  1. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 03:07 PM) IMO Rios will be the first to be traded. If Hahn is smart (so far he has proven otherwise), he will hold on to Crain and let teams outbid each other for his services. If Rios is traded, I'd be surprised if he went anytime before July 28th. There will some leveraging of Crain, but with his injury history, it's best to take a quick, strong offer for him than to wait out. Thornton and Lindstrom will probably be gone at the first talk of real prospects (meaning like top 20 in whatever system we're dealing with).
  2. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) Then why the f*** did YOU VOTE NO JUST TO SPITE ME!?!?!? You're a mod, I expect better of you! Please go back and change your vote to YES as I had specifically requested (the poll is in another thread). I never once said we should heavily shop Reed' for scraps. You admitted Castellanos was a fair, high value return. That's specifically the question I asked. And yes I have been setting you up for this the whole time. I can't change it, but I will see what I can do.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) His ability to shoot is an asset when not abused. And unlike Boozer, he has post moves. His length next to Noah would be sick. The entire goal in the NBA right now is to beat the Heat. The Spurs and Pacers showed how you do that - a well balanced attack with lane defense, the ability to get out and cover perimeter shooters, and forcing LeBron to play the mid-range game. The problem is that neither were able to finish the goal. You can also attack them defensively with an attacking point guard, perimeter shooters, and a good post game. If the Bulls bring back Belinelli and can bring in one more shooter, they would ideally have all 3 of those with Aldridge. As is, they might have 1 in Rose because Boozer is overmatched against the Heat. Being real here, you aren't going to "shut" Miami down offensively, and it's still going to be difficult to beat their defense. Aldridge gives you some ability to space while allowing you to better clog the lane.
  4. Yeah no argument. I really like Reed as a White Sox fan, but I have no problem with that whatsoever. If the Nats offered Rendon for Reed (hypothetically, obviously, their bullpen is fine), then yeah, I'd have no problem with such a deal whatsoever.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) I'd put Throne on the opposite list. He was unheard of (except for the cool name) until the last month or two, when we started getting a read on his arm. He's got a special one, so he's worth keeping an eye on. Certainly not on the way down. And Brennan has been getting better, but he's not really ascending all that fast just yet. And he's raw. Jeremy Dowdy? Jeremy Dowdy was an undrafted free agent who has 80 career plate appearances. I think these guys look at numbers and decide whether they're up or down and don't take anything into context
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) If some of the tweets are true its going to be Murder 1 as it was all premeditated. So hes in for the long ride. Well, at least he won't have to worry about the death penalty if he is guilty. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) WITH BILL WIRTZ This was totally my first thought too
  7. I honestly think Castellanos is perfect value for Reed, though in a vacuum I would try to acquire another low level prospect as well. The problem is that I don't think the Tigers need a young, stud closer in Reed so badly that they feel the need to trade away their best prospect and arguably a top 20 prospect in the game to a rival. I mean, this seems like you are going to an extreme in petitioning and debating the merits of this deal when, really, there's probably a 1 in 1,000,000 chance this deal comes to fruition.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) Morel is going to go 1 for 11 with an accidental poke single to right You watch your mouth.
  9. Morel is going to go 9 for 11 wtih 5 blasts
  10. http://deadspin.com/aaron-hernandez-charge...urder-588065097 I'm sure there will be all kinds of goodies that come out shortly.
  11. And this is all still assuming the Tigers would want to trade Castellanos or (ugh) Garcia to the Sox to begin with. They may very well not feel apt to do such a thing and get their asses kicked by said player for the next 6 years.
  12. The Jackson/Teahen/Stewart/Frasor whatever deal had much more to do with getting out of Teahen's contract than anything else. The fact that Stewart was a live, decent arm was an added bonus.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) So Bergeron is back in the hospital with a hole in his lung. They aren't sure if it was caused by a broken rib or by a pain-killing needle. Yowza. What in the f***
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) It's kind of hard to trust WAR as a stat, when different people calculate it differently. It's not an end all, be all, but it at least gives some foundation for comparing pitchers to hitters and relievers to starters. You just have to use discretion when using it.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) One thing's for sure, please don't trade for any more Blue Jays minor league pitchers at the AA/AAA level. Really? Because of Nestor Molina? One guy busts or starts pitching poorly, and suddenly you shouldn't trade for anyone from there ever again? Because Myles Jaye and Daniel Webb have sure pitched well up to this point.
