  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) Not all back injuries are the same. No one's been able to keep Crede's back healthy, for example. That's true, but part of Crede's value was also playing the field, and the way he plays 3B puts a tremendous amount of strain on his back. If Crede were a full time DH or played mostly DH, I would guess that he could remain relatively healthy.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) Its a pretty small issue really, who goes 1 versus 2. But the closer to the top you are, the more likely you are to get more starts in on the season. Therefore, it only makes sense to go with Peavy, both for getting him potentially an extra start, and also potentially for MB to have one less. If the Sox went with a straight 5-man rotation with no one getting skipped, and assuming Buehrle and Peavy are 1 and 2, both would make 33 starts, while Danks, Floyd, and Garcia would get 32, and thus really doesn't mean as much. What I do think you'll see happen this year is Buehrle (and others too) occasionally getting skipped and having Garcia or Hudson starting in their place.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) But wait, he wouldnt be facing Tiger pitching. I never really got that stat, yes some ballparks make a difference but so does the quality of the pitching your facing. I understand the use of it when you compare your home ballpark to away games. It's about sample size too. He put up an OPS of less than .600 there last year, but it was in a limited sample size. Less than 200 plate appearances doesn't dictate how well a player is actually going to play there, and thus really makes Boras look dumber rather than smarter, and Dombrowski and company know that.
  4. QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) Well despite his monster first half HR total if he was injured 2nd half then we dont want an injured player anyway. He was injured implies exactly that, he was injured. It doesn't mean he is still injured. And if the Sox can keep Thome's back healthy, they would likely be able to put Branyan on a similar regimen, which would keep him relatively healthy.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 2, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) I wonder why they beg the Tigers... It would take away a lot of his power. Well duh, he'd hit .360 there so it wouldn't matter
  6. QUOTE (T R U @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) maybe I just play too much CoD? I don't think that was ever in question.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) And the fact that you'd have to make Quentin a DH or try and trade Rios. But I'd enjoy an OF of Mitchell-D2-Rios with Q at DH. I would say the odds of ever seeing an outfield of Mitchell-Danks-Rios is slim to none.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) Agreed. And there's more on the way in Desmond Jennings. The Rangers and Orioles are two other teams I will look forward to seeing. I want to have a hot/sweaty 3-some with Neftali Feliz and Adam Jones. didn't need that visual
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Wite, just find out what the business is before V-day. If it turns out there's nothing there, get the booz ready. There ain't nothin' like getting your heart stomped on right before V-day. Believe me, I know. Drink, drink, drink and drink some more on V-day. Throw in some pot if you need to. That's a part of the plan too. If she wants to have a serious relationship, we can do cutesy s*** on Valentine's Day, and if she doesn't, I'm gonna have some fun.
  10. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) Wite, I don't get this. You said you originally broke up because you were being a dick, but it looks like she wanted this guy she had a crush on and wanted to let you go over that. Why did she actually say that you guys were done the first time? Was it about her crush? Or was it about her issues with you. If the dude she's crushing on didn't come up then, that means that she's toying around with you, IMO. If that's the case, your relationship will probably end and not that well. The question is do you want the bandaid ripped off slowly or quickly? Quickly hurts less, but its a lot harder to just "do it and get it over with." I said a pretty terrible thing, and on top of everything from the second half of 2009 (being lazy, not being active, not doing homework, partying too much), she was ready to call it quits. I've since heard she liked the other guy, told her to pursue him, and she has yet to do so and has instead been hanging out with me, hence why I feel as though I've sort of won her back. So to answer the question, she gave up on it because of the issues with me and not because of the dude. Either tomorrow night or Wednesday at some point, I'm going to ask her if it's a simple crush (and I think it's safe to say that everyone has had a simple crush on another person at some point when they were in a relationship but never explored it...I know I have on a couple different girls but I never really even thought of exploring them) or if she actually does want to pursue him. I think the answer is going to be the former, so I'm really not worried about it. The question I don't really know the answer to is if she actually wants to be in a relationship again or if this is just convenient for her with no intentions of anything really happening beyond the next 4 months or so. I don't really know the answer to that.
  11. I wouldn't say useless; I'd say their values are limited. I can tell you that I would much rather have one of them in an H2H league than some closer who is putting up a 4.50+ ERA but is getting saves. I'll concede the saves and improve the team ERA, K's, WHIP, and BB within reason.
