  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 07:39 AM) Man, I remember when 1/2 this site wanted to trade for him. /insert joke about Williams always getting his guy
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) I fully expect you to get s*** faced I don't really want to though. Just not really in the state of mind where getting s***faced right now would be a good thing.
  3. QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) It couldn't be more the answer. Doesn't actually have to be getting laid, but at least haning out with a new girl. Wite I know that probably doesn't feel like the thing to do with everything you're going through but trust me. Don't do any of that note stuff and just remove her number so it's less easy for you to drunk dial. Close this chapter and open a new one, you will start feeling much better Just removed her from my contact list. When it feels safe, I'll probably put it back in, but it was really weird just seeing numbers rather than her name. I think I'm gonna go out tonight too. Maybe not get s***faced, but go out and have a few drinks and hang out. I'm not going to plan on it, but it would be pretty cool to be at the same place as her tonight with a different girl.
  4. Thanks guys, means a lot. And I mentioned the first love because I have heard losing the first love is the hardest, and this verified it. It's actually kind of funny, because for some reason I was anticipating something like this and bought her a singing card yesterday that sings "You're my best friend" by Queen. I just wrote a note that basically said that no matter what happened, I wanted to remain good friends with her. I definitely have to keep the drunk dialing to a minimum, that has gotten me in trouble before.
  5. Ha I wish. The relationship I've been in with a girl for just under 2 years has essentially come to an end. It's been hot and cold for about the past 6 months, but we've never really fought. It was mainly a matter of me being a huge POS for pretty much the entirety of the 2009 calendar year while she was actually being productive and becoming a legitimate member of society. So I had a bit of a revelation that I needed to step up and make changes, and thus far it's been great for 2010 - joined two very good business oriented organizations on campus, I'm looking for a job, and scouting out some internships. She told me last night that she wants to pursue another guy before she takes off to see if anything can bloom and the only reason she's really been hanging out with me is because she does still have feelings, but she wants to see me get on my feet more than anything, and she didn't want to hurt me. I told her that you have to hurt people as it's an inevitability in life, and I gave her the go ahead to try and get with this other guy. I don't know if he has feelings like that for her, but he may. Needless to say, I hope he doesn't, but it's out of my hands now. First true love too. Ouchers.
  6. and my heart is, as of right now, officially broken
  7. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 29, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) Didn't they just sign Rich Hill as their 5th starter? I don't think we know that they are just going to start him. They did sign him, yes.
  8. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) The White Sox signed Brady Clark...yeah, I don't get it either. Like the Brady Clark that had like 2 good years like 5-6 years ago?
  9. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 11:01 PM) Something that needed to be done for a long time now. We'll need to see some results down the line though... The first thing we'd see is some signings, but we won't see anything on the major league field for probably 5-8 years.
  10. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 07:45 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/baseball...ge=jeterramirez That's fantasy. Karabell was talking about homers and RBI and SB and runs and whatever else. He wasn't actually talking about Alexei Ramirez being better than Derek Jeter.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) Does that mean they move there outstanding Dh who is a butcher in the field into the field so that Thome DH's? I don't buy it. Delmon Young is a butcher in the field too. Is the small downgrade from Young to Kubel in LF (bad to very bad) worth the huge upgrade from Young to Thome against RHP (bad to good)? I would say yes.
  12. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) I'm not sure how you're defning valuable but a stats guy would argue that Vazquez was the better pitcher overall last year: 2.77 FIP to Wainwrights 3.11 2.82 xFIP to 3.36 3.62 tRA* to 3.82 6.6 WAR to 5.7 Perhaps you consider those stats "domination" stats, which would b a fair point to make. But then it gets down to preventing a player from winning the CY Young just because his team couldn't field, which some might say is unfair. I was mainly just using his raw ERA over the amount of innings. I'm not discounting Vazquez at all, and he was fantastic last season.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 28, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) I thought he would in LA and Arizona too. Heck, LAA as well. It just hasnt happened 4.01 ERA in 204 innings last year. I'd say that's pretty good.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 08:55 PM) Interesting. Then it would make sense to have Kubel in the OF & Thome as DH vs. RHP, then Young in OF vs. lefties. Although, I wouldnt expect a team like the Twins that counts on playing such fundamental baeball all the time to play a butcher in the OF like Kubel for over 100 games. Delmon Young is garbage defensively. -25.6 UZR/150 in 2008, -14.9 in 2009. He's overall better than Kubel (-18.7 over 275 games in the outfield in his career), but it's not worth sitting Kubel.
