QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) Some vid of Burger taking BP in Chicago last night. https://twitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/879459062018179073 I'm no scout, but it looks like a lot of unnecessary movement in the hands and wrists.

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 11:26 PM) I'm sad to have seen the impossibly premature extension given to Tim Anderson, whose performance @ the plate looks like that was a bad move. One wonders if Leury might be the better SS going forward. Tim Anderson is making $4 million per year. If he averages 0.5 WAR per year, he'll be worth the money. There was nothing wrong with that extension whatsoever. You will end up eating your words on that one.

I give this rebuild a Dan Quisenberry out of Ivan Calderon, with the potential for it to be a George Bell or even a LaMarr Hoyt.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 11:44 AM) Not sure on the stros pen but I'd add kahnle to get the original package The Astros have one of the best, if not the best, bullpens in the game. As good as Kahnle is, I just don't see him moving the meter much for the Astros at the moment.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) Double that and you might be close. I mean this in the nicest possible way, but you don't understand how arbitration works. A $12-$14 million arbitration price would indicate that he is worth anywhere from $20-$24 million. Avisail Garcia is not worth $20-$24 million. The biggest contract I could see Garcia earning on the free agent market right now is something around 5/$80 or 5/$90, and that is a huge commitment to a guy who has had half of a good season. More likely it would be 3/$48 plus team options for 4 and 5 at around $18-20 million a year.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the link in the Soxtalk Facts post to the penis thread. I'm also pretty sure that's the best sentence I've written in at least 3 years.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Robertson and Q are the only White Sox that are rumored to be trade bait who have value. People that have mentioned Melky and Frazier and the like really surprise me, cause they, especially the stat lovers, should know better. I don't understand why you keep saying "stat lovers." How do you tell how good a baseball player is? By how well they wear their uniform?

Matt Davidson is also still striking out 39% of the time. That is a problem. Happy he is producing the way he is, but that number is crazy.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) I just extrapolated out their fWAR for what they would put up over 600 at bats...for example, Leury's just over 200, so he and Davidson have a lot more uncertainty baked in. For pitchers, basically 2.3 x their numbers (Pelfrey obviously won't keep it up), since we've played around 70-162. Not an exact science, but a nice instant snapshot. So no, I wasn't incorporating likely/possible improvement into the numbers of Cabrera and Anderson. Thought Leury would be lower, Davidson higher, Kahnle continues to be the most interesting decision on the roster after Q. Probably safer to use their current fWAR plus their projections for the remainder of the season. Cabrera is a -0.3-0 fWAR player that way, while Avi is probably a 3.1-3.3 player. No one in the past 10 years has run a BABIP over .400 for an entire season. There were a few - Chris Johnson, Austin Jackson, and Josh Hamilton, and maybe a couple others I'm missing - that ran it in the .390s, but usually players top out around .380-.390. Avi is still at .417.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) The Cubs and Astros had everything that could go wrong go right. Everything. I am kind of upset the statniks are out there supporting the alleged snails pace rebuild. Their enjoyment of the so called rebuild takes our miserable front office (KW) off the hook for being unable to put together a division title contending team despite the presence of a handful of incredibly good players on the roster year after year. They wasted my time and yours with Robin at the helm for gawd sakes. TOTAL WASTE OF YEARS. We've had great closers. We've had Sale. We've had Abreu. We've had a decent to good nucleus that with the proper tinkering could have given us nirvana baseball the past 10 years. But nooooo. Oh well I can dream of Ozzie and the 05 team as I wait on this rebuild. p.s. Fulmer and Rodon better be great or the alleged rebuild takes a hit early on. If the proper tinkering would have done differently, please tell me what you would have done otherwise. Also, Rodon and Fulmer were taken well before the Sox decided to rebuild. The success of Moncada, Kopech, Giolito, and Lopez will have the biggest takes on the rebuild.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 07:59 PM) Are you sure? What I see is no power and no speed He was a good prospect, yes, I am sure.
-
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) I mean, sure, if they would do a Schwarber for Fulmer swap or something to that effect I'd take it. But no way I'm giving up a Q or even Robertson unless I'm getting more back. Theo has absolutely no leverage in that trade scenario. That's actually kind of a good idea.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Badler said that similar to Tatis Jr the Sox were higher on Josue than all others so hopefully we are right again. So you're saying the Sox are going to trade for James Shields

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) Grant Green was pretty highly thought of way back when (I'm going purely off memory...haven't google searched), but wasn't he a highly touted SS out of USC? First round pick by the A's, hit pretty well all throughout the minors. BA #52 in 2010, #63 in 2011. He was definitely a good prospect. Prospects bust.

Clean shot
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) And the Cubs, technically... Yeah, but I didn't consider that because it's 2 series back to back in Chicago, so essentially just a 4 game home and away.

Kenley Jansen has a K/BB that is undefined.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Yep, and this is why, when people start talking about holding Kahnle until next year if we don't get x top-whatever prospects, we must remember that the proper time to sell relievers is when they are demanded. I feel comfortable that Kahnle is good. I do not feel comfortable that Kahnle is THIS good.

Is this off-season the time to add a cheap 1b?
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) Okay, every single time Abreu makes a mental or physical error, the reply will be "SoxTalk says it doesn't matter." Trademark pending. Also, that it's okay to poke fun at posters by insinuating they are mentally-challenged or have mental retardation...for those who aren't familiar with I Am Sam. So when we say, don't go Full Greg775, it's perfectly in keeping with the no personal attacks pledge at SoxTalk. Also, saying perhaps it's better to go half-Greg775 so you can garner votes from the Academy. Glad that's all cleared up for future reference. You have a history of going off topic, and this topic bounced from one thing to another so fast that I couldn't keep any sense of it. That's all people are insinuating. -

Seriously, this thread needs some ritalin. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 21, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) Sandoval just hit the DL with an "inner ear infection" there is always some wiggle room with the DL. Ehh, there's enough side effects of an inner ear infection that it could throw you off. It's possible they're doing it just as a way of getting him off the roster, but you can't necessarily say it is.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 20, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) This would be a bargaining point between the union and the league. If there was an increase in travel due to the elimination of the the division, the DH would be a bargaining point. i don't ever see the league eliminating the divisions just for this reason. The travel would drive the players and the union nuts. There are enough complaints now. At least they eliminated the goofy two day series. working in the MLB was a blast except for the travel. that's the part that makes baseball such a physically and mentally draining sport. The two day series hasn't been completely eliminated, as the Sox have 2 of them this year, both against the Dodgers, but I hadn't realized how far they'd cut back on that. That is awesome. Two day series suck, especially when the second game gets rained out.

Also, avocados and fresh guac are awesome. Guac from a pre-packaged bag is disgusting.
