  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 6, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) Yeah but they're getting it done on a daily basis so far. Not too many people were overly impressed with the rotation of Buehrle, Garland, Conteras, and Garcia heading into the 2005 season. Contreras had an ERA of somewhere around 2 in his final 8 starts in the regular season (all of which he had won). Teams had virtually no shot against him. Buehrle had solid velocity and has always been a fantastic pitcher, regardless of his "stuff." Freddy Garcia's stuff looked good and he was coming off a very solid season. Jon Garland was coming off the best season of his career with an ERA around 3.50, and he was the #4 starter. People that weren't overly impressed with the White Sox pitching staff heading into the postseason were generally talking out of their ass.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) See my post right above this. I will also say that anyone that didn't live in Chicago at that time wouldn't grasp the horrible situation that it was. For example, the night of Game 6, I was in a Master's class taking a 3 hour exam. My prof was a Cubs fan, and put the gametracker up during the test. Nothing like having kids in the class starting cheering for every Marlins out, etc. when you're trying to focus. That's f***ing stupid. As a professor, you have to be a bit more professional than that during a test.
  3. Beyond that, Vizquel is still good with the glove and was brought in to be somewhat of a mentor to Ramirez and Beckham.
  4. What did Don Cooper have to do with Bobby Jenks? He may have taught him how to throw the cutter, which Jenks has used less than 1% of the time throughout his career, but Jenks was claimed off waivers from the Angels and was converted to a reliever by White Sox brass, and that has been where he's found his success. You really can't credit Cooper with Jenks' success.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 5, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) But we have to jump 4 teams. And have 5 months to do so. I mean, I'm not excited about how this current team is structured, but there's still a lot of time.
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 5, 2010 -> 01:47 AM) I wanna ask qwerty or kalapse (or whomever) this. Say we keep Konerko for the season, what numbers would he have to put up to be a Type A or Type B or what numbers would he have to put up to not qualify for it? (assuming barring a melt down he's got it) Only reason I ask this, is I don't think the return for him (if he's traded, and hypothetically speaking, he would be agreeing on the deal cause of the 10/5 rights) would be as good at all, and I personally don't think it's very smart to resign a soon to be 35 year old 1B to an extension but thats just me. For Konerko to qualify as a Type A free agent this year, he'd have to have, by far, the best year of his career, so sticking around that 1.100 OPS he's currently sporting would be a good thing. Adam LaRoche (.842 OPS in his 2 season before free agency) and Nick Johnson (put up an .887 OPS in last 2+ seasons prior to this free agency which actually dates back to 2006) qualified as Type B free agents this past offseason though, so I imagine if Konerko can atleast put up an .850ish OPS this year, he should qualify, not that the Sox should offer him arbitration in the first place.
  7. When your team sucks, you're not going to win a lot of games.
  8. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 4, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) Kila Kila Kila Ka'aihue!! He's being recalled and I really doubt the Royals have any intention of moving him.
  9. QUOTE (daggins @ May 4, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) I doubt he'd even put up a line that good, but beyond that he's a corner outfielder, he's 26, and he has almost a 5-1 k/BB ratio in AAA. Not as of this moment, he'd be terrible right now. It's 5:1 this year and about a 4.5:1 ratio over 250 PAs in overall AAA, but he might be a bit more disciplined than that and getting a feel for the league, because he's shown decent walk totals before. I guess I'm just intrigued by him more than anything. He's a guy that is never mentioned because he's not a high upside guy, but he seems like he can be a lefty masher at the very least and if he can do anything at all against righties he might be a league average starter.
  10. I like how the dude in the comments section thinks that this is the precursor to a Gonzalez or Fielder trade and that Coats is coming in to replace Quentin.
  11. Maybe I'm wrong in thinking this, but Stefan Gartrell seems like he could be a league average starting player in the majors at some point...something like .270/.330/.445/.775, maybe even a bit better.
  12. Game 1 in Charlotte, Knights lose 8-3 Danks 0-4, 3 K Flowers 1-4, 3 K Viciedo 2-4, 1 K Gartrell 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB Game 2, Charlotte loses 3-1 Danks 1-3 not much else to be excited about
  13. Me: I just think he's cute, I didn't say I wanted to have sex with him Chris Hansen: "witelovetonite69: hey cutie, wanna me to come over and have sex?" This is your name, is it not?
  14. I remember thinking that the Cubs were getting their momentum back in that series too when, after they went down 3-0, came back with 5 unanswered and went up 5-3. That didn't happen. I'm sure it was Bartman's fault that the Marlins won that game too.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 4, 2010 -> 02:31 PM) what a f***ing pedophile
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) At least there's been no hip issues. If this is his last season here, and I think it will be, I hope he goes out with a great season. I'll always remember his GS in Game 2 of the WS. Best sports moment of my life. Aside from winning the World Series, that and Podsednik's homer are 1a and 1b. Blum's homer didn't actually win it within the moment, and I was on such a roller coaster of emotion (especially after Konerko had just GIDP'd) that I couldn't appreciate Blum's homer to the fullest.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ May 4, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) what a f***ing cutie
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:43 AM) Ubaldo Jimenez is this year's Zack Greinke. And unlike ZG, he's actually on a good team. I think he's going to set the all-time record for single season ERA. Not sure if I'm joking or not.
  19. BABY, BABY, BABY OHHHH BABY, BABY, BABY NOOOOO
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:48 AM) Pitch f/x had him topping out at 94.8 MPH with an average fastball around 93. Lower than 95-96, but that velocity is absolutely fine. Hopefully he can keep bringing it in that range.
  21. I haven't played poker at all this year. I need to play again sometime soon. I just generally hate getting back into it against players who play like all the time, because I feel like such a f***ing donkey at the table.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ May 3, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) Why can't Darren Sharper get a deal? I keep thinking he is done yet he still is productive. It's kind of funny you wrote this today as roughly 4 hours before you posted this, Rotoworld reported that he resigned with the Saints. He also apparently had microfracture surgery in the offseason.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) Great Firewall made me laugh... I thought Fecebook was better
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 3, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) I'd be shopping the hell out of Greinke right now too. His value will never be higher. And by the time they are any good to where he can actually make a difference for them, he will be walking via FA. Well, that is if the Royals are ever good again. Off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure they have the longest current playoff drought in the league (a cool 24 years, including 2010) and they have the second longest active stretch of not winning the division (only Milwaukee's is longer at 28 years if they don't win it this year, and they atleast made the playoffs two years ago).
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) What NL teams would actually put him in LF, with the renewed MLB focus on versatile, cheaper players who can defend, run and hit? I think there might be 3-4 AL teams, but it's not a risk without careful consideration being undertaken. You really think KW would take Dunn...when we could have had a much cheaper version in Jim Thome? You don't have to put Dunn in LF when you can simply hide his defensive deficiencies at 1B.
