #7) and Travis Shaw. Obviously we don't want a major leaguer like Shaw, we prefer prospects, but he had 5 years of control and was worth 2.2WAR when he was traded. I think if you look at the teams that are in the race: Brewers, Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, Tampa, Dodgers, Diamondback, Rockies, Astros, there will be an arms race for sure. I have no problem getting an MLB player who has 5-6 years of team control. It's getting a guy like Schwarber who really only has like 4 years of control left that it gets tricky.