  15. Considering Law is a stats guy, it makes a hell of a lot of sense why he voted Vazquez over Wainwright. Better K/9, better BB/9, better H/9, and then obviously a better WHIP too. Wainwright was overall more valuable, but there is a definite argument that Javy Vazquez was a more dominant pitcher than Wainwright last season.
  16. Mike f***ing Trout? Really? I mean, dude's prospect, for sure, but he's played 5 games above rookie ball. It's an obvious fluff piece.
  17. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 09:04 PM) MLB Network had a Top 50 Prospects of 2010 special tonight. Zero White Sox prospects made the cut. Not Flowers, not Mitchell, not even Hudson. The Royals, Rangers, and Rays led the way with four each. I don't care. It's cool to see your favorite team talked about on these sports shows in any sport, but in the end it doesn't mean a hell of a lot.
  18. Young vs RHP 2009 .271/.301/.383 Young vs LHP 2009 .310.321/.512
  19. He also said one of Josh Fields' strengths was hitting the fastball. That one gets thrown around here quite a bit.
  20. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) i was doing a little reading about him to see what the hype is. so basically he projects as edgar renteria, with a little better defense QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) I don't get it either. But then again I didn't get the Elvis Andrus hype, and then he goes and has a 3 WAR season as a 20 year old rookie. I went on a little rant about him in the Cubs thread. If he really is that good defensively, then there is some credit to it, but I'd like to see that defense first.
  21. I guess we'll see, but I think Thome's going to play a significant amount of the time in Minnesota.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) He said Viciedo is not a prospect whilst ranking the Cubs 7th because of one 19 year old. Hilarious. I don't understand how Viciedo is a non-prospect either. He was a 19 or 20 year old kid in AA getting his first taste of American baseball playing in a pitcher's paradise in a good pitcher's league. And I seem to recall that he improved in the second half of the season too, though I can't get his second half numbers up right now. Viciedo is a real prospect, though this is a big year for him.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Since Kubel is going to play about 100 games at DH, where are the other 38 games that Thome will play there? Spring Training? What reason do you have to believe that Kubel is going get that much play at DH? Yeah, he played there last year, because the Twins didn't have a hitter of Thome's caliber on the bench and the other two outfielders aside from Cuddyer and Span were Gomez (who plays a phenomenal CF) and Delmon Young, who the Twins have tried to get to produce but have failed. Delmon Young appears to be the backup to me at this point with Kubel being the primary LF and Thome being the primary DH. Thome will take a backseat with a lefty on the mound and when Mauer needs a day off from catching.
  24. QUOTE (since56 @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) I agree with your analysis. So the Sox were simply not going to sign him. They were not going to give him full time DH duties and they don't believe he could be effective with limited plate appearences. It seemed as though publicly they were offering him the chance to come back if he accepted the limited role. Since they were not going to sign him why not just say we are not interested period? I don't think Ozzie ever really consider the option of having Thome all offseason because he assumed he would sign elsewhere. When given the option of having Thome back at like $1-2 mill a year to be a dangerous bat for the Sox and take playing time away from someone like Mark Kotsay, Ozzie chose to go with Kotsay over Thome because he would have to give too many bats to Thome, which would take away from his ability to use everyone and anyone at the DH position, and when it boiled down to that, he declined. It isn't because they think Thome's a bad player, it's simply because he's not good enough to overturn the direction the White Sox are going with their rotating DH. I disagree with their decision, but I'm sitting behind a computer while Ozzie gets to put on a uniform and make decisions for the team on the field while Williams gets to put on a suit and tie and call other GMs and make trades and sign people, so there's not much I can do about it. I imagine if the Nationals offered Adam Dunn plus $$$ for CJ Retherford right now, the Sox would take it and Kotsay would sit on his ass quite a bit throughout the entirety of the season.
