  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Colby Rasmus stepping away from baseball for the rest of the season. Melky Cabrera, come on down! That one would make a lot of sense.
  2. QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) Watch...Darvish to Milwaukee...LOL Unless they get him fairly cheap, I don't see it. The Brewers aren't far enough along to buy big on a half-season investment. Sonny Gray still makes some sense for them, but Darvish is gone after this year and if the Brewers come down to earth a bit and the Cubs start playing well, they're hoping and praying for a shot at a play-in game. That's not worth losing a prospect. The Royals would make sense for Darvish though. They are probably going to have one last hurrah before they are forced to rebuild, regardless of their willingness.
  3. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Happy trails. Sox fans never appreciated you--I could count on two hands the Quintana shirseys and jerseys I saw at the park over the years, including my own. I think Sox fans appreciated him. If he pitches at at Guaranteed Rate in his start against the Sox, you'll hear it.
  4. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) Does he? Sox haven't made the playoffs since 2008, and had to deal away a once in a generation pitcher because the front office couldn't put a winning product in the field. Spare me how great our GM(s) are. They've been abysmal. Well, when your boss and your boss's boss insist that you go for it, when you yourself are intent on rebuilding instead of putting off the inevitable, can you really fault Hahn for that? It was said that Hahn wanted to make a significant sell-off at the deadline in 2015, when the Sox could have actually kept guys like Eaton and Sale and been positioned to make a run heading into next year, but Williams asked him not to. Frankly, the fact that Hahn put a team together the past couple of seasons that had us squinting and seeing a team that could win a lot of games had many of us excited, given what he had to work with in the minors. Rick Hahn knows what he's doing and is a very good GM. He is probably second to none when it comes to overall negotiation.
  5. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) Hi guys, random question, don't follow too much baseball currently: Is there a chance that the White Sox trade Abreu? I'd imagine he'd net a nice prospect from a team needing some hitting power at the deadline. I'd love to see him go. Very doubtful. He is a 1-3 WAR 1B whose inherent value to the White Sox is probably that of a 4-5 WAR player due to his leadership skills. I very much doubt he is going anywhere.
  6. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:42 PM) Not that it really matters, but Flete is putting up decent numbers at A+ this year. He's old for the level, but should we really dismiss him so quickly? He's not doing anything that special as a 24 year old in A+. Like, I think you can say there's a 5-10% chance that Rose starts making enough meaningful contact to turn into a starting level player. Flete is going to have to move and move in a hurry for me to consider him anything more than a utility player. Guessing he will start right away in Birmingham.
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) @BNightengale 52s When the #Cubs tried to get Chris Sale from the #WhiteSox this winter, Theo Epstein was told it would have to be a package with Kris Bryant. LOL, no Rick Hahn. I mean, kudos for trying, but nooooo.
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) Eh.. I consider lotto tickets the variety of lower lewel spects who are younger, maybe struggled or struggling but has potential upside. These guys are more likely filler, although Rose as I've said earlier could be a diamond in the rough. Rose I consider a lotto ticket. A guy with that kind of power is definitely trying to turn nothing into something. Flete is filler.
  9. What they're also doing is positioning themselves to have players, in a best case scenario, to fill every spot on the diamond. The odds of a best case scenario are slim to none. They'll have an idea after 2018 where they can splurge in free agency. Jon Lester signed with the Cubs after a season in which they went 73-89. I think the Sox will be active in free agency following next season, so long as the right pieces are on the market.
  10. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) Can you believe that we turned a minor league free agent, a number 13 overall draft pick many thought had a ceiling of high leverage reliver, and a 30th round 2006 draft pick into all of that? Holy rebuild batman. I can't wait to see what other trades come... what we end up with out of the 2018 draft... what we end up with out of the 2019 draft... and what we end up out of the 2019 FA class. 2020, holy s*** - here we come! Also Joe Borchard, the highest signing bonus of all time (at the time). Because he was traded for Matt Thornton, who was traded for Brandon Jacobs, who was included in the Eaton deal.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) KLaw said in chat it's likely Braves 1, Sox 2 As of today, I would agree. As of August 1st, I doubt that is the case.
  12. Quintana was the perfect replacement for Mark Buehrle. Now we need another "soft" tossing lefty to rise from the ashes and make us forget about Q. Best wishes buddy, go win a World Series.
  13. The only teams that the Sox could have considered asking above Quintana's price point are Cleveland, Detroit, Kansas City, and Minnesota simply because they may be facing him more regularly over a minimum of the next 4 years, and perhaps longer than that. As is, they'll face Quintana MAYBE once a year.
  14. Could not be happier with this move. Considering what I was expecting, this is a great return.
  15. Would be very unfortunate for the Burdi family if they both suffered significant injuries in the same season.
  16. QUOTE (Enscheff @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) Braves fan here checking in to see perspectives from the other side of this madness. Knowledgeable Braves fans over at ChopCountry.com seem to realize Q's surplus value is in the $70M+ range, plus whatever contender's premium the acquiring team is willing to pay. Based on the consensus mid-season rankings and this surplus valuation of top prospects:http://www.thepointofpittsburgh.com/mlb-pr...pdated-edition/ I would currently value the Braves top handful of guys as: Acuna - $70M Albies - $55M Allard/Soroka/Newk/Wright - $35M Maitan - $25M Anderson - $20M Gohara - $15M Pache - $15M Nobody with half a clue wants to see the Braves give up any of the top position prospects (excepting Pache), and I personally think the Braves value Wright above all the other pitchers. That leaves a package centered around Allard and/or Soroka. Each of them only represents about half of Q's surplus value, so there would have to be (several) significant pieces added. The biggest issue most knowledgeable Braves fans have with a possible Q acquisition is the timing. We all saw how dumb it was for Coppy to hold onto Teheran through the rebuild while his most valuable years were wasted on a losing team, and we don't want to see the Braves pay a premium for Q now in a non-competitive season. Losing teams simply should not be making "win now" moves. If the Braves are going to cash in prospect chips for a SP, I would prefer to see them wait until next trade deadline (if they are competitive), and go for Archer or whichever other TOR is available. If I were a Sox fan, I would NOT be happy with a Q return that consists of mainly pitching, but that's likely what you will see form the Braves. Personally, I think Hahn is using the Braves as leverage to get the Yanks or Astros to cough up an elite position prospect. Welcome aboard. This is very good information. Please keep posting.
