  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Well, if Jose Contreras as his ancient age can be dominant in the NL, it's always possible for Jenks too. Contreras has been a starting pitcher for like 6 years now, and it's not entirely uncommon to see pitchers go from being effective starting pitchers to being effective relievers, especially when they have the stuff Contreras does (averaging almost 95 MPH with his fastball, almost 89 with his slider, and 81.5 with his split-finger). Jenks hasn't been throwing neither his fastball (66.5% compared to 70.3% in his career) or curveball (5.7% to 12.5%) nearly as much this season. He's been throwing his slider (18.5% to 14.6%) and changeup (9.3% to 1.4%) much more, and FanGraphs has on record that he hasn't thrown a cutter yet. His fastball velocity is down from last year and his changeup velocity is up. There seems to flat out be a lot wrong with what Jenks is throwing right now and it seems as though he's trying to become too much pitcher and not enough thrower. I'd say drop the changeup and start throwing the curve more, to start with.
  2. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 10, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) In NL Jenks would be elite. It's not like the NL is filled with amateur hitters and Jenks would get his s*** lit up over there too. When you throw fastballs down the middle of the plate, major league hitters are going to hit them hard.
  3. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 10, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) I'm not sure I would feel a lot better if the Sox took two in Minnesota. They'll still have so much ground to make up. I think the only thing that saves this team is if they rip off something insane like 10 in a row, and Minnesota plays .500 during that stretch. Then they'll at least be back in the conversation. Otherwise... BLOW IT UP!!! Well this isn't overreacting much at all. The ONLY thing that saves this team with 130 games left is if they win their next 10 in a row so that they need to win fewer games in the next 120! Everyone knows that it's really those first 42 games that mean the absolute most! What the White Sox need to do is to start winning baseball games. I'm not a huge fan of the way this team is constructed, but there is still a shot for something decent. If they start playing better, then maybe Williams goes out and gets a bat.
  4. Khalil Greene really fell off the tracks with an anxiety disorder, and Dontrelle Willis was suffering from anxiety disorders as well.
  5. Fangraphs for the mothertruckin win http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/perfection-2/
  6. QUOTE (T R U @ May 9, 2010 -> 11:09 PM) Its not also his fault, its ALL his fault He does not, in any way at all, have to take orders from Ozzie.. Period.. Ozzie can suggest and ask for anything he wants.. if Kenny listens to him and does it and it fails well, sorry KW but maybe you should have done things your way instead.. Just because server tells a cook to put ketchup in Alfredo sauce doesn't mean the cook should do it. I agree, Williams is completely at fault for this roster, and he knew better too.
  7. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 9, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) Morel by a lot. He is above average at 3rd while Gilmore is probably not going to stick at the position. Plus Morel has shown more power. If Gilmore can improve his defense to stay at 3rd and develop some power it might be close. Neither are out of the question, but I didn't hesitate to take Morel. Absolutely. Morel could probably develop into a league average 3Bman at some point in time, whereas Gilmore is completely boom or bust when it comes to his all around game at 3B.
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ May 9, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) Buddy Bell was on the Score this morning. He was saying Danks is trying to do some things with his swing to shorten up. So hopefully that will pay dividends in the next few months. Hopefully a September call up, and he's in the lineup in 2011. For who? The outfield looks full unless Pierre or Quentin is traded, or they move Quentin to DH to stop this rotating DH nonsense.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ May 9, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) What player would you promote? There's really no young guy in AAA hitting-wise that they'd want to bring up before their arb clock time in June just to sit them on the bench; and if you bring up a journeyman, you can lose him to waivers or release. Retherford. Lillibridge. Robert Hudson. It doesn't really matter whether or not a journeyman is claimed on waivers or released (whichever journeyman would be called up signed their contract fully knowing they were going to be playing in the minor leagues), and both Lillibridge and Retherford have options left. Personally, I'd probably go with Retherford just because he has shown some pop in the minors before. He's not hitting well right now, but he's got the most offensive upside of those middle infielders in Charlotte.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ May 9, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Send down Beckham, bringup Hudson, send Freddy to the bullpen. When Becks comes back, say farewell to Randy Williams. The Sox really don't need 13 pitchers. The offense is terrible. You bring up another hitter just to hope they can catch fire for a month and help win a game or two.
  11. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ May 9, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) I just love Matt Thornton. When he enters the game I feel relief and comfort. So he's like Rolaids. Or Bengay. Or Preparation H. Or sex.