  12. QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) Me neither its obvious his first half of 09 was a huge fluke. hmm, funny you'd say that considering in his previous 1052 plate appearances, he put up an .839 OPS with sporadic playing time. Maybe it was getting the opportunity to start that provided the big offensive numbers and the injury caused his numbers to dip in the second half. That's what it looks like to me.
  13. Yep, it was Johnny Damon who made the Red Sox and Yankees winners. Scott Boras is f***ing delusional.
  14. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) I wonder if Tavares is coming now that that A's have cut him. If anything, the A's cutting Tavares limits their money. They acquired Taveras and his $4 mill salary and are on the hook for the entire thing. Unless they find someone willing to pay that, they are SOL. In the meantime, even if they weren't for whatever reason stuck with that number, they just signed Gabe Gross today too. Their top 4 outfielders are currently Rajai Davis, Coco Crisp, Ryan Sweeney, and Gabe Gross, and they still have Travis Buck and Jack Cust too. Johnny Damon isn't going to end up in Oakland.
  15. Considering the other QBs Martz has had to use during his past couple stops - Jon Kitna/whoever, Alex Smith/JT O'Sullivan/Shaun Hill - I'd say that having a QB of Cutler's talent will make his job quite a bit easier.
  16. Buster Olney saying the deal isn't done yet. Considering WCCO is a Minnesota sports network, and Buster Olney is a national journalist, I am going to trust WCCO on this one and say it is done.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Hudson supposedly has a standing offer from the Nats and many of their players are openly courting him. The Indians are said to have absolutely no money, and are planning on rebuilding, so I don't know what the allure would be for Hudson there. I'm really drawing a blank on who the mystery team could be... It seems to me that Shapiro really likes trading players for prospects at the deadline when the team is non-competitive. It could be his goal to bring in Hudson to bring a little bit of excitement to the club and then deal him at the deadline for a prospect or two.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) I thought Garland wouldve been great for the Mariners, someone who you can count on putting in alot of innings (even if they are very mediocre) just to have some stability behind the big 2. His landing with the Padres should help him though in that huge ballpark. It's also very possible that their plan is to just go in with Snell, Rowland-Smith, and Fister in the rotation. Not that I agree with it, but it's a definite possibility, and it has the potential to still be a pretty damn good rotation.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) If the rotations 1-5 hold up for the first 4 series of the season Peavy will Take on Cleveland's #1 on Opening Day, Minnesota's #2 on the 11th and Cleveland's #5 on the 16th. That's even without rainouts, injuries and juggled rotations just going by off days. And I imagine that is going strictly based off of using the best rested starter. Some teams don't do that and go with a straight 1-5, no matter what.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) Sign Mark Mulder and an innings eater of a #4, and i'll be about ready to concede them the division. Obviously Lee and Felix is a dynamite 1-2, and then they can mix and match Snell, Rowland-Smith, Fister, and a couple others into putting together a respectable rotation. One more starter would be really nice for them. I've also really only seen Mulder connected to the Brewers this offseason, so I have to imagine he ends up there.
  21. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) Completely agree with you, love that guy -- also a great guy, but according to Hot Stove, the Indians are going to sign him. Would have been more interesting to sign him, keep Beckham at 3B and not have done the trade for MT, but... Rotoworld says he's close to a deal with the Nationals, which leads me to believe there are people leaking rumors all over the place. Hudson would allow for interesting match up possibilities, but I'd still prefer the last guy on the bench to be a power hitter. Hell, I'd take Hank Blalock right now and I've been opposed to adding him all offseason. Just sign someone with a bit of pop in their bat.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 08:06 AM) Freeney supposedly has a torn ankle ligament (although the Colts haven't confirmed it yet). May not be playing or may not be nearly 100%. It was confirmed today that he does have a torn ligament.
  23. oh, and Ryan F. Garko signed with the Mariners, 1 year, $550k. Kotchman/Garko at 1B? That's pretty damn solid.
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) Since your first pitcher will then most often be matched up against other teams first pitchers, aka, their ACES. That's probably when and why this ridiculous practice started. With off-days and rainouts, this is rarely the case, even come late April.