  17. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Just a thought. It looks like the Sox have not announced their rotation for the weekend. I wonder how Hahn feels about sending Q out again for another start vs the Mariners. He could add to his value, lower it, or worst case get hurt. The game is at the Cell so that helps. But I think the pressure will switch from the trade partners to Hahn if he doesn't pull the trigger today. If he thinks the offers are not what he wants then he has to wait and keep pitching him until someone gets desperate or until the offseason. They did announce it. Shields on Friday, Holland on Saturday, Quintana on Sunday.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) It's hard to believe this rebuild started with such a bang, and 7 months later we are still awaiting the next trade. Although I think he can be a very useful player, I don't think he is an .800 OPS guy, and I doubt anyone else does either, but the stock will never be higher with Leury Garcia if he can get back soon. No use waiting for a future bench player on the team when it is good again to get more expensive. That's another guy I would be looking to move. Might not be a terrible idea, but at the same time, he's only 26 and plays a pretty good CF. If he's a .725 OPS player or the whereabouts, he's probably a 2-3 WAR player, which isn't nothing. As weird as it sounds, I think that's a guy for whom you have to get really good value, like an overpayment. I was going to compare it to Eduardo Nunez last year, but you need more than that.
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxwinner @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Kahnle too. And I get that we need to sell sell sell...but if teams don't match the price on these guys then only a few of them might move this deadline. I would say trade Frazier for whatever you can get since he's a free agent after this season. Same with melky. Kahnle isn't a must go, but it would be ideal. He's got youth and team control on his side, but generally, you want to trade all the relievers you can.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) I have been a big a fan of the Feathered Serpent as there is, but I'm ready for this to happen. I hope he makes none of those starts. I am in 100% agreement with this entire post. Love Q and the professional that he's been during his time in Chicago, but I'm ready for him to move so we can start to see a lot more of the kids. After Q, I would say that Robertson, Swarzak, Holland, Gonzalez, Frazier, and Cabrera all have to be dealt too at a minimum. Still think Robertson ends up in Washington.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) He's pitching on seven days rest now. I think a potentially rusty start is a far bigger risk than him pitching a day or two before the deadline. And if he was scheduled to start on the 26th, it wouldn't take much to just push his next scheduled start beyond that to the 1st. There is risk for a rusty start, but it's also a getaway day for the Mariners, so maybe they put out a weaker lineup. They could potentially have him start on the 22nd, but I'd just assume push that to the 23rd so as to avoid the Cubs entirely. They may not be what they were last year, but that's still a good offensive ball club. He's still set to face the Indians on the 28th then, who are also a good offensive team, so maybe I'm just speculating to speculate here.
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 12:27 AM) If he doesn't work at a gay bar then he doesn't have credibility. Dude, your shtick is old. Either contribute or get lost.
  23. QUOTE (peanut33tillman @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 12:23 AM) Ray as a headliner in a deal would make me vomit. Outside of big 3 I do think there's depth in farm (obviously primarily pitching). However whichever route they go team wise I hope they land that "star" prospect albeit Brinson, Acuna, Albeis, Frazier, Rogers etc. Pitching "depth" as in they have guys who are likely to pitch in the big leagues, I agree. Lopez seems like a major leaguer one way or another, but it may be as a high leverage reliever as opposed to a back end starter. Giolito has a lot of work to do, and still reminds me so much of Gavin Floyd (who I actually really bought into as a prospect). Dunning hasn't shown enough to shed the label of a mid to back end starter. There is no top end starter in this system other than Kopech and maybe Hansen. You can never have enough pitching. Frankly, I'd rather go the depth route and trade a guy like Swarzak, Kahnle, Holland, or Gonzalez for some talented arms out of options. Remember, that's how the Cubs got both Strop and Arrietta.
  24. QUOTE (peanut33tillman @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 11:58 PM) This would be underwhelming without Brinson as the headliner, especially if they had to throw in Swarzak. I think a deal with the Brewers will land them Brinson. As great as Swarzak has been this year, he's a 31 year old journeyman pitcher who has had one good half of pitching. If his inclusion nets you 4 solid 50+ prospects, you take it. The White Sox have top end talent in Moncada, Kopech, and Robert. Who is the #4 prospect in the system right now? Hansen? He's still in high-A and has struggled through 3 starts. The Sox need depth. That offer would provide EXACTLY that. And, according to the recent narrative that we'd be disappointed in a Quintana trade, that would be relatively disappointing, yet still gratifying. If they ended up with Brinson, I wouldn't be upset, and in fact would be quite happy, but the Sox outfield depth, though years away, is actually starting to show some players that may make it in the majors. Maybe the Sox include Melky, or maybe they get pieces other places, or maybe they deal Quintana to Milwaukee for Brinson and Diaz. Regardless, I don't think we're looking at Ray nor Gatewood, unless Gatewood is somehow a final piece.
  25. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 08:26 PM) Don't let them change you or scare you, Greg. If you have an opinion, opine. No one has ever said that. But the thought that all opinions are good is flat out false, and if bad opinions are documented, plan on bad opinions being torn to shreds.