  16. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) Baseball Reference has Marcum with a -1.0 WAR this season. B-R's WAR (bWAR) is calculated differently than fWAR and is considered by most to be inferior or more flawed. Both have their shortcomings, and neither are wrong, and Marcum has been a worse pitcher than Peavy this year, but I personally believe fWAR shows a better portrayal of the type of pitcher Marcum has been this year as opposed to bWAR. There really is no reason that Marcum should have a 5.76 ERA other than dumb luck, because he has absolutely pitched better than that number. If interested or bored, these will help http://www.fangraphs.com/library/war/differences-fwar-rwar/ http://www.fangraphs.com/library/war/calcu...g-war-pitchers/
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) That is my opinion. I do not really care, If you agree or not. PK over the last year has been terrible. And I do not care if you agree with facts or not, he's destroyed left handed pitching. "Is grass green?" "NO IT IS RED" "Um, are you really sure about that? It looks pretty green to me."
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) Nobody wants PK at this stage except for a bag of balls and the Sox to pay most If not all of his salary. No, especially teams that struggle against LHP. Because his .286/.385/.518/.902 splits this year (in about 65 PAs) and his career .298/.376/.538/.914 splits (in about 2300 PAs) don't indicate in the least that he can hit left handed pitching. Seriously, this spouting off non-sensical one-liners without taking things into consideration gets old. Konerko is plenty valuable as a player, he's just really not a viable full-time player anymore.
  19. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) Me. And he's clearly a finished product, isn't he wite? If our scouts like him then you do the deal if it is out there. I can't stand Avisail Garcia. He is a slap hitting, non-disciplined, not-as-athletically gifted as many believe prospect. He doesn't take walks, he strikes out at a decent clip, doesn't hit for a lot of power, and doesn't run a whole lot. He's probably, in a very good year, a 3.5-4.0 player, and normally a 2.0 player. I don't trade my player (regardless of his position or title), who is already a 2.0 WAR type player and under team control for 4 more years, straight up for someone like that. I have no problem with him as the centerpiece of a deal, but you need more for him. I may overvalue Addison Reed, but you are quite evidently undervaluing him and what a good reliever can actually bring to a bullpen and a team, and you are doing so by a lot.
  20. Probably the last time he's going to be released for a while
  21. 5 career starts vs the White Sox. 3-0, 2.48 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 32.2 IP On top of that, he doesn't deserve a 5.76 ERA nor an 0-9 record with the way he's pitched. Looks a lot like loads of lousy luck. edited to add alliteration
  22. There's no question Konerko could be a great fit for a lot of teams, ala Eric Karros at the end of his career. The question that remains is whether he wants to stick around in Chicago for the remainder of this contract or if he wants to go play for a contender. For all we know, he may just want to retire after this season and finish it out with the Sox. The decision is literally up to Konerko. I don't think the Yankees will be where he ends up though. I think if he decides he wants to go, he will want to go out west, considering he has a 16,000 square foot home in Glendale.
  23. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) Agreed I think that's a better word anyways, because I do agree that stuff should indicate velocity/break/movement.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 10:27 AM) Your sarcasm detector has really been failing you lately. Why I oughta
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) ProFootballTalk ‏@ProFootballTalk Source with direct knowledge of Hernandez situation tells us: "Assume the worst." Rae Carruth lines were starting to get old anyways. If true, this sucks in the sense that the NFL loses a truly unique talent. Gronkowski was and still can be a monster of a tight end, but I always feared Hernandez more because of the speed/size combo. But really, if he isn't going to cooperate, and they believe him to be a suspect and someone who may flee (because, prior to his arrest, he had about $41 million reasons to remain in the area), how long can they legally hold him under arrest?