  12. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ May 9, 2010 -> 04:03 AM) Nope, I will take 3 years of a proven winner (Albeit nothing yet in the playoffs) over 4 pitchers that have not proved anything yet. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 9, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) I love watching CR pitcher, and I’m rooting for him to succeed, but I have no regrets that KW traded his ass the minute he got word that Peavy could be had again. The only thing I miss about Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda is the acronym that their names formed. That thing gave me an awesome signature for, like, three months. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ May 9, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) absolutely not. he's jake peavy, let's not lose sight of that fact. All of this tells me it's a good deal. Whether the Sox win or not is irrelevant at this point in time. The package the Sox gave up for Jake Peavy is by absolutely no means impressive, and most of those guys would be afterthoughts in other organizations.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 9, 2010 -> 03:26 AM) why is that, wite? Well the reason it's a good sign is because if gay guys are checking you out, it usually means you are atleast semi in vogue and you are generally good looking.
  14. QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 9, 2010 -> 12:19 AM) Woah woah woah. Let's let him have more than 2 good starts before we say its a good deal. Especially meaningful starts and not when you are 7.5 games back. It's a lot easier to pitch when you are pretty much out of it. It is good that he's put two dominant starts together. Let's hope we can get him back to a place where he can show us what he's got when it counts. The Padres are offering Clayton Richard, Aaron Poreda, Dexter Carter, and Adam Russell for Jake Peavy. Do you make the move?
  15. QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 8, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) Yea, I can agree with that. So I guess there is just no blame for anyone but the players. We were just destined to be terrible this year. Still, it's going to take awhile to fix. Atleast you aren't on the edge and you've fully jumped off the cliff. Good for you.

    i am drunk

QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 9, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) So, I don't try to seem like a mooch but people just keep buying me beer. I can't remember the last time that I went out that didn't involve someone buying me a beer. Also, three guys checked me out for some reason tonight? Must be my new, Bieber haircut. One fine ass girl was into it too. dudes checking you out is seriously a great sign
  17. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 8, 2010 -> 02:53 PM) I just don't see Kenny taking a chance on Adrian Gonzalez and his upcoming pricetag, not with 22k attendance at home games. Trading Konerko to Boston for 1B Lars Anderson and someone like OF Ryan Kalish or C Luis Exposito would seem to make sense for both sides. I think you have to hold AJ for a few weeks longer to let some of his value return. However, I'm all for seeing what Lucy and Flowers can do the rest of the way. The Red Sox still have Ortiz and Lowell. And if they were going to trade for Konerko, why wouldn't they just trade for Adrian Gonzalez?
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 8, 2010 -> 01:17 AM) Jaime Moyer is insane. Oldest pitcher to throw a complete game shutout. (47 years old!) He also currently has like a 34 inning scoreless streak going. (dunno if that is against the Braves or in general, but still impressive) In this era for a STARTING pitcher, that really is amazing. I have no idea where you get the 34 inning scoreless streak from. He allowed 2 unearned runs in his last start against Atlanta, and in his last appearance against Atlanta last year, he gave up an ER in 4.1 IP. But yeah, Jamie Moyer is pretty incredible. He's obviously over the hill, but he's still a solid back of the rotation starter. He could probably pitch until he was 50 if he wanted.
  19. In this case, paying for a prostitute would be mens rea, but statutory rape would not be, correct?
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) It has been proven by numerous studies that the peak offensively and defensively (with artificial enhancements) for every MLB player should be between 27-30 years old. Yes, just because you're young (see Josh Fields, Chris Getz or Mark Teahen) doesn't make you good at anything in particular. But there's NO WAY that Omar Vizquel hasn't lost something defensively if you go back and compare his range and athleticism (not to mention arm strength) to the year 2000 tape. And there are also numbers that indicate that Vizquel is still just fine defensively. Sure, Vizquel has lost something, but when you were the very best, falling off can (and in this case, has proven) to mean you are just very good defensively.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) Miguel Cabrera (KW should have gone after him, this was his last/bench chance coming off the alcohol problems) continues to just rake. The Tigers were never going to move Miguel Cabrera, and they were assuredly never going to move him within the division.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 6, 2010 -> 11:58 PM) Man the Rays need to stop. Another 8-0 waxing and 3-game sweep of the Mariners. They're now 12-1 on the road. 21-7 overall. They've outscored their opponents by a staggering 83 runs. That's insane for early May. And they're doing all of it with Carlos Pena hitting a cool .204 and BJ Upton being mediocre again. That team is f***ing insane.
  23. Bills after Jared Gaither. If they made that move, I'd consider the possibility that they might actually want to put a semi-competitive football team on the field. Then I remember their QBs are Edwards, Fitzpatrick, Brohm, and Brown. Oh bother.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ May 6, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) They didn't get swept by Philly and not comparing the Phillies and Pirates. WOuld of been nice if they could of picked up another game or two. It's not going to matter at the end of the year when the Cards win the division by 10+ games. There is no one in that division who can compete with them barring an injury to Pujols or Holliday.
