  1. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 03:14 AM) I am one of those fans that are pushing for a rebuild of the organization, but I am all for the White Sox signing Johnson to a one year deal, only because if he performs well Rick Hahn can deal him to a contending team at the deadline and get some good prospects in return. My only reservation is that the Sox would loose a draft for signing him, and to me he is not worth it. If the Blue Jays are willing to make a qualifying offer of $14 million to him, then there is no way he's pitching anywhere next year except Toronto. Otherwise, there is no draft pick compensation necessary.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 04:07 PM) If we aren't making fun of each other, what will we post about? Politics and s***
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) That is your first mistake. Say whatever comes to mind and check facts later. Don't check facts. Present the information in a convincing fashion and make s*** up as you go.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) wite is a pro at that. I wish I had been paying attention, I totally would have said that I'm really good at doing this at the exact same time you were posting.
  5. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) L. Garcia can play everything but catcher. Plus Jordan Danks. Need room for Gillaspie and Keppinger too
  6. I'd like to see an upgrade at 3B, but that's a perfectly acceptable and adequate lineup. I'd be just fine with it knowing full well that they'll be rebuilding. I have a feeling we are going to see more wholesale changes though and that the lineup will look drastically different.
  7. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 02:10 PM) Right, but really he looked more like 2012 in the second half, which is better results with the same plan. I think the problem is that his guess approach is simply not something we can trust for predictable success. If balls are falling into his bat, he's going to be good, but more often than not, that isn't going to be the case. I can honestly say I didn't watch much, so I have no idea what he looked like. When he came off the DL in May, he looked just awesome at the plate, and in a matter of about a week, he was swinging at everything again. Hopefully a new hitting coach as well as having Abreu here can help improve him.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) What gets ME about Viciedo is his career 98 wRC+ and below average defense, lol. What is there to defend about him? He's been pretty consistently bad. You can say he hit 25 homers in a season, but that's where literally everything positive ends. He's clearly got talent, but an entire season of no progress/arguably backward progress in 2013 does NOT bode well for him reaching his upside. He looks like he just isn't capable of recognizing pitches well enough. He did look better in the 2nd half.
  9. Dave Cameron's take: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/betting-big...-abreu-quandry/ I think he's overreacting here, but he raises a valid point.
  10. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) "...He's no Maurice Gartrell..." Caulfield12 Oh god
  11. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:32 PM) Beckham doesn't have the tools Viciedo does and Viciedo has been better. Viciedo has been a disappointment, but nowhere near a bust. If Viciedo was projected to be a superstar, he would have signed for a hell of a lot more. Nevermind that Viciedo has never shown the level of sustained success that Beckham did his rookie year.
  12. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) The White Sox have never hit the jackpot in free agency. Ever. Why is this any different? If this (Abreu) guy were as good as people say, wouldn't the Yankees, or Giants, or Rangers, or Cubs been all over him and they would have definitely been willing to outbid the White Sox. Paying him twice as much as Puig.....I'm skeptical. Not trying to be a buzzkill, but there needs to be a separate discussion here of just how unproven this guy is. The White Sox have never been the smartest free agent seekers....If something is too good to be true...it is. I guarantee this guy isn't an all star. The Giants and Rangers were interested in him. Did you follow it at all? The Red Sox, Astros, and Marlins were also interested, and there were likely others we didn't hear about that showed significant interest too, some of them with $60+ million bids. I think you are freaking out because you believe that Murphy's Law always hits the White Sox. Maybe you should settle down and realize that the Sox got a guy that has MVP type upside.
  13. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) If Viciedo was a high draft pick that received a $10M bonus, would he be a bust already? You mean like Beckham after his 3rd season? Most believed he was a bust at that point, but you still give them time to improve.
  14. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 12:07 PM) I just can't believe people call a guy that hit 25 home runs as a 23 year old rookie a bust. He struggled last year. A sophomore campaign in which he only had 470 PA's due to injuries. He has career splits of .264/.306/.432/.738 and was expected to perform better than that. Wily Mo Pena put up .259/.316/.527/.843 one year too. He busted in a big way. Typically, guys with little plate discipline who strike out and don't play good defense aren't long for the league. And I'm not saying he can't improve or shed that bust label. He certainly can.

  16. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) Viciedo is a bust? As of this moment, absolutely
  17. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 11:34 AM) Which Cuban players have really struggled though? The ones I can think of have been very good to league average. Are there some busts I'm missing? Viciedo is the first one. Concepcion has been terrible too
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) Keith Law's Insider reaction piece essentially says that this is a weird move for the White Sox because it's risky and that Abreu has a good chance of declining rapidly by the time the Sox are contending in a few years. Yeah that's stupid
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 10:18 AM) Is it possible to give a nickname not related to military? Yes. Gallo Semental
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) The burger tasted slightly different in Beijing. I can't describe exactly how but it was noticeable that the flavoring was slightly different. I didn't have any in Beijing, but I did hit it up in Xi'an and I think Shanghai too. I didn't notice a huge difference but yes, the menu is incredibly different. Even as dated as this photo is, there is still a lot of similarities between when I was there We also ate at KFC 2-3 times too. That one is quite a bit different as well

  22. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 09:01 AM) something like 60% of McDonald's revenue comes from outside the U.S. Wonder how much of that is still Americans
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 07:29 AM) More related to the OP: The Great American Menu, the signature foods of all 50 states. http://deadspin.com/the-great-american-men...d-an-1349137024 edit: Chicago Deep Dish clocks in at #1 Why he went with New York pizza over buffalo wings kind of blows my mind
  24. QUOTE (MEANS @ Oct 18, 2013 -> 07:51 AM) I've listen a couple times to the new PJ, it's a solid album overall, I think it loses some steam towards the end, with a different track order maybe this could have been avoided. I don't think I've ever disliked one of their closing songs, and this is no different. It's different hearing piano in a Pearl Jam song, but I absolutely love Future Days. I do agree though. It was a little slower than I anticipated. Mind Your Manners kicks you in the teeth, and I was expecting more songs similar to that, but it's really the only one that does. Still, it's already one of my favorite PJ songs of all time.
  25. I want to expand on that. John Lannan is really, really, really bad.
